I play tube amps for 40 years, live + recorded, and the Kemper was the first amp to nail it. Sure enough, others offer something similar. And I am not surprised the QC does a good job. Apart from that, it might just be your preferred interface. To me, loving 80's rack gear, the Kemper rack is a dream come true. Setup properly there is literaly no difference in sound quality - whether recording or while rehearsing. Gosh, what would I have given to have that amp tech mid 80s! Ok, besides my Marshall.

Awesome video. You're definitely right, it comes down to how they will serve you. I like to just buy the profiles of good engineers for the kemper and probably won't switch because I already have a good library of profiles. Great video thanks :)

The only reason to switch, would be if there’s something the QC does, that the KPA can’t.

I can’t speak to the quad cortex as I don’t have one but I do have a Kemper in my studio and I love it. I feel there are several important points of misunderstanding as to what the Kemper does and is and therefore some unfulfilled expectations. These are just a few things I’ve discovered over the past year or so. #1) the Kemper IS NOT an amp in the room replacement. It’s just not. An amp is an entity unto itself, the vibration and weight of the cabinet, the heavy transformers pushing speakers moving air etc etc. A better way of looking at it is like this. Record your amp to sound as good as possible….. then play that back. That’s the Kemper. That’s what it is. It’s a snapshot in time of your amp , at those settings. Remember that between your “amp in the room” and your recording (or profile) there are several filters and EQ’s like mic’s and pre amps that color the sound. #2) there are tons of BAD PROFILES of good amps available. Really bad profiles outnumber good ones 100 to 1. Find a reputable source (or 2) for great profiles and use them. You will have to pay for great profiles but it’s well worth it. Better yet …. Make your own great profiles of your amps. #3) it takes a bit of time and effort to make great profiles . READ THE INSTRUCTIONS watch videos like this one and other reputable profile creators like Michael Britt , Tone Junky etc. my profiles sound EXACTLY like my amps now. They didn’t always … but now they do after picking up lots of tips from pros and experimenting myself. #4) this is a bit controversial but I’ve found that the guitar you use (not just with regards to single coil vs humbucker but the actual guitar) affects the profile performance with other guitars . especially if it’s been “refined” with a certain guitar. Ohhh there’s a lot more but those are a few of the big points. The Kemper profiler is an incredible tool and a game changer but like any tool it requires some time to become proficient. I use it almost daily in the studio and it’s increased my productivity immensely.

Awesome comparison. I think I'll buy a Kemper for many reasons, but the QC, honestly, sounds way more natural to my ears. It's impressive how good it can reproduce the fullness, warmth and the "roundness" of the real amp. Am I alone? Really?
@NicoandAlej
@NicoandAlej 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think on this video the Kemper just that tiny bit more muffled. QC is what sounded closest to the mic'd amp to my earS.

I have both and the helix. The quad feels most like an amp. To me, sounds better, easier to use, fun to use. For now holding on to the modelers/profilers due to lack of tubes. But at the end of the day it’s tube amps and pedals for me. Nothing will beat that. Will an audience know ? No, but I will. Another gray modeler that’s overlooked is the Yamaha 100hd double modeler. So simple to use, sounds and feels great. Plug in and play thru a guitar cabinet. $800 new and comes with its own power. I wish the quad did because I’m using a tube amps return effects loop.

@@Utubewrk123 I stay absolutely with you, we as musicians play to enjoy music and an amp, even a small one, always wins! Maybe at some point, you have to make a specific decision based on the context. For instance, I've seen Cory Wong playing on a big stage with a quad cortex and no amps at all (at least not visible on the stage). For clean tones is difficult to hear a difference but it's obviously a trade-off because of the difference between a guitar amp speaker and a stage monitor.

Yeah for me too the quad sounds more natural, there is less dynamic in the kemper and I always hear like a weird boxy 500hz bump in kemper profiles (i have one). For live gigs the quad is also way lighter than the kemper (head and stage).

I guess I'm a little confused. How can they be the same if you say the QC sounds different and smoother than the original and the Kemper sounds just like the original? I have both so I have no real bias, but I'm trying to understand what you're saying. Thanks
@aphekrecordingstudio4274

I was attempting to say that while playing them, the QC felt like it was smoothing the sound slightly. Listening to my recordings of them both, I don’t hear any difference. So it’s a perception I get with the QC, that doesn’t come across on playback. Did I explain that any better? :)
@DavidEidelberg
@DavidEidelberg 2 жыл бұрын
@@aphekrecordingstudio4274 I thik so. There's a difference when playing, but not during playback of the recording. So for those of us who don't record but play live, the Kemper is truer to the original in feel and sound. But maybe the audience hears the same thing live?

Nice job. Just a note, at this point we are just splitting very fine hairs. It comes down to response and that has to be experienced, or, learned. Back in the day when you had a handful of amps to choose from, you picked one that best fit your need and you got good at it. We live in an age that gives us everything at our finger tips and expect the gear to make us legendary. The reality is, no one in an audience or on the other side of the speaker is going to be able to tell the micro differences in the sound of the rig you are playing through, but they will know if it is being played well.

Actually I get the exact opposite. The kemper seams to retain the rawness of the original amp and the QC seams to smooth (round out) each curve in all frequencies. It is kind of hard to explain but that is my experience and from all the comparisons I have tested.

@@Brutalgruve I agree completely. That’s the way it feels to me too. Hence my surprise on playback, that the QC sounded almost the same. I’ve been recording more examples, for a follow up video, but still trying to understand what’s going on. Still a mystery as to why it seems to sound so different when playing.
