Easy way to teach inside/outside corner is to tell them to think of a cardboard box. Does the corner look like the inside of the box or the outside of the box.

I always just made a very quick sketch of the parts to be cut instead of your inside/long type notations. Works for me.

Brilliant video, best ive seen yet, I'm only a diy guy and what i used to do was cut some small pieces what i would put round the outside and inside corners so i knew which angle to cut and then took them with me to the compound mitre saw so i would always cut correctly, but great video

Depending on the saw (works on my 12-in rigid but not my 7 1/4-in Ryobi) you can line up your blade square first then move it to a 45 cut (while holding and making sure it doesn't move) and it will be right on the line without guesswork.

Would you be able to explain how you install quarter round when you have moulding blocks sticking out? The 45 degree angle is not working because of that tiny bit of the block that sucks out and no one has a video on it.

Do you have a video on the pro and cons on the different types of material used for 1/4 round and shoe molding? When I go to the box store there are 5 different types (poplar, pine, pvc, Styrofoam and MDF. Finally, what is the best way to attach them when there are steel studs? Thanks
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 9 ай бұрын
I like to use primed pine for all my flooring. I have used mdf but only if the customer has already bought it. I definitely don't use it in the bathroom as it can swell over time from water and moisture. If I am doing a floor where I have to match wood baseboard, then I would just use oak and stain to match. As far as attaching it, i us pl premium 3x, and I use an 18 gage brad nailer. It will pierce the metal as long as you don't hit the corner of the stud where the metal is thick. Then hit the top with some caulk, and you're all set. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

Just thought of two questions; 1) Do I have to glue the 1/4 round? Some day someone is going to want to change the flooring and if not glued then easy to remove and reuse verse damaging both the 1/4 round and base molding. 2) Nail going through the 1/4 round will not go into the metal studs only, but would go into both the metal bottom plate and the stud. Will 18 gauge go through both or do I miss the stud? Thanks @@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 9 ай бұрын
@dreid4760 I have used silicone before. You can try using that and then inch and a quarter or inches and a half nails. You can use 16 gauge but leave a bigger hole or you could still use 18 gauge. Just don't nail where there's a stud, then you can use 2 inch nails through the baseboard and bottom plate. Just a few different suggestions. Hope that helps

Hi. I love your channel. My question is what diablo blade do you use for your miter saw ? 40 ,or 60 tooth blade ?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 жыл бұрын
Either one of those are good. It also depends on what you doing. If you are doing crafts that require small piece then I would use a blade with more teeth. For much finer cuts. (They also make an 80 tooth blade)But if your doing like trim work, or bigger furniture pieces, mantles then 40 tooth should be fine. Especially if your sanding it and or painting your projects. Hope that helps. Great question. Thanks for the comment

Hi there can you do a video on how to install quarter round on a staircase coming down with laminated installed
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR Жыл бұрын
Generally you wouldn't put 1/4 round on steps. If you have small cracks you can caulk them ,but if you have big cracks I would try to use scribe mold or even a flat molding stained the same color. It looks more like it belongs. You can use 1/4 round but it usually doesnt look good unless done right. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

If your adjacent wall is not 90° say about 120° or 60°, do you still use 44° for the cut or is there different angle for long and short?

Here is why you confuse people. You call the corners two different things. Inside/outside and long/short. Stick to one term and your description of what to do will be more clear. Calling it short one time and inside the next time confuses people. You can call it blah if you want, but stick with a single term for the concept.

No. Not 1/4 round. I do with baseboard and crown molding. But I feel that this is such a small piece of trim and each time I cope, I lengthen th the time on the job. And time is money.
