Innuendo is mainly Freddie's song but credited to Queen. Freddie's voice is amazing, Brian's guitar work is brilliant and a flamenco part is Steve Howe's (from Yes) perfection. The message of the song is powerful and Innuendo is like a book cover of 👑 opus: Bohemian Rhapsody at the beginning and Innuendo at the end. It's a final epic masterpiece.

Innuendo requires more than one time hearing and watching: The more you listen to it the more layers and depths you discover and after that you are stunned, speechless and without a breath! 😮 One part is the music itself because there are multiple changes of tempo, instruments ... than there is the video whitch is a masterpiece itself (it won a Monitor Award for Best Achievement in Music Videos) and has also a lot of changes and when you absorbe that, there is the lyrics with dark haunting life and death / God or Higher power questions but also parts filled with hope ... Mindblowing.

There is a story how Steve Howe got to play at 👑 song: The band was in their recording studio in Montreaux, Switzerland recording the album in 1990, Steve Howe was in Geneva at that time and had a spontaneous ride to Montroux but didn't know Queen were at their studio. They knew and respected each other from 1971. Steve got to a restaurant for lunch where he was spotted by a tech who was a tech for Yes at the beginning but then adopted by Queen. He was surprised and excited to see Steve and invited him to visit the boys in a studio. After lunch Steve walked to the studio and found Freddie , Brian and Roger waiting for him. Steve said: "They were sitting there together. These guys were tight as a duck's arse. 🙃They said: Let us play you the album. I listened to I can't live without you, I'm Going Slightly Mad and they saved Innuendo till last. They played me the Innuendo and I was blown away. Then they dropped the bombshell: Do you want to play on the track? 😮 I was stunned and said that Brian has done a marvellous job. But Brian insisted: We want some crazy Spanish guitar flying around over the top! I've done some stuff there but on Spanish guitar I really don't improvise. Don't just sit on that thing, play right away across! ... So I chose one of three flamenco guitars they had and we doodled and noodled and I had thought that I've bitten more than I could chew! I had to learn some structure and I improvised... It took us a few hours. Then we went to dinner and when we got back we listened to that part and boys were amazed saying: That's great! That's what we wanted! 😮❤ ... and that was it. I drove back to Geneva and some days later I received their thank you letter and credits to the song!" ❤

@@gabrielcaprav Steve Howe and members of Queen knew and admired each other from early 1971 when Queen supported Yes at Kingston Polytechnic gig. 😮 Steve said that later they were all running into each other at studios and socially too. He also said that he likes bands that have camaraderie and Queen were a great example of that. He thought of them being down to earth and never looking down on anybody. All different personalities but very much a self-contained band. They were like family. Steve himself is a very humble and down to earth man and exceptional guitarist. He was so proud that he was the only guitarist that ever played on the Queen song. He spoke about Brian and the boys with a lot of admiration. ❤️

From what I read somewhere, Freddie and Roger worked on the lyrics for Innuendo and Brian was responsible for the arrangements. Freddie, under the influence of the album he had recorded with Montserrat Caballé, decided that the song would have a Spanish sound. In the video, each member of the band was portrayed as a great painter of history. Freddie was Leonardo da Vinci, Roger was Jackson Pollock, Brian was a craftsman from the Victorian empire and John was Pablo Picasso. Perhaps this explains why his face in the video is shown as a colorful painting. As a suggestion, next time you could react to "My life has been saved".

I was very young, I had started listening to music about two years ago and this song left me speechless, since this song I have been a Queen fan. Music has no limits, if you're as good as Queen. Howe played the Spanish guitar, they found him on a street in Switzerland. When the band asked him to add something like Paco de Lucía, he thought that he loved the song as it was, but maybe it would be a good idea to add that "De Lucía" part. When he started doing his job he got scared thinking that maybe he was destroying a wonderful song. In the end. Steve Howe always says that he's very, very proud of that part of the song. Freddie was very sick and that is the reason for the video. They use parts of videos from other albums and use 4 artists to characterize the band members. Freddie is Leonardo, Deacon is Picasso (I don't remember the others). I think the video won some awards. After the video, Freddie said that he didn't want it to end up as a cartoon and in the following videos he would appear in person, more or less characterized.

Actually the video fits the song. It depicts man's struggles, war, terrorism and also man's happiness. The Spanish guitar section shows a bit of history and a pyramid, which speaks of man's history of struggles that continues on and on. The operatic section tells us to be ourselves, encourage us to not be fake and be of courage. The last section and throughout the song is keep trying to be better people, don't give up, keep smiling and enjoy life because what will be will be. Thank you for the reaction. I love this song.

