I thought German’s were known for their business acumen. The new owners obviously don’t understand the market they’ve just bought into. I will not do business with them unless you’re there. That said, please keep us posted so we can know where to take our business!

Yeah, not a sound business choice, sounds like this guy didn’t do a single shred of research about our shop😕sad for the legacy of the shop, it’s soul and magic are gone. Drained in two weeks of every bit of fun that shop had. now it’s a place to be fearful of management because they’re watching you, threatening to “fire anyone in a second”. Nobody trusts them at all, texts are flying between all of us how much we hate this guy’s guts, and don’t trust them.. all the comradeship and team spirit is totally gone and it’s sucks so bad, not for me, not for my job..but everything. It’s no longer a team fighting together to succeed, we no longer have a boss that we love,and want to support. just.. feared and hated. I’ll move on,but that place was built from the hard work and dedication of all of that crew..they deserve respect and dignity at work. I feel very,very sad for my colleagues and for the legacy of that shop which is now..fake, plastic and turned to shit. It makes me want to cry at times,knowing that place is being destroyed and dissolved so callously. They lie to us, saying “be yourselves! We love that!” “ We LOVE your website! I need to learn from you!” and then shut the office door and plot who to humiliate next. My family will be okay, but a lot of those kids work check to check, they’re stuck there,with no other choices.. and it’s gotten very ugly there in the last two weeks, so ugly and disgusting that i don’t even want to visit there anymore to say,”hi,” it’s just scary, foreign, cold and so, so ugly and fake now.. The boss. Closes his door and asks not to be spoken to,” I want to be invisible” he says.. When our for,er store manager,Jose greeted him with a cheery,”good morning” he IGNORED him and just walked passed him.. That’s a gentleman in his 60’s that’s managed our shop for 25 years. He is not a some subordinate at boot camp! Just take a half second and smile back..how hard is that? To show these workers an ounce of respect by treating them like a human being, he’s a a loyal worker, a hard worker, an honest worker.. who keeps your shitty store running so you can make your shitty paycheck.. give him the human decency of smiling, or a little nod…even a fake smile. That is NOT RIGHT. Maybe that kind of atmosphere is acceptable for a 16 year old kid working at the yogurt stand in a mall, maybe they’d put up with that..maybe. But not to this gentleman,he’s an elder,and he commands respect. Even a small, descent amount of dignity. My little shitty paycheck is not worth waking up to that every day.. Half the crew are depressed, on anti depressants , (at least 4 I know of, including myself) and struggling to pay their rent. Im the only employee with a young child,and they know my wife is battling cancer this year too. But they don’t care at all.. they don’t care. my thirty years of honest,dedication and integrity means nothing..There is no more integrity, or any sort of moral obligation to the crew at all. these are not people, they are robots, they are evil and if they don’t want me or respect me..they can go find a couple of more untrained teenagers to hire for minimum wage. Meanwhile, I’ll take 40-60% of their clientele with me to the next shop I represent…not exactly a sound business choice. I’m sure the actual owners were very happy when they heard that the idiot they hired tossed out their top earning salesman , on purpose! OMG talk about bad choices. My wife predicted this is going to be the beginning of the end for them. Retail is tough, running a hat shop is harder..when you know NOTHING about it,the odds are against you. If they think these minimum wage, teen mall workers are going to easily convince people to buy $300-500 hats, they’re inhaling too much hat stiffener, or maybe they just have bratwurst between the ears!🤣 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️☮️love ya, thanks for your kind note. Kev

@@quadrogong1111 When you kick out or belittle those are the heart of your business, you lose your business. By word of mouth or the fact, those cut will take the clients with them. With the word out that JJ's is not just a dead shell of what it was, and you are not even there, who would want to go there? This is no way to run a business that was working. Firing some of how much they are paid is petty and a lie. You did videos from the shop, and they drew people in to see you and the shop. NYC is costly, I can see many wanting to leave the job but can't. Now that see what happen and why you start making hats. With how you are going, you could even end up buy the shop when go under from being idiots. Firing key people and terrorizing the rest is no way to do business. Just keep being you, love your hats, love the channel.

