Cheers for the great video. Children more than 5 years of age can be prone to both typical and atypicals, so do we cover them for both using amoxicillin and azithromycin ?

Amoxicillin and azithromycin are not used together. They have similar spectra of action as far as pneumonia is concerned. I like azithromycin, personally, because the course can be completed in 5 days. I use it as my go-to for outpatient CAP treatment.. it will cover both walking pneumonia (M. pneumoniae) and typical pneumonia. I'm not a pediatrician, but I do know that some of them prefer to give amoxicillin for the really young kids with CAP. However, technically you can use azithromycin in children starting at 6 months.

On the Diagnosis slide (13:40), pathognomonic is misspelled as 'pathopneumonic' :) Nice unintentional pun, there :) On the Management slide (20:12), there is a typo. 'Reqwuires' instead of requires :)

Hi, where did you get the stats that 30% of viral pneumonia coexit with bac infection? Also, do viral pneumonia results in an parapneumonic effusion as well? Thanks
