So we know that physics got turned upside down at the turn of the 20th century, but how did that all begin? What was the first thing that set this whole chain of events into motion? Well it all started with Max Planck, blackbody radiation, and the ultraviolet catastrophe. Gather round, children. Let me tell you a tale...

I felt like it was really dorky and a little cringey the first time. But he is sooo good at breaking down complex concepts in the least amount of time. He doesn't bs and wind on for 30 minutes... Unlike some people I personally am. Anyway after a while the song grows on you, it is cute dorky now.

Your description on the quantization of energy is nigh unparalleled, even a kid could fully grasp it from this, so much sense hit me on the topic after watching this.. things I had initially took for granted and never really understood on quantization make so much sense now , its almost crazy , the whole thing on the miniscule scale/nature of quantization being the reason why it was overlooked in the classical approach of black body radiation calculation is crazy, thanks Professor Dave...

Planck's approach was to analyze the entropy of blackbody radiation as a function of energy. To make both Wein's Law and Rayleigh-Jeans Law consistent with the Second Law of Thermodynamics, he included an additional "guess" term proportional to the frequency. A paper titled "Planck’s Route to the Black Body Radiation Formula and Quantization" by Michael Fowler (7/25/08) gives a nice discussion.

It's absolutely incredible that an ad hoc utilization of Planck's expression for black body radiation turned out to be so amazingly useful. It's hard to believe sometimes that hypotheses can become such hard & fast truths about spacetime. Wow. And sometimes it feels like it comes from simple laziness: "I just want to deal with integers right now; it's easier. Oh, that reveals fundamental truths about the nature of reality? That's cool, I guess. 😎" -Max Planck, probably

I heard somewhere that Planck just got irritated with the math and introduced h as the minimum energy value, fully certain that h=0, so that classical mechanics would still work and minimum energy would still be 0. But later in the calculation he saw that h has an actual value, and not just 0

The claim at 00:55 is highly disputed. The eye doesn't care about Watts, it "sees" photons. But the peak of the planck wave for photon rate (at 5778 K) is in the IR-region. This only applies for a linear wavelength scale. If you use a linear frequency scale, the peak positions change again.