Heys Kevin, so sorry about that place. Forget it’s name. Love your vids amigo. I’m in the process of making some decisions on Stetson Open Roads. Love the 6x & have been getting conflicting messaging on whether it’s possible, or advisable, to flatten the brim. I found the Cavalry II & love the brim style. Not sure if it’s weird to wear the Cavalry II w/ open eyelets as I do 5 p,an on using the straps. I love the idea of a hard wearing hat & that’s why the western felt appealed to me. Also, is it safe to assume the 5x fur felt as it’s billed is comparable in sturdiness to the 6x? Or wrong assumption? Wouldn’t mind connecting. Either, thanks amigo. You’ll land on your feet. Joe

I love Stetson, they’re the coolest hats on the planet.. but the Open Road is not a rugged hat, it’s a little bit prone to brim curling when it gets wet. That said, it’s not really because it’s inferior or anything like that.. it’s just they’re basically fedoras..dress hats, with a western style. The brim can be flattened.. it has a very flat flange and is fairly flat already. Stetson 6X western hats are infinitely more rugged than an open road, no comparison.. The Skyline,Carson, Shasta, Rancher.. those real westerns are bullet proof.. but the crossover hats like open road, stratoliner and the Dune are meant to be lightweight and for everyday wear.. they’re not rain hats. If you want a Hat to take rain get a 6x western. If you want something that looks good, and you can avoid heavy rain, the 6x open road is super cool.

Kevin, before 2020 I only owned a snow cap. I never bought hats because I could never find hats that fit my small odd shaped head and that actually looked good. Then I saw your videos. I bought one hat from JJ based on your recommendation. Then two. I now own 18 hats, 15 I bought from JJ based on your recommendations and videos. I wear a hat everyday now. I get complements all the time on them. So, thank you a lot. JJ Hat Center is losing a valuable employee. Let us all know if you hook up with another hat shop, company or dealer. Best wishes.

Thanks Charlie. Everyone is shaking their heads..apparently, this suit who has been watching us from the catwalks..(this fellow the Germans hired to watch over us) decided that he didn’t like me. Either our manager is too spineless to stand up to him, or she’s just too stupid herself to realize that a huge percentage of our mail orders are generated by my video promos. Either way, the atmosphere there is completely evil and soulless,and everyone is frightened and nervous. The shop was running itself! All they needed to do is bring in high end merchandise, and that’s it.. gonna go “high end” by firing the quirky guy with the long hair. With business decisions like that, They’ll last a season or two until the money runs out.

Thanks you, I try to be honest, which is an oxymoron when talking about sales..early on, I found that folks don’t buy BS very easily, the first time you get caught,you’re done. It’s stressful, and exhausting when you have to stretch the truth to make sales. if I tell folks the good and the bad,they actually trust me..same thing with my video persona. Being myself is easier, if I put in this bubbly DJ persona, it would be way more stress, like acting.. I speak to customers the way I’d speak to my friend.. it’s natural and easy, and it may not seem polished to work without a script, but it works for me.

What a gorgeous album, I miss George Thanks for the sweet note. You people are why I live this business.. not the hats, certainly not the money.. it’s people like you that make me feel great. Knowing I’ve inspired someone, or passed my knowledge along to them is a good feeling. To be honest, I didn’t know I was loved by so many people.. it’s a surprise to me. I knew you guys were always there, but the support,gratitude and love I’m getting since this thing happened has just shocked me. I’m a very private person, I’m super close to my wife and son…and I don’t really socialize much. I’ve never gotten very close to any of my coworkers.. I’m sort of a private person. Buy through this channel I’ve learned to share my feelings more, and to let myself get closer to folks. I’ve learned that there are people that I’ve never met.. hundreds of them.. that are showing actual love for me.. support,compassion.. one viewer is helping me make a pro logo for Hats & Guitars, which might even become a hat brand done day! So many folks are offering words of encouragement, and donating services to me, giving gifts.. I have so many pages of comments, for the first time I can’t get to them all! Hello Kevin, I just now subscribed to your channel. I have been watching for just a few weeks, ever since I started having an interest in hats. I am a Pastor in Texas and pastor a very small church and at this point can’t afford the more expensive hats so I have been buying a few off brands on Amazon. Don’t hate me for that LOL. I love the hats you show on your channel and won’t to save up for a quality hat. I also appreciate your you kind demeanor and charismatic personality. You’re passion for hats is a pleasure to watch. I am so sorry for your recent misfortune with your employment and am praying for you to find your next adventure. Blessings from Texas.

