Pythagorean home amidst olive grove offers views & protection

Asked by an Athens couple to design a home embedded in their olive grove, architect Tilemachos Andrianopoulos used geometry to respect the trees, provide protection from wind and sun, and open up the residence to the mountain views.
In Alice in Wonderland fashion, the home begins small at a tip of a triangle where the walls are low. The walls grow and stretch as the home progresses uphill funneling views toward the Gerania mountains.
On two sides of the triangle the only openings are slits which let in protected light and views (all other windows open out onto one of two interior courtyards. At the mountain-side of the home, the wall is nearly double the size of the smaller end, and the glass can be completely opened to let the olive trees in.
In symbiosis with the local ecosystem, the home is covered in a living roof, adjusted to the Greek climatic conditions, in particular those of Attica with lavender, helichrysum, auras, drosanthemum and thyme. Inside the courtyards there is no grass, but all local plantings and walkways of rammed earth.

And the swimming pool and I do not think the curtains are necessary for this architecture, other than the feeling of movement when they might like this as a balance with the stillness of the isolated area. I would definitely have open a nice view in the guest room, as you only have the mini garden there, no view of the open landscape there. Yes, the gym is a good idea too, with a sauna and a jacuzzi. Other than that the architecture is intentionally created to contemporary vision, I love it.

@@magatism Olive groves are usually created by man to serve man, so I see no conflict with what this house is doing. Also no, the Nazis actually hated this type of architecture (they preferred classical Greek and Roman, European). You're thinking of the Soviets. Imo this was out of place for them too, as they tended to focus on BIG imposing modernist architecture, not small, unique, fit into nature architecture.

Here is a master architect. Every detail is part of the plan, fits together, complements the other, fills a purpose. The house is a symbiosis of the couple’s desires (and obviously generous budget), the land, the elements. The stream of water, the pool- was the climax of the design. Architects of lesser mettle, take note and learn from this master!

Is “Pythagorean” just a fancier way of saying triangle now? I didn’t see any right angles, and I’m pretty sure that’s a necessity when using the Pythagorean Theorem. It’s a truly beautiful home, but if I’m ever able to use my high school trig knowledge somewhere, it might as well be on KZfaq.

@Jigov I'm pretty sure we make triangle shaped-roofs because it's wayeasier to do that with two straight pieces of wood than to make any other shape. We just ascribe symbolism to it after the fact to make things sound more important or interesting. In the end, it is just physics, not metaphysics.

@Jigov I have knowledge of it, I just dismissed it, like a normal person would. What other shape could you make a roof, besides just flat?
@Munkybhai

@Jigov when did the Holy Trinity emerge as formal church doctrine or even as an informal idea? I'll give you a hint, though, people were using triangle shaped roofs for ages before that across the ancient world. History did not begin on 1 AD. Anyway, been interesting reading your POV.

@debracisneroshhp2827

@@Danuxsy It's a sort of optical illusion effect. A small sq. meter footprint with the 'apperance' of more distance between the front and back of the property. Think back to art class when you learned about depth of field and drawing with the intention of making a point on the paper look like it was in the distance from your vantage point. Hope I was able to clarify the concept. 😺
