I'm with Daryl! I grew up eating cereal morning, noon, and evening. Cereal is a main dish and a dessert. Cereal is perfect to snack on when you get home from school, when you get home from evening church services, and when you don't feel like actually cooking. 🙋🙋🙋🙆🙆🙆

Me and my husband were 19 when we got married too...just celebrated 14 years yesterday with no regrets! Many thanks to your husband for volunteering...our house burned down and believe it or not some volunteers did not show that were only 2 minutes away. I am sure each family appreciates his time to show up and help. And I too hate being away from husband when he is home! Just starting to watch your videos!

I also have never understood the getting married so young question. I got married at 18 and my husband was 2 months from 22. We’ve been married 11 years now. Are there things we had to learn because we were so young, yup. Do I regret it, nope. We just learned them together. Yes I’m a different person at 30 than I was at 18 and so is he. But I would be a different person today if I got married at 25. And I’ll be a different person every year I grow. It’s just how it works! Learn to grow together and allow for an abundance of forgiveness and compassion on both sides.

For another perspective, I got married at 21 and I do regret marrying so young. Deep down, I didn't really feel ready to make the biggest and most impactful decision of my life at such a tender age. I had not dated much and had little life experience, so I wasn't sure that my then-fiancé was truly a compatible life partner. I also wasn't fully developed as an adult person, and didn't have the reasoning skills to critically think through the ramifications of my decision. Critical thinking skills are typically not fully developed until approximately age 25. I remember having to think through serious issues like mental health concerns, debt, matters of faith, etc. as they pertained to my relationship, and just didn't feel equipped to make a wise and informed decision. I ultimately got married because my faith community puts a lot of pressure on young people to marry. And the first few years were really tough for me. It wasn't that I had a bad partner; it was simply that I was too young and inexperienced. Once I matured a bit, my marriage improved drastically. We have now been married ten years, are expecting our first child (after getting married too young I wasn't about to enter parenthood until I felt good and ready), and are very happy. I do look fondly on our first ten years of marriage, minus the first couple of years or so. We've built a beautiful life together, but it was hard-won, and it's crystal clear to both of us in hindsight that it didn't have to be so difficult. If I could do it again, I would have waited until after I had graduated from grad school and started my first job. I'm not one to judge another's personal decisions, but I know that it was a mistake for me, and that my experience is not unique.

@@jennaom1 but that is a different issue than age. That sounds more like maturity. Different people have different maturity at different ages. And yes, dating also has something to do with it. I had dated, and I knew exactly what I didn’t want. I also wasn’t afraid to be up front and honest about my needs and wants. At 17, on our first hangout I told my husband that I wasn’t playing around. I don’t date just to fool around, it is with the intention to find a partner to marry. Not today, may not even be you, but the intention is for marriage. I told him I expect him to come to church with me any time he’s not working. I’m not comfortable with porn, strip clubs or having sex before marriage. I wouldn’t be moving in with him before we got married either. Marriage is forever, so if your unhappy or feeling bored talk to me. I’m not a mind reader but I’m sure we can come to a place of mutual understanding. I also told him if any of this sounds like you can’t handle or not what you want then let me know. I’m ok not continuing a relationship because this isn’t what you want. I’m not ok with it 10 years down the road. And I don’t mean to make it sound like it’s a fairy tale life. We have definitely had our problems. Big ones. At one point we were separated. But we always have open communication. We always have an end goal to reunite stronger. We always do the hard work to build up the relationship. And that can’t just be done by one person. You both have to put in the work. I have found that in most divorces one person was willing to do the work to build up the relationship and the other person is not. But again, not an age thing. I’ve known people who got married at 25,28, even one at 32 who are now divorced and regret those marriages. Age was not the issue.
@jennaom1
@jennaom1 3 жыл бұрын
@@DeconstructionBarbie91 I’m so glad you were mature enough at 17 to be so rational. Undoubtedly some people are ready for marriage at young ages, and that’s great. I honestly can’t say I know many 17 (or 21-year olds) who are. I agree that my issue was a maturity issue, but maturity and age are correlated. Social science research consistently finds that marriages that occur at young ages are more likely to end in divorce. And the older you are at first marriage, the less likely you are to get divorced. These are of course just statistics, so divorces still occur in those married in all age groups. I know my experience is not unique because I’ve talked to dozens of people whose experience was similar to mine. In my faith community (which appears to have morals identical to yours), we are told that any two people who are committed to God and each other can have a happy and successful marriage. So people pair off quite quickly and marry quickly when their relationships are still in the infatuation phase. They truly believe they are doing what’s right. But a few years down the road, they often find themselves ill-equipped to handle the challenges of life together. It’s a common story. And all this occurs despite the fact that we start being “prepared” for marriage as soon as we enter our teens. I also know many, many folks who got married later than what is considered ideal in our community, but in hindsight are happy they had additional time to live and develop as single people, date around more, and really find their identity before committing to marriage. Again, individual mileage undoubtedly varies here. I also know many people who got married young and are supremely happy. As for me, I will advise my children to wait a few years. But to each their own.

