Thanks man I raised my idle RPM to 900 from 800 and actually burned the gas puddles in the quadrajet and passed smog well below instead of above max levels after replacing the vac lines and bad spark plug cable eaten by rats. When I went to shut off later she was dieseling and I realized I was idling high and stuck in choke with temps rising fast. I released the auto choke without loosening the screws by toggling the lower lock and it clicked unlocked and fully closed. Saved me hours and a possible fire. 🎉

That looks like the wrong coil for that carb, the hook is upside down. I have quite a few different ones. I found the correct part number for my 17080213 carb, I bought 7 extra NOS choke coils for it off of ebay as spares.

What is that diaphragm thing for with the rubber hose that uses vaccum?
@BlacktoppPerformance Жыл бұрын
@@TruckThisGarage It initially opens the choke a little upon starting, helps to start up until the spring inside the choke housing has a chance to warm up and expands to open the choke valve the rest of the way.

Good morning. Thank you for your video. I have owned a 1975 Corvette for two years. Until recently I started the car easily without problem and now I have the idle which remains at the fast speed at 1500 rpm with a tendency to increase. I'm in trouble because the car is stored in a fairly small box in the basement and I can't stay there with the engine running. What do you think I should check first? Thanks for reading me. Please excuse my language, I am French and I use Google translate.
@BlacktoppPerformance2 ай бұрын
First, check all linkages and make sure nothing is sticking or gummed up. Then check for dried out gaskets/seals, replace as needed. Me, I would drive it and see if it clears up. Hey, if you see a 1973 Black & White Dodge Charger over there in France, watch out! Sold it a few years back, and it's Big Block will eat Corvettes lol...Hope this helps ya

@@BlacktoppPerformance Thank you for your reply. I'll look at what you recommend. Yes, I'm also thinking about the vacuum line and I noticed that when heating, the motor gives off a smell of burnt rubber. On the other hand, driving the car, I am afraid of breaking the engine because of the temperature. In any case, thank you and I will watch out for the black Corvette eater... Best regards.🙂

In case automatic choke stuck on with the quadrajet, it merely requires a little French finger loving to release so it will idle down and close both flaps properly again.

Ok so when you do the adjustment choke tension do you do it when you already have choke plate closed or while it's still open (cold engine). Thanks
@BlacktoppPerformance6 ай бұрын
The choke plate should be closed [cold]

@BlacktoppPerformance darn, ok. I just installed a new one on my 78 Cadillac with the 425 and I did it when it was open (cold engine). Would I need to remove it, have choke plate closed and reinstall it...(of course on cold engine)
@BlacktoppPerformance6 ай бұрын
@edgarherrera5085 yea the choke plate will be open only on a warm engine, on a cold engine plate must be closed. That's when you want to adjust it
@edgarherrera50856 ай бұрын
@BlacktoppPerformance thank you sir. Car still runs fine after its warmed up, it's only at start up and I have already driven the car today after the install. I'll let car sit overnight and make sure choke plate is closed, loosen screws and adjust. Think it's shutting to tight, because on your video it's partly open after you adjusted it. Thanks for the reply. Hope this resolves my cold start issues.

Sounds like you're fast idle is sticking, perhaps the linkage or lever has been bent or just has debris such as grime,dirt or grease not allowing it to move properly. The fact that you're curb idle screw will not rest on the lever tells me it's something to do with your fast idle linkage. I would spray it with carburetor spray and clean it very well as your manually working the linkage. Hope that helps