Queen number ones in UK where Bohemian Rhapsody ( Nov 1975) then Under Pressure (Nov 1981) followed by Innuendo ( Jan 1991) then Bohemian Rhapsody (Jan 1991). Face It Alone released in 2022 was the most downloaded song in the world for five days in a row and topped the iTunes download charts in 21 countries and number one on the UK Official Vinyl Singles Chart on 25 November 2022. The music was written by Freddie the lyrics were written by Freddie and Roger. The song started as a jam session in Switzerland amongst Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon in spring 1989. Freddie Mercury was upstairs and heard them playing the beat, and turned it into a song, creating the melody and starting off the lyrics. The song was edited to all the band as all the music on the Miracle album was. Freddie'a health was failing him by the time the was released hence the video style. Personally I think it's a masterpiece.

Innuendo is one of my favorites and in my opinion one of Queen’s best songs ever, the Bohemian Rhapsody of the 90s in a way. It changes a lot so it might take time to grow on you but at some point it does, and I think the video fits the message perfectly. At this point they were all sharing writing credits for the songs but it was written by Freddie & Roger. From the Innuendo album, one of my favorites too and Freddie’s very last album with Queen before he died, if you want to explore more from it; “The Show Must Go On”, “These Are The Days Of Our Lives” & “I’m Going Slightly Mad” all have great music videos you can check out along with the songs, though in all of these you can feel the sadness of Freddie’s last few months, they are must listens from Queen’s discography! Great song! Speaking in innuendo is when you say something indirectly - often of a hurtful or sexual nature. Innuendo in Latin means "to point to" or "nod to." When you refer to something indirectly, you point at it without mentioning it, making an innuendo.

Phenomenal! This is considered Bohemian Rhapsody's younger sister and "March of the black Queen" is considered the Older sister. Not only is Queen a band of geniuses that transcend everything imaginable and stand the test of time, but of deep, creative thinkers that border on (if not totally delve into) philosophical! Its really interesting and clever how they decided on which artist or artistic style each member of the band was illustrated in homage to: Freddie in homage to Leonardo Da Vinci, Dr. Sir Brian after victorian etchings, John in homage to Picasso, and Roger after Jackson Pollock.

Hi folks! Boy, it always gets great right at the end, yeah? When this came out, I couldn't believe it. The "old" Queen was back! Having no idea it was Freddie's tip of the hat on his way out the door. This whole record was stellar, but this one, batting leadoff no less, outshone anything they'd done musically, lyrically, maybe since the 70s. It made a world of difference when they started crediting all the songs to everyone. but we all knew who wrote what. The only song this compares to is Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir", which Robert Plant couldn't help dropping in to his performance of this song at the tribute show. (It was nice, but I think his ego made him do it. I think he was a little jealous.) When I play this one, and I play it a lot, I play it *loud*. Love you guys!

Please have a listen to "I'm going slightly mad" (beautiful low notes in this one). It's about Freddie's inner feelings on the progression of his disease. The video might seem a little disconcerting as it has been made in a burlesque way but to me Freddie found a clever way to express himself about what he was going through. But it's not self-pity at all and Brian said Freddie was brave and never complained about his health condition. Always a pleasure for me to see your videos !😃

Hey Mr. and Mrs. C., I really thought you would have loved this award-winning masterpiece... if you watch it again, I'm sure you will learn to appreciate the intricacies of its brilliance... Here is what Wikipedia had to say... "A very elaborate music video was created to accompany the single and released on 20 December 1990, combining stop motion animation with rotoscoping and featuring dolls in a detailed miniature cinema set. The band members only appear as illustrations and images, mainly taken from earlier Queen music videos (such as "The Miracle", "Scandal", "Breakthru", "The Invisible Man", "I Want It All", and clips from the then unreleased "Live at Wembley '1986"), on a cinema screen in the same manner as in the film Nineteen Eighty-Four, with Mercury drawn in the style of Leonardo da Vinci, May in the style of Victorian etchings, Taylor in the style of Jackson Pollock, and Deacon in the style of Pablo Picasso.[11] It also featured a montage of historical stock footages, including from both WWII and the Gulf War. The interlude of Flamenco music showed claymation figures of jesters performing, which were animated by Klaybow Films. The video received heavy rotation on MTV Europe[12] and won production company DoRo (who also produced the videos to all other singles from the Innuendo album) a Monitor Award for Best Achievement in Music Video." Some people refer to this song as the third masterpiece in the trilogy of masterpieces that are Queen... the first being "The March of the Black Queen", then "Bohemian Rhapsody" and then "Innuendo"... although I believe Brian's "The Prophet's Song" is the most underrated song and should be included in their great masterpieces in its own right... such brilliance in musical artistry is almost beyond comprehension... love and blessings to all.