Omg!! What a cute couple y’all are🥰...I can see how in love you both are!! It reminds me of when I first got married and when you have married the right person then after 25 years of marriage like myself ...your love only grows deeper after having gone thru the ups and downs of this life your love grows even more meaningful when you look back and see how you weathered the storms of life together🥰...not every marriage survives that .. I am so fortunate that even though the hardships this life became increasingly more difficult ...having a husband who worked 70 plus hours as a physician ...I worked as a Nurse Educator until our 2nd child and felt we felt the need to have at least one parent at home and the Hubs made more money than I did 😂😂so I stayed home with the kids ...then I developed a dibilatating autoimmune disease...at the age of 2 we found out our son was on the Autism Spectrum and later our daughter and son were both dx’d with ADHD...most marriages 90% end In divorce with just 1 child that has a disability and both our kids were premature...had speech and language delays and fine and gross motor skill delays ...AND I had a disability 😱😱😱😱how we made it thru is a testament to God’s strength and Grace and a testament of our love and support and respect of one another ....those were the hardest years of our lives and we MADE IT🥰🙏🙏...our kids are 22 and 23 now BOTH VERY gifted intellectually ...they never gave us any trouble as teenagers ...our daughter has made the Chanchellors list with straight 4.0’s every semester and will be working on her Doctrate in Nurse Practitioning and our son is just as intelligent and he too is in the medical field...They both have stayed in church and would give the shirts off their backs to anyone in need...As a parent one couldn’t ask for any more than that ...It has made all those years of struggle and years of therapy our kids had to attend ALL worth it and then some ....I don’t know why I felt impelled to share this with you but to say to enjoy the nuances of early marriage and young love because sometimes life throws us curve balls and gets hard ...just remember everything happens for a reason and remember to stay committed to God, love without condition, forgive easily and stay working as a team and in the end your love will stand the test of time like ours has❤️. Thanks for taking me down memory lane to when I was newly married🥰🙏🙏...oh and when our kids graduated from high school...they thanked their dad for working so hard so that we could afford all the therapies they needed when they were young AND afford for me to stay home with them (they said they needed that) ...then they thanked me for putting my career on hold so I could stay home with them 😱😱😱are they just not the best kids or what ??? What a blessing ...so WORTH IT🥰🙏🙏

Wedding bands are a Protestant tradition, some Mennonites do wear a wedding band though.

Sounds more like your husband speaks German (Deutsch). I was born and raised in the Netherlands and speak Dutch. The sentence your husband said was in German.

Pennsylvania Dutch is a German dialect spoken by the descendants of anabaptist immigrants to North America during colonial times. A significant proportion of Americans are descended from these immigrants, who collectively are also called the Pennsylvania Dutch. The language is still spoken in some old order Amish/Mennonite communities. You are correct that "Dutch" in this case is a mutation of the original "Deutsch." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania_Dutch en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania_German_language

@@lovelylife4506 You're welcome! North America is funky that way, with several pockets of languages and cultures left over from colonialism and immigration.
