The humour of this song is very British I think and I can understand why it might not resonate in other parts of the world. The same kind of humour as 'Lazing on a Sunday' or 'Seaside Rendevouz', silly cod English style. Ludicrous and gawdy but in my view another stroke of songwriting genius.

So the bike race was a publicity stunt for the album in typical over the top Queen style. The funny part is afterward the place they rented the bicycles from would not take the seats back so the band had to pay for them. This song is great, how can you not appreciate a top 10 song written by a guy in his bath tub in 5 minutes inspired by watching the tour de France on TV. Queen is all about fun and precision.

You guys are hilarious. This sounds so much like conversations about music with my wife also. She just doesn’t get the greatness sometimes. And the reason you don’t like movie music is….wait for it….. you don’t like movies.

It's a metaphor. About being an individual. Thinking for yourself, & doing your own thing. Not mindlessly following the herd. I want to ride my, bike. I want to ride it where I, like. Riding a bike is not literal in this instance. The rest of the song kind of lays that out. If you listen carefully.

You need to focus on the other parts of the lyrics besides the part that says I want to ride my bicycle. Look into the meaning of the lyrics.

Just have to say that wasn't a true bicycle race. I am pretty sure the women were concentrating on not falling more than winning.

I really loved this song when I first heard it on the radio. It was played a lot. Novelty songs were sometimes stupid sounding but this one wasn't.

I bought this lp as a teenager shortly after it was released and it came with a poster of all the naked bicyclists. I put it on my bedroom wall. My parents did not approve.

Queen's 1978 album 'Jazz' is an excellent record! IMHO, it is the last great entire Queen album.

As a kid I had the album 'Jazz' which this came from, the album came with a poster of all those lovely ladies on their bikes, That poster was on my wall much to my mums disgust!.

I love how they link Fat bottom girls and Bicycle race together. In each song they have mention the other song.

What's the point? Consider this was released by a major band in the 1970's. Queen was part of the sexual revolution. If you get it, you get it. If you didn't get it, you weren't meant to get it.

She’s right in that it IS very silly and over-the-top. And, it is far from great as a musical piece… but it is… fun. And that’s how it should be taken, as just a fun lark by a very creative band.
