This week on 'Has It Aged Well?' we are discussing one of the most iconic romantic films of the 80s 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' starring Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla and directed by Mansoor Khan. To talk about the film with Abbas and Urjita we have the honour and privilege to have Imran Khan (yes, the same Imran of 'Jaane Tu..', 'Break Ke Baad' and #LautAaoImran fame) as a guest!
Topics discussed include: Imran's memories of being on set, growing up in the Nasir Hussain household, Imran's "debut" performance in QSQT, Aamir Khan and Juhi being introduced to the world, the strong supporting cast, a broader conversation on the intent and craft of films, a slight detour on Imran's film 'Kidnap' (how could we not?), and do not miss Imran pointing out a massive blunder Abbas did on the 'Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu' episode of HIAW.

Imran has this clam & chill vibe to him. Also if you understand his point of view , it explains his choice of movies back in 20s. Watching those films after watching Imran in this podcasts would be a whole different experience. I think critics & people bashed him back then was just too harsh. He looks like that soft romantic guy next door. I am definitely watching his movies again after watching him here.

My brother is the same age as Abbas Momin, which is the same number of years that have passed since Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT) got released. However, I watched the film thirteen years ago and couldn't bring myself to watch it again because of its tragic ending, which left me feeling traumatized

To understand cinema better. We should listen to the podcasts of the star kids actually. As Imran has spoken how the film was edited back then when he worked in his first film as child artist.
@dia606

Not all star kids. Most of them today don’t grow up on sets taking any interest in the actual craft of film-making - they AD with some famous director while doing gym training, grooming and dance lessons, without ever having thought about story, photography, scripts, lens

I know everyone keeps talking about Imran’s PR team-and maybe Abbas and/or Urjita can weigh in here-but my understanding is that he doesn’t have a PR team, an agent, or a manager, at least not yet. People are so conspiracy-minded, but I have no reason to disbelieve Imran. Siddharth Aambalayan confirmed this in response to one of my comments the other day. It makes sense that Imran would be appearing on podcasts; my understanding (from thousands of miles away in the U.S.) is that a lot of these hosts, many of them comedians, are friendly with one another. So is it really that surprising that they might talk to each other and say, “Hey, this was great, will you appear on my friend so-and-so’s podcast?,” or that Imran might actually be aware of some of them? It’s not like he’s suddenly showing up on _Koffee With Karan,_ although that might not be far off, because he’s still famous. He’s a guy we remember fondly and want to see again, so the moment he popped up in one or two places, I’m sure word got around. Anyway, it’s great to see Imran looking healthy and happy. I haven’t seen his short documentary, but I bet he’d be a good director. He could pull a Ben Affleck!

Imran was amazing in this episode. But the hosts are extra pleasing and trying hard to be extra nice. Baki time nepotism pe hamla but jab samne star kid hain to softie attitude. Comedians and their hypocrisy. Yahan Abbas ji bhi homework karke aye hain jo baki films ko normally forward karke dekhte hain even for the podcast. Get Imran for more episodes.

Imran’s story about him and Minissha Lamba reminds me of _Back to the Future,_ in which Biff starts to assault Lorraine in the car during the high school dance (back in 1955). Apparently, the actor playing Biff, Thomas F. Wilson (who is an extremely kind man in real life) was so uncomfortable filming that scene, and Lea Thompson’s performance felt so real to him, that he felt nauseated and kept apologizing to her between takes. Lea Thompson said to him, “Tommy, we’re making a movie. It’s make-believe. Don’t worry about it.” (I’ve had similar experiences on stage, but who cares lol.)

i think Abbas' score this time was not objectively based on how well the movie has actually aged but rather based on whether he personally related to it and whether or not it made him 'happy'. qsqt has aged better than a 6/10...it's like saying that today nobody would act like romeo and juliet characters therefore the shakespearean everlasting tragedy should get a score of 2/10 .

I get what you’re saying, but an honest question: can you think of a movie that you really dislike, but that you also think has aged really well? That is to say, isn’t gauging how well a movie one thinks a film has aged going to be filtered through the lens of how one feels about the film overall, at least to some degree? (I’ve never seen _QSQT,_ so I don’t really have an opinion on it, though I did not enjoy _Romeo and Juliet_ when I had to read it in 8th grade.)

1:49:26 Interesting that Urjita’s description of the scenes from Tum Mere Ho matches what’s shown in the famous ‘Pretentious Movie Reviews’ episode of the particular movie, and yet she makes no mention of Kanan and Biswa or the show. Was that intentional?
