Why do the critics need to be so pretentious? Napoleon complex? As Marco Pierre WHite said (more or less): "I was being judged by people who knew less about food than me."

Food critics always seem to be very posh and born with silver spoons in their mouths (I mean the current Queen's son is one of them). Normal folk wouldn't think they could get a career out of going to extremely expensive restaurants and trashing the work of people with far more knowledge.

@@paulthomas4908 Agree. And it seems to be a bit of a paradox. I mean, how can someone judge a craft they can't do themselves? In other words there must be a lack of knowledge based of craftmanship and experience outside of "just" tasting.

I agree entirely. That's why consumers shouldn't be able to review products. For example, only authors should be able to review books because if you can't write a book, how can you possibly critique one? Hang on, it sounds really stupid when I put it like that...

I feel so bad for Bryce. He's being so hard on himself and he's a great chef. He's very creative and I admire that but I have to agree with the critics. Why on Earth would you want to eat a chocolate tortellini? His dish was beautiful and definitely did not need it good thing. It broke in the kitchen.

As a Chef I have never really tried to rise to the levels the Critics and Chefs are looking for. I have however had critics at close range and never minded constructive critisism. I have enjoyed the customer complaints as much as the compliments so long as they explained why they disliked a dish. the proper complaint is more valauable than a compliment.

If you're in a hurry, temper your meat in a microwave oven set to a low power setting. You can warm up a thick cut of meat in 3min in a modern microwave oven set to 20% power. It's like sous vide without the hassle of bags and a water bath before it hits the skillet. It's a great dirty trick to get an even medium rare tone fast.

It really bothers me that the male contestants sweat, wipe off their sweat with their hands (should use a towel) and then handle the food with unwashed hands! If this is the way they cook in restaurants, I won't be eating out anytime soon!

This competition is a joke, these so called chefs serve up raw meat constantly, get given more time and are just absolutely amateur. Having watched masterchef USA and Australia every season you serve raw meat you go home automatically. There’s no such thing a getting more time. The home cooks in these competitions would slaughter these chefs in one round…