I do agree with your view regarding John Deacons portrail on the video. This is song is like Bohemian Raphsody with regard it seems to be a mix up of songs rolled into one song. This is my insight about it.

Hello guys, first time commenting on your channel, hope all is going well there! Innuendo was the last work the whole group recorded together. As for the video, I recall hearing in some interviews with Peter Freestone (Freddie's personal assistant) that Freddie did not want to be remembered with a last video as a sort of puppet or animation, so then they recorded the very last and emotional one "These are the days of our lives" which was the very last one, and as a farewell with one last message to Queen fans at the end of it. Also, another very powerful song on this very same album is "The Show Must go on" I think that one has the most powerful vocals from Freddie. May I suggest a song Coach will also probably like, "Princes of the Universe", you need to check that one out, Brian is not using his usual Red Special on that one. Much love from Spain!

P.S. The band are done from composites of earlier videos as Freddie was way too sick to be on camera at this late date. That was the way John looked in, oh, I think it was one of those "Magic" videos. My memory these days. Anyway, all those came from past videos.

I love early Queen, I love late Queen (in fact Innuendo, Show must go on and Mother Love are all late Queen and imo great songs). But it is true. Even I as a die-hard fan have difficulties to like certain Queen songs. But it is only a handful that I cannot listen to at all. Since 1988 Queen is my passion.

Looking at mrs coach's face at the beggining reminded me being 11 again. hearing this song for the first time felt eary ( i cant spell this word meaning wired or creepy), and I decided to take 3 days off of it just to calm my ear down and get back to it. Then I fell inlove with it and couldn't realise why in the first place I wasn't. So I get her very much. You guys put too much emphasis on the vids. this vid was done this way because of Freddie's illness. they had to decide what vids they would trouble fred with and which one they would do some art. and so this was ground bracking at the time of it's creation and won the golden vid or golden camera at the time for this interesting artsy thing. To me the theatre with puppets is the only thing that matters in the vid. it is a simble of how we are all puppets in the theatre just being "dictated by tradition, superstition, false religion" "While we live according to race, colour or creed While we rule by blind madness and pure greed" So that's it. the rest is nice art made for the Innuendo album that is very interesting if you will ever see it's cover, and the different art on the boys to me may represent the art of different artinst. John is lucky coz he got the great Picasso, so I don´t know why one would complain about it. so I guess one is maybe matis, one is van gough and so on. Art was alsways part of Queen. Freddie created the famous emblem with the eagle and the band´s 4 different signs, he was an art major. They had a beautigul painted cover in 1977 news of the world. which you guys can see animated if you ever do the official video of äll dead all dead", and they had art on the 1982 cover, 1986 magic had them charicturated.. so art and Queen go hand in hand together. By the way I don't think you guys did "save me", it is the best lookin Queen video ever. So in case you read me again, would you do me the honnor of recting to it? It is also an amazing song. This album was released in February 1991, as you guys know freddie died november 24th 1991 so this and the "Greatest Hits 2" are the last Queen album to be released on the time he was still alive. On this album he aprears on 3 videos, Headlong that I think was taken still in 1990. I'm going slightly mad, taken I think in Fevruary 1991 and the last fred vid which you guys recently did, The days of our lives that was taken in May 1991. The show must go on clip also has snipits of shows and clips from the 80's up to 1991. To me this song is the late equivilant ot Bohemian Rhapsody. It is also over 6 minutes, it is made of different parts, going through different moods, and is also pretty comlex. so I think these are the 2 mega songs done in 2 seperate eras. You sharp ears people can also hear how clean freddie's voice is by the time he recorded Innuendo. Very clean and easily get's to the highest notes of his voice. there are several reasons for this but interestingly enough freddie stopped smoking in early 1987. and I think the clearness of his voice in this album recorded in 1990 reflects that. The End of time note is an increddible Eb high tone, one of the highest tones ever sung by a male artist, arguably the highst tone Freddie was capable of in regular voice. And he does is so effortlesly.. it is an increddible peice and really, take less notice of the video and listen more to the song. If you listen to it 5-6 times you will feel incredible about it. The vid is just a vid.