Thank you for your blessings too❤wishing only peace and joy for you and your family as well. so glad you like my channel, and hey Amazon hats are not bad. I don’t have a problem with cheap hats. You know, I only wear felt fedoras at work! When I’m wearing a hat on my day off, it’s usually a cheap,cotton bucket hat.. those are my favorites to actually wear. I love my green hat, but I usually wear headphones when I’m running around the city, and fedoras and headphones don’t mix. Cheap hats are cool! I love cheap guitars too. Just because something is expensive, it doesn’t make it right for you. I like cool hats, comfortable hats, elegant hats, fun hats.. as long as you love your hat, it’s sacred , despite the cost. Sometimes I like them better that way.. 😊 I only have a problem when cheap hats are sold at high, high prices.

@@quadrogong1111 thanks Kevin! I appreciate the opinion about inexpensive hats! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. By the way, I am also a musician. I started out on the guitar as a kid (mostly rhythm) but now mainly play the piano or keyboard. I have played in church practically all my life. Just gospel music but some of what we do is contemporary and some is more like southern gospel. Kind of a blended sound. Anyway, you have a great talent on the guitar as well friend. Keep your head up, I expect good things will happen in your future.

I collect vintage Stetson hats. Vintage Stetson's always have the name of the retailer embossed into the sweatband, almost all of which went out of business long ago. Some of my hats originally came from J&J Hat Center, but I never thought much about it until I stumbled on Kevin's videos which put them on my map. I haven't been to New York City since the 1990s but figured the next time I visit I would stop by J&J and maybe buy a hat, but not anymore. That indicates Kevin is probably J&J's best advertisement and sales promoter and they flushed it away over pennies. Fifty years ago I got my first job at a pet store in the local mall. After about a year the manager changed and he hired his brother and I was only scheduled for 3 hours per week. At $1.60 and hour that is $4.80 a week. So I quit and learned that changes in management often don't work out well for the existing employees.
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 10 ай бұрын
I don’t really get it, if some idiot the owners hired thought I was a hippie, or on drugs..or whatever turned him off..they would’ve spoken to me,and warned me. If it was my salary, like they said..it’s Pennies..I work three days a week!! Compared to the mail order customers I bring in? about 500 people in this comment section all commented and said they came to Jjs because of me, and they won’t spend another Penny there. That is going to totally dry up their mail order dept and knock their books way out of balance. I was like the model employee, never late,teaching everyone else the skills..and by far the top performing salesman there. Thats the crazy thing! I was doing a perfect job! Top earner,opening and closing on time, ….and the new manager knew my wife is battling cancer,and that we’re raising a child. No notice, no warning, no severance, no negotiation, no,”maybe we can re-hire you at Xmas” just “we gotta let you go, we need the keys, bye” But they did remember to to ask me to sign some kind of waver, you believe that? the arrogance. I don’t know how that cold hearted POS sleeps at night

It’s sad because bit was all set up to make millions.. now everyone wants to boycott,they’re sending letters and calling the old shop.. I've never been with a company for anything like 30 years, so I'm not going to say I know how you feel, but stay up and keep moving forward. If life is at all consistent, it's that it consistently kicks you in the nuts. It kicks everyone in the nuts, and the happy, successful people take it, move on, and kick back when the opportunity arises. It sounds corny, but change is opportunity. It gets us out of ruts and routines, and presents us with new opportunities. Anyway, I've gone on long enough. Regards, Jon

