Actually smart to understand what a QB is going for on a given route. IQ wise that's one of the best things to do

Good afternoon coach. Started watching these videos with my son. Without pads he throws great. We’re working on increasing his power through the hips. When it comes to game day, his mechanics go always and as his arm goes forward his forearm moves outward with the centrifugal force like you mention. He says that the pads make him feel uncomfortable. Any suggestions? Thanks for all the info through your videos!

Maybe smaller pads,

Definetly smaller pads. I had huge pads when I played youth football - they put XL sized adult pads on me (was 15 at the time) and now I'm wearing Size M as an Adult (25 now) and it works perfectly fine.

Hello Coach Darin and NFA coaches, I am a quarterback from Brazil and started to play football above one year ago. Some times when I throw the fade I can get a good ball in terms of distance and precision BUT the NOSE does not turn down with the trajectory. My throws dont hang the ball afeter all, but the trajectory of the nose is not a perfect arc. I mean i could hit the basket but not make the ball do through it. Any advices?

Without seeing your motion I can only speculate, but what you describe suggests you are likely doing one of two things...slashing or pulling down through the release. Slashing is a lower elbow and wider wrist through the motion. You would want to get your elbow elevated higher through the release, get the forearm more vertical (like a "high 5") and extend more with the wrist (reach more to the target through the finish). If you already have a higher release, what you described can happen when the QB is pulling down through the release instead of extending properly. These are the most common issues with trajectory failures on the fade.

What do you tell your high school son whose coach teaches him to tilt his shoulder back/angle up to make this throw?