Have read up on Peter Green & his life, BB King once said he wept when he heard PG play as he was the only white man to understand the Blues & put heart into it. Then please react to Fleetwood Mac's "Man of the World"... P.S. it was Peter Green (Greenbaum) that wrote Albatross!

“Innuendo” is the opening track and lead single of Queen’s final album before Freddie's death. The song, partially inspired by Led Zeppelin’s song Kashmir as well as Freddie’s illness, deals with mankind’s inability to live with each other and constant search for meaning. The song began as a jam session in Switzerland amongst Brian, Roger, and John in the spring of 1989. Roger called it "Big, long, and pretentious! It goes through a lot of changes." Then he added, "It was a group collaboration, but I wrote the lyrics. I think the lyrics were mine, and the rest of it was the band. It was a group effort." Brian is quoted as saying, "I think ‘Innuendo’ was one of those things which could either be big - or nothing. We had the same feelings about Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s a risk, because a lot of people say, ‘It’s too long, it’s too involved, and we don’t want to play it on the radio.’ I think that could be a problem in which case it will die. Or it could happen that people say, ‘This is interesting and new and different’, and we’ll take a chance." " [The song] started off as most things do, with us just messing around and finding a groove that sounded nice. All of us worked on the arrangement. Freddie started off the theme of the words as he was singing along, then Roger worked on the rest of them. I worked on some of the arrangement, particularly the middle bit, then there was an extra part that Freddie did for the middle as well. It basically came together like a jigsaw puzzle." "It’s got the bolero-type rhythm, a very strange track. That’s going to be the first single here. It’s a bit of a risk, but it’s different, and you either win it all or you lose it all. It had a nice sound and feel, and we stuck with that. The Spanish motif is suggested from the start: those little riffs at the beginning are sort of Bolero-esque. It seemed like the natural thing to explore those ideas on an acoustic guitar, and it just gradually evolved. Steve Howe helped out and did a fantastic job. We love all that stuff - it’s like a little fantasy land adventure." FYI - Steve Howe played the Spanish part of the song. As Brian said, "[Steve] just happened to be around in Switzerland, when we were working and he just dropped in. We were working on this little Spanish guitar piece in the middle. He’s very good at that sort of stuff, so instantly it seemed like a good idea to get him in to play all the stuff that I can’t play."

The Spanish contents in this track are multi-layered. Picaso, of course, the black & white Catalan Sardanas dancers, and the later flamenco. The animated figures are forming human pyramids as is done in Spain to this day. Sardanas are the characteristic dances in Barcelona - forever associated with Freddie.

It's also the only song where somebody other than Brian May played guitar. The Flamenco part is played by Steve Howe of Yes and Asia. The most under-rated song by Queen is on the same album as Bohemian Rhapsody, so it's practically unknown. Written by Brian May, as his magnum opus, I consider it to be an equal to BoRhap. It's called The Prophet's Song, and is simply one of the greatest songs ever performed. There isn't an adequate live video for it, but the studio version is very much a "need to listen" because it is one the the greatest songs ever written. They played it live a few times, then hijacked the "echo" part to use in the middle of "White Man" from their "A Day At The Races" album, which immediately followed. Queen proudly claimed "No Synthesizers Used" on each album up to "The Game", where they broke that trend. Another fun reaction.

Not strictly true, it’d be more accurate to say it’s the only song with a guitar solo by someone from outside the band. There are a couple of songs (such as Cool Cat) where Brian doesn’t play, and John Deacon plays all the guitars.

I know this is considered to be the big brother to Bo rap. Bo rap was very much about self this is about others. What a voice of a dying man , amazing. They had to release different video content for each area of the world. I think this is the British version. I love this song and album made in very difficult situation, Freddie by this stage could hardly stand or sing for very long, the group took it at his pace, doing what they could with the music while Freddie slept in a bed made up in a room in the studio complex

Freddie was seriously ill by this time, and died less than a year after the single's release, so although he still had all the wonderful power in his beautiful voice, his body was failing him badly, which is why the video was largely made up of flashback images and little models.... I have to admit it's not one of my favourite Queen songs, but I listen frequently anyway, for the nostalgia vibe... I think your commenter must have forgotten that Under Pressure went to number one between Bo Rhap and Innuendo, The solo flamenco guitar was played by Steve Howe... who needed serious persuasion before he could accept that they really wanted him to play on a Queen release...