Hey Kevin, Very sorry to hear that. You got me into dress hats in the first place. He first fedora I ordered was a Stetson Asher and I ordered it from JJ’s. Needless to say, they won’t be getting any more of my business. Thank you for all that you have taught me, and i sincerely wish you the best, and know that even though it might be hard now it will definitely turn out for the better in the end. ✌️❤️

Hey brother, Joshua from Dusty Desert Hat Co. This is heartbreaking. You have helped me out with advice, and I'm happy that you are still going to be available. If I could afford to hire you with your talent, I would. I will keep you in my prayers. Some people just don't know talent and knowledge. I have seen so many businesses do this same thing and close within a year. God bless

We’ll be okay, Im sure I can find a few jobs in the area, but I might want to think about other things, maybe step up the KZfaq channel and try to get some hat brands to buy ad time..do hat reviews directly from the hat brand for a fee.. before I rush into another sales job, I want to think about my options.. if I took this channel really seriously, I could make some really big checks from it instead of a few hundred a month

Brother Kevin, I can only imagine the sense of shock you are feeling. I am so sorry. When anyone I know asked me about my hats, I would always say, "go visit Kevin, he will take good care of you". I really am going to miss hanging with you at the shop, your help with getting me that great hat, and your talent for making all of my hats look their best. Your passion for hats is what made me appreciate them and why I have built my collection up to where it is now. You are the best at what you do. Definitely let us know where you end up working. I don't know what else to say, but please keep making your Kevin's Hats & Guitar videos and saying hi to all of us. See you soon on the KZfaq screen, Your friend and brother, Fran

Yeah, things are a little..”different” there now.. Everyone is being watched from the catwalk,and everyone on the floor is so nervous and bunched up from it that every last bit of joy has been drained from that wonderful shop in two weeks. It’s sad that Aida spent so long building that wonderful, legendary shop that we love.. and in two weeks everything is just completely shattered. This isn’t what she wanted. I just hope Townsend, Jose, Charlton and everyone isn’t too miserable there.. the last few days have been shocking, some of the things that were said by management were so disrespectful and disgusting that I’m too embarrassed to even tell you.

This is all so sad. Aida, you, and the rest of the guys made that shop the best place in the country to purchase hats. I've been to a bunch of shops around the U.S. and you guys are the best people in the business. I hope Aida is ok, as well as everyone else. This is all really rough to hear, but you are the best in the hat world and I can't wait to hear where you end up working. Wherever it is, they will be extremely lucky to have you. Love ya brother and we definitely gonna jam soon! We can hit up my studio and rock out! Hope your family is well and to see ya soon!

I’m so sorry to hear this, Kevin. You were definitely a tremendous asset to JJ Hat Center. It is too bad the seller (did you say Ida?) couldn’t or didn’t negotiate a deal to keep staff on.

She was told that they were going to keep most of the staff, but it’s okay.. the place has gotten so cold lately that nobody can relax for a second. the atmosphere is so toxic in there being watching from the catwalk,not speaking to us,or responding when we say,”good morning” That kind of atmosphere makes you not want to go to work in the morning. I doubt I could have endured that for another month. This way I don’t have to suffer going to that chamber of horrors anymore. 😂 😂 enjoy! Mazel tov! for me?..I’m a 57 year old man, not a kid working at a mall. I need a job where there’s a decent level or respect and where employees are treated with dignity.

