That part always kills me, because it's not like he did a scientific experiment where he finally discovered 1+1=2, Russel just wrote a formal set-theoretic proof of the theorem. The reason it's special isn't because we weren't certain 1+1=2 before (obviously we were), there just hadn't been a formal mathematical chain of logic that starts from basic assumptions and ends with the conclusion that 1+1=2 before because nobody did it before. It's like Euclid's Elements; it's not like they didn't know that in a triangle the sum of any two angles is less than 180 degrees, it just hadn't been formalized before that.

I'm not sure it would be a good fit for QI, it would really change the tone of the show if the presenter rants at the guests, and he can't get angry about the questions when he's the one asking and answering them. I think he's better as a guest.

Yes, Dame Nellie Melba's father was called David Mitchell. He is buried in the Lilydale lawn cemetary, in front of a wonderful memorial for his daughter. Her memorial is hedged by Rosemary, and his grave is the largest in the cemetery. As kids we played around her memorial, as we lived almost next door.
