I put together the unboxing, a little demo of some issues, and then I take you inside the boombox to try to figure out if I can fix the issues. At the end I demo the boombox mostly working perfectly. I'm so glad I was able to win the auction for this one five years ago & finally decided to try to "fix" it.
I put up some pictures in this album:

Congratulations on owning and fixing your TRC-931. It's an absolute classic in the boombox collector world (some consider it a "must have") so please take good care of it. Your video just reminded me that I have not listened to my TRC-931 in a while, so I'll take care of that tonight. Thanks for the reminder!

I got the same model since 1985 but it's 4 BANDS and the power is Brown and yellow. The radio quality is great. MADE IN TAIWAN. 38 years in my power. Everytbing works. It's how you take care of it. Now is worth a fortune.

Wow that's awesome that you still have your original one. Yeah maybe some people were way too ruff of the switches and it doesn't help that the plastic internals get brittle over time so they break.

I got one at a thrift store for 30 bucks. someone back in the 80s must have my initials because it has MB in golden like plastic ones you would put on your car under the left tweeter at the edge, love that thing. also mine still has the p.m.p.o sticker on the cassete door and mine also only has one antenna not even a hole for the second one, maybe a base model

Sounded like the play/record switch needed cleaning - is connected to the record button on the lower deck and swaps the polarity of the play/record head to record/write to the cassette tape,
@Qosmokid
@Qosmokid 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't even know that's what that switch was until another viewer mentioned it. You are correct, after I sprayed some Deoxit on it and moved it around a bunch of times it did seem to help. Someday I still might go back and replace all the capacitors.

Just purchased one for 10$, powers on but the radio doesn’t work & left speaker goes in & out, desperate to fix it. I hit it on its side and it went from 6/10 volume to 1/10 volume. What should I do?
@Qosmokid
@Qosmokid 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pedro, well Im not an expert on repairing these things. I just went in and tried touching things to try to find what was causing the noise. I think for yours maybe try spraying electrical contact cleaner into the pots but sometimes it's like capacitors that need to be replaced. Wow only $10 that good even if it doesn't work even just to display.

I think most people who buy these are not for investment. Its for nostalgia and collecting purpose. The prices are very variable, check eBay for what boomboxes are selling for now. I've seen broken ones sell for up to $600 and very nice complete ones for up to $1000 or even more depending on the model
