or if you are already in Taiwan, you can look for little red notices on walls, I think that is still a "thing" too.

It took me 17 years to return to Taiwan in 2010 (after three years at the MTC in Taipei in the early 1990's) we have also been back for two to three week visits in 2014, and 2018, but next time we go we have to try ALISHAN, still I have not been to Alishan for the sunrise. I did find that in about three weeks as a vacation we could come close to seeing as much as in three years of living there. Great People, and a Great Place! *but arriving from the RGV part of Texas meant summers were pretty much the same for heat and humidity. Enjoy your time friends and food!

All this is all well and good. And I will admit here and now. There are things about Taiwan that are just awesome. If I myself still had the patience to teach English, and the qualifications. I'd be in Taiwan. In fact I would have never gone to China when I did. Had I possessed the right qualifications to teach in Taiwan, I would have been there around 2006 or so. I'm glad that you're having a great time there. There are however some things about this part of the world that most people won't tell you if you are going to Taiwan or any other asian country for your first time. Certain things do vary from asian country to asian country. But I'm just going to say what needs to be said. I won't say don't ever go to Asia and this isn't out of personal ego either. I am just saying don't go to Asia without knowing what I'm about to tell you. Taiwan has it's downsides. All of Asia does. I wish the following was not true. No matter how long you stay there. You will never truly belong. No matter how well you learn the language and culture, no matter how well you assimilate. You can live there for 55 years and most people will see you no different than as if you arrived yesterday. Most people keep you at arm's length. They don't want you as their next door neighbour over the next 25+ years. The discrimination kinda goes like this. You get into a legal battle with a local person. You will lose no matter how right you are legally. You get into a physical confrontation, other locals will drop what they are doing and swarm you. There are some great people there and you will likely have a great time. Don't get me wrong. But in the face of discrimination, there is no "Foreign Lives Matter" type thing that will fight for you. Media bias. If a foreigner does something remotely wrong. It makes news everywhere. If a foreigner, for example Kyle MacDonald (originally from Calgary) when he was assaulted by three Taiwanese men. The police covered it up. And the media silent. No justice. Kyle never did fully recover from his injuries. Sorry for sounding negative. But this is a disclaimer for anyone who hasn't been tho this part of the world. Do come. And have fun. But just be aware of stuff like this. That's all.

Hi StrawBanni, I've been watching your channel for a while and I had been considering a move to Taiwan (and then found your channel!). I have a few questions could you please tell me what the average monthly gym membership prices are and access to running tracks? I have heard The University of Taipei has a decent set up for people serious about sport and training. Also I seem to remember you had a degree in Marketing? and you use a Apple Mac to produce your videos? Do you use a Apple movie maker program? Also can you do website design? Apologies if the last few questions were boring!

hey! i was looking into scholarships to study and get a bachelor's degree in Taiwan for example MOFA and ICDF and I was wondering...do you think it's ok if I go next year as an 18 year old (turning 18 in April) or maybe stay here and study in my own country and go maybe to do a masters degree or something of the sort in 4 or 5 years (i think I'll be 23 or 24 by that time)

You're so brave! I wish I have the courage to travel alone and live independently. Have you tried using a duffle bag for your travel? I recommend using the Bento Bag from Nomad Lane. I've been using this bag for months now and it is such a hack. It has a trolley sleeve feature and it fits under the seat too! makes your travel more convenient and effortless and it packs like a suitcase too!
