I have had a dodgy key for ages and I finally got round to trying to find a KZfaq with a good tutorial and woo hoo. My key now flips up 😀

Just had a search and found your video - I have a mokka fob where the spring is staring to go. This video was clear for a novice like me to follow so may now by the replacement fob as the key and circuit board are okay - thanks for this Bill

Hi. Can you please let me know what type of screw i need to hold the keys fob together (its very small but unsure where to get it) as never came with the replacement keyfob. Thanks in advance

Hi, thanks for the video, but I have a question. after assembling the new cover is it necessary to reprogram the key or does it not lose its memory?
@pyroshnid Жыл бұрын
Hi there is no need to reprogram the key, just transfer the circuit board to the new key and put the battery back in straight away

I saw another video for a Hyundai key and they said something about a chip having to be cut out otherwise the car won’t start. No such issues with insignias then?
@pyroshnid4 жыл бұрын
Everything is on the circuit board so when you swap it over to the new case it works fine.

Well, very amusing, the old key had to be cut in several places to finally remove the circuit board - probably easy when the key is not very old - the re-tensing the spring was not realistic on the videos since it was not done with the key in - still better than nothing
@pyroshnid4 жыл бұрын
You should not have to cut anything as the two halves of the key are not glued. I didn't do it this way but It may be easier to tension the mechanism first and put the key back together as in the video and then refit the key and the locking pin.
@repager4 жыл бұрын
I guess you are not aware of the vagaries of injection moulded components - even without glue it is quite possible for the parts to become firmly locked - - I was tempted to subject the key to heat to soften the grip about 30 C would probably have been safe
@pyroshnid4 жыл бұрын
@@repager My key came apart relatively easy using the c clip pliers but I suppose if you have to cut it, that doesn't really matter as you are replacing it anyway. Maybe a little heat might help as long as it wasn't too hot and damage the circuit board.
@pedroshanly24422 жыл бұрын
Very hard to open must be glued
@pyroshnid2 жыл бұрын
They are normally just a push fit unless it has been opened before and someone decide to glue it. The pliers work well because it pushes it apart, it can be done with a screw driver or blunt knife but you risk marking the edge of the plastic

Cant get my bloody key apart, even with circlip pliers
@pyroshnid4 жыл бұрын
It may have been looked at in the past and glued back together, if you are replacing the key shell like I did then it doesn't matter so much if you damage it getting it open. If you are putting a screwdriver in to help open it, be careful you don't go in far as you may damage the circuit board inside.
@billysaunders5444 жыл бұрын
@@pyroshnid I got into the key in the end after cutting my hand a few times when the screwdriver slipped, but the 3 pronged spindle didn't match the original key so I'll just get a new key cut, I was hoping to use the old key in the new fob, if that makes sense as the fob was broken on the original key not the key itself
@pyroshnid4 жыл бұрын
@@billysaunders544 The only thing you should need to transfer to the new key fob is the key itself and the circuit board. The key should slot into the new fob mechanism and lock in with the split pin.
@billysaunders5444 жыл бұрын
@@pyroshnid the pin that holds the key into the fob doesn't fit my original key, the three prongs align differently
@pyroshnid4 жыл бұрын
@@billysaunders544 you do not need the three pronged part from the original fob, transfer the key part only into the new fob by tapping out the retaining pin to release it from the original fob