Bummer Kevin. I finally made it to JJ's today and was hoping to meet you as I'm a fan of the channel and long time axe man myself. I live in Los Angeles but I'm in Jersey visiting my family and took a day trip to Manhattan. Townsend sold me a newsboy today and told me you no longer worked there. All good, yes, Townsend is the soul of that place..he gives his entire self to it and truly loves and respects that shop. He is one of the most selfless people I’ve ever met,and I’ve met maybe 50-70 workers there since 1994, and I’ve never really befriended any of them. I’ve always made it a policy not to get too involved with coworkers, and it’s always worked for me. Townsend, however..is different. He’s the only person I’ve ever really gotten even slightly close to in 30 years there, He’s really funny, lighthearted, loyal,a great communicator, a brilliant pianist and just a pure, genuine,gentle person who would give his entire heart and soul for a hat shop,because he loves hats. I hope he’s not stuck there in an unhappy place, he really needs that job. ..I just hope things work out for him there. I want him to just be happy

Dang, i didnt see this coming. We care about you kevin, and i feel bad that you have the sleeping problems. I had sleeping troubles over the years and its no fun. I still have sleeping troubles but they have evolved over time. But anyways, very sorry about the hat center manager doing you like this. I wont be doing any business with jj hat center unless they hire you back at some point. Did they even ask you if you would take a pay cut to stay on? Ive known people that got treated the same way, they put in 25 years and instead of a gold watch, they get a golden kick out the door. Even if they wanted to switch people out, there is a nice way to do it by letting people have notice and time to wind things down and say goodbye and slowly adjust. JJ hat center is a historical place, but they lost a piece of history and their best mascot and promotor by letting you go. Stay safe and sleep well my friend.

Nothing no notice no negotiation it was a lie The creep they hired to overlook the transition didn’t like me or my casual style The creepiest part? The manager knew my wife is battling cancer and that I’m the only one raising a child. She’s a cancer survivor too and this piece of work has the gall to to do leave me without a job?? They have money. A lot. Is it anti semitism? Who knows? The only other Jewish worker was told he’s underperforming And he’s great. It’s ugly and they’re very shady and stay behind closed doors watching us from the catwalk Never a single compliment ever Only warnings and come to my office like the high school principal . Be a human being and tell me the truth and give me a weeks notice.

@@quadrogong1111 Kevin, very sorry to hear your wife is dealing with serious health troubles. I hope she is getting the best treatment and things go very well for her. Yeah, who knows what those people are thinking. I mean, its a hat store and they should go with the formula that was working. What do they think is going to happen there by being stiff and hard to work for? I have heard for a long time on here about how european people in businesses over there tend to be uptight and not very friendly. I mean that is what i hear europeans say about europe. Maybe that uptight attitude is being applied to the hat store. I hear europeans who come to america talk about being surprised at how friendly people who work in stores here are towards customers compared to how store workers and waiters are in europe. Ive had some crazy nasty bosses to work for. One boss i had thought the way to motivate people was to be an angry grouch at all times which only made people quit and go to other places. It could be prejudice against you, or they just dont understand that americans tend to have a different way of interaction. I would rather go in a shop and deal with you and your easy going way of doing things than deal with a over serious person who is scared the boss is watching them. These new owners will probly find out their formula for a hat shop will not work so well here. I wish you and your family all the best.

Sending lots of aloha from here in Hawaiʻi, Kevin! Although I am a casual viewer, you've open my eyes to world of hats beyond a snapback. My grandfather was a cowboy and the women in my family love to wear dress hats and put feather bands around them. It's junk to hear about your situation, especially having a lot of history with the JJ Hat Center and you seeming to be such a stellar hat advocate. Good things happen to good people, Don't count yourself out as a good person. Your awesome human being and just super genuine. Lots of aloha, Kevin!

The only reason I used to buy hats there was because of you- my business will go wherever you work. I didn’t know anything about hats when I found your channel, but had always admired them- thanks to your guidance and education, three years later I own more than a dozen, almost all from your former employer. I won’t buy anything else there, and I’m glad I hadn’t bought anything under the new management yet- I removed them from my browser’s bookmarks as soon as I found out. I hope someone else brings you on soon so I can start sending my business their way. Of course, your fallback plan could be to dye your hair blonde and sell your own line of Madonna hats again. 😆
