Very useful and explanatory video! One comment though, it is important to mention that in PDA (contrary to ASD,VSD), Qp is calculated with LVOTd and LVOT VTI and Qs is calculated with RVOTd and RVOT VTI

Thank you so much for your videos! I am currently a echo student and I start clinicals in less than a week! I am super excited but a little nervous. However, your videos have helped put my mind at ease. I wanted to suggest a video concept where you actually go through a full study with a pathology and then show/explain what steps to take, what additional measurements/views to obtain for certain pathologies. I think this would be helpful! Thanks again!!

If parasternal short axis is suboptimally visualized, would it be acceptable to use the pulmonic tilt view? If there are no parasternal views, would it be acceptable to use LVOT and RVOT measurements from apical views?

Hello, as long as you are perpendicular to the blood flow you can use any other alternative views. And if you don't have any other option and really need to obtain this measurement, you could measure the LVOT diameter from the apical views, just mention that in the report and also you could try to check previous scans to see if they could measure the LVOT before and have some consistency.

Thank you for another great video. I would like to ask, when u trace the spectral doppler for RVOT(or LVOT) VTI (@11.40), u start from the baseline, but you end the tracing before touching the baseline. Should it also end at the baseline?

Thank you! Haha I think that's a bad habit to be "quicker"... When I'm closer to the baseline after tracing I click the enter button and automatically the machine finish the trace... 🫶🏻 I do that with every trace I noticed 🤣...

In the figure at 8:58 the LVOT measurement does not seem to be made exactly at the insertion points of the aortic leaflets but something like ~5 mm below.

Hello, yes the guidelines are different in every country... Here in the UK the LVOT measurement could be made up to 1cm from the AV insertion point... Now is suggested to be done closer to the valve as possible... So it's always important to check your own guidelines 😊

Can you please show a video on how to properly Measure the rvot VTI. Bc im confused. The rvot measurement is measured before the valve. So I thought the rvot VTI gate placement would be in this location. But in video it says placement is on or after the valve??? In Pulmonary artery??? I'm so confused. Please help

The RVOT is measured just before the PV leaflets with PW Doppler...

Hi, I recently had an echo,diagnosed with a large asd and my qpqs is 3.2. is it same as 3:2 ? And is 3.2 a significant qpqs?

Nice video. Just a correction. The invasive QpQs measurement is NOT "highly invasive", it just requires a venous sheath into the groin, a catheter and a few blood gas measurements from the IVC, SVC, RA, PA and an arterial blood gas. Takes about 5min to do. And does NOT require general anaesthesia.

Anything that's invasive means: (of medical procedures) involving the introduction of instruments or other objects into the body or body cavities. It doesn't matter if you need sedation or not, that's invasive, requires planning, consent, etc.
