Today I was in the yard teaching a friend large area gelcoat repair, my neighbor who has known me for about a year and seen me with my other boat goes "Nathan how do you know so much about this boat stuff" I laughed and said Boat works today on KZfaq for the last 6 years. You call that a paint, but correct me if I am wrong, doesn't that behave more like a resin because it uses a catalyst and is not simply air cure?

I have a 21 foot cuddy cabin. Do you think putting this paint on the hull is a good idea? Will the paint wear through fast or damaged badly going on and off the trailer?

Wouldn’t the paint be applied more evenly if you quickly applied to the whole area and then rolled back over?

I haven't watched all of your videos, mostly because I am just so busy that I don't have alot of time to watch alot of TV or videos. But I would like to ask you a question. I'm rehabbing a 15' 1988 Rogue Eagle fiberglass bass boat. The hull and transom are in really good shape. There's a couple of superficial spider cracks in gelcoat at the rear. And then 2 very small cracks on each side of the motor on the transom. They don't flex at all, and they are small really. But I want to do this right. It's my first boat, and first time working on one. I'm a carpenter/contractor and have a pretty good skill set and I am confident in my abilities, and I'm sure those skills will translate well to this project. The previous owner did a REALLY BAD spray paint job on it. What I need to know is, do I sand the old paint off, or use some sort of stripper. Will I damage the fiberglass if I sand it? I sanded a small area, and I also used goof off graffiti stripper on a small area. Sanding is definitely quicker. Is that ok to do? I know I'll have to hand sand some crevices and other precarious areas, and I'm ok with that. I just want to do it as fast as possible because I don't have alot of time while I'm at where I am. I'm leaving to go back home to Virginia in a month and a half, and I'd like to do this in my spare time and be able to take it out here in Connecticut at least once before I leave. Also, I'm planning on rolling it. What paint do you recommend? This Quantum 99 in this video? And I want to do like an emerald green w/metallic flake. Does Quantum 99 have that color that you know of. Any advice you have is most welcome. I fully understand if you don't have time to respond and answer my questions, as I'm sure you get several. I've made an exhausting internet search, but I get conflicting results. Thank you for your time making your videos. love your videos! Tons of great information. My question is how do you think this paint stands up to the epifany yacht paint? Are they comparable or is the epifany better even though it requires tipping?

I'm restoring an old fiberglass MFG boat. It's a typical 14 ft runabout. MFG made the first Corvette bodies. Anyway...this particular boat has over two hundred screw holes that I filled with an epoxy/talc mixture. The word is that polyester gelcoat is not compatible with polyester gelcoat. However, I watched you video where you proved that to be wrong if proper prep. Being the boat is old, sky blue in color, finding an exact match of gelcoat is out of the question and I really don't feel like the idea of all the sanding and polishing that goes with that process. I did it before on a kayak I build long ago and it's easy to sand through too much. I'm now thinking of painting with Quantum 99. Spraying actually. I think I might like it do to its repair ability. Do I need to use a PRIMER over the old gelcoat before using this product? Keeping in mind of all those screw holes I filled with epoxy.

Have you ever used Supermarine Revolution? Seems like an attractive paint for diy guys.

What about briteside brand, what do you think of it ? Also do you have to tip ? When and when no does tipping need to be done?

I am wanting to paint my aft deck topside. It has non-skid currently. Rather than sand off all the non-skid is there another way to prep? e.g., wire brush, etching chemical or something? Thank you!

Hi Andy, I wish to paint the deck of my yacht, however 3/4 of the deck area is covered in panels of factory non slip. If I am to paint a foundation coat plus an undercoat plus the topcoat; the non slip will possibly disappear! any thoughts on this. thanks. Patrick.

Im looking at sanding my bottom paint off and repainting with it with something smoother and more maintenance free, would this be a good option?

I have purchased this kit from John and was told that it would cover up to 23' boat. My question is will one quart be enough or will need two? I plan on spraying but my kit was 1-qt ice blue for hull & 1-qt white for top side. Thanks

A shame you picked a color is nearly the same as the surface you're covering. To judge the results, paint over it in light blue and show your stuff 😊

Should I use gel coat or jamestown topside paint for my cabin interior. I may want to wet sand and polish. PS I'm anal. Gotta be perfect!
