What do you guys typically do? Keep quantization on or off? Or maybe both? Free kit: www.itsnavied.com/kits

I'm Listening in Headphones and it would be nice if you : made the volume of your beats relative to the sound of your voice overs. I always have to quickly turn down my volume when you play the beat and return it to it's default state when you start talking again. It would increase my absorption of your tutorials, and allow me to continue watching longer w/o fatigue. ♥❤♥

@EdgieAlias4 жыл бұрын
Death Grips uses this technique for MC Ride's lyrics. It'll go off time, and then return to it to create a heavy relief and satisfaction in the music. You can't know what's "good" if you don't know what's "bad."
@NavieD4 жыл бұрын
100%. That contrast between being on-time and off-time is what makes it interesting. Which is why I don't subscribe to the whole "everything unquantized" idea. If everything is off-time, it just ruins any sense of rhythm. Also, whats your favorite Death Grips tune?

I don't quantize at all, but realistically I probably should. :P Sometimes I'll drag things to where I hear it if I'm tryna lay stuff down fast and don't have time to do a million takes. Quantization makes stuff sound 'Hard'er in a more trap/electronic sense in my opinion, but I like a lot of pre-computerized rock music, like Led Zep and miss the groove in modern Hip Hop.
@NavieD4 жыл бұрын
I hear you, I think there's a time and place to go really crazy and very unquantized and there are times when going very quantized works. But I find there are producers who may be a bit too binary and think it's an all or nothing deal and the rhythm of their music suffers from being too loose or too stiff. I think having both quantized and unquantized components in music is probably the best way to approach it from a basic entry level point of view. Do you record all of your instruments live or do you program them in by hand as well?
@NicStride4 жыл бұрын
@@NavieD MPD or keys for drums and synths/keys. Sometimes I record percussive samples but not so often. Voice and guitar have to be recorded live because... They're live! :D
