Boys! _that creepy bowser’s laugh_

That sounds cartoonish and off-fitting for a brutal game.
@fogfatigue49802 жыл бұрын
It's somehow surprisingly fitting
@christiangottsacker69322 жыл бұрын
It stands out and communicates a sense of discombobulation amidst gutteral monster wailing, gunfire, and explosions.
@fogfatigue49802 жыл бұрын
Wait, you know what? "Off-fitting" is a wrong word. This game has it's own unique atmosphere with unique sound effects which are all a part of the atmosphere.

It was apparently in other games before it.

And I can say, it sounds uncanny and weird which fits Quake's creepy environment. Why would there be a funny cartoony sound in a place full of devilry from the deepest parts of hell? Feels like an actual alternate dimension where everything is odd and alien

Gotta love stock sound effects, almost any game looking to prefer a small budget on sound production uses them all the time.

@@ThinBear4 Is there a name for them?
@ThinBear43 жыл бұрын
@@ikagura Correction - there's actually *5* teleport sound effects in Quake. Quake wiki lists them simply as tele1.ogg, tele2.ogg and so on. quake.fandom.com/wiki/Teleporter_(Q1)

@@ThinBear4 Thanks, I didn't even notice in-game. PS: I love how one of them is also in Mario 64
@ThinBear43 жыл бұрын
@@ikagura I believe they originated as stock sound effects. It was a common practice for ID Software to utilize stock assets in their games in the 90s. One other game which I've encountered *all 5 of those sound effects* is Tread Marks, which uses them as a respawn sound.
