A very well designed video. It was not long ago. Shows how fast the world is changing in materialism, grace and honour and what we the people paid to loose what we had for what we have today.

The dresses must have been agony to wear - so tightly corseted to create that tiny waist. I actually find Maud a very interesting character and her face is a beautiful one. That Aquiline nose is wonderful .

Fun Fact for the Coronation: Her grandson King Harald V of Norway is the King most closely related to King Charles III.
@ladythalia227
@ladythalia227 Жыл бұрын
And King Charles is named after king Haakon, the husband of Maud. His birth name was Carl of Denmark and queen Elizabeth referred to him as uncle Charles (though he was her grand uncle) He was also Charles’ godfather. Elizabeth and Haakon were by all account very close, and they visited each other every year.

Their only son; the future King Olav V of Norway was born in Sandringham and at birth he was 11th in line of the British throne after his cousins, aunts and mother. He was the second last grandchildren of King Edward VII.

What an interesting video! I learn more of our history from KZfaq than I ever did at school. My mother's name was Maud too... it seems to have gone out of fashion. These days I know of more pleasure-boats named Maud than I do ladies. :( Those corsets must have been such agony to wear... happy days :) Nice work again!

Maud is a beautiful name, I still have many years before I have children, but I've loved the name Maud ever since I read about this Maud. Perhaps someday with a daughter I can make this name new again :) Thank you for sharing that with me, you must make her so proud, it's such a lovely name, I'm surprised it hasn't remained a relevant name through time. Those corsets, sometimes I wish I were from the past and then I remember the corsets! haha Thanks again!

Maud is a name of English and Irish origin but it sounds like nothing in most other European languages. Now, if you go with names like Alexandra, Violet, Mary, Anne, Victoria, Helen, Roberta Etc. there are better chances for people from other countries to like the name too. 🎉

It exists in danish too, spelled Maude. And yes these other names may be more common, but the pronunciation of them differs from one country to another.

King Olaf was born a Prince Alexander. Maud’s nickname was ‘Harry’ as she was a tomboy. She fell in love - rather was infatuated with - her cousin Prince Frederick of Tek. But he had no interest in her - Thank God, cause he was a wastrel.

This song is lovely, I will surely do so! You never know when you'd need those! haha! Some ladies these days sadly need reviving because of their intake of vodka and lemonade. A sad reality. But I cannot imagine anyone wanting to throw up on you! You're too kind for that! aha

They married their cousins a lot back then. Those girls weren't pretty at all. She seemed like one of the few that had a happy marriage. I think she didn't want to leave England she loved it so much her father gave her a house in England as a wedding present that she loved for the rest of her life.

Aww, that is true, England is a wonderful place so I don't blame her haha. Their marriage definitely did improve after they sought fertility treatments and had their son.
@paigecat9104

+adena539 Wow fertility treatments didn't know they had that then wonder what the treatment was. Her mother had no prob HV kids wonder if she had pcos. which I have and can cause infertility cystic ovaries. I think she reminds me of a grayhound dog lean and streamlined. I'm glad people don't marry cousins anymore in the west. I think that's why do many defects were born into these royal families. I HV 7 first cousins 9 in all including me and brother him and two other cousins are men I was raised around them my whole life they are like brothers if they had married me or another cousin shit wld hit the fan my whole family would have been devastated about this & would be discouraged to do this. But they didn't know each other that much and makes a difference bk then. She died too early seemed like a sweet petite little woman.
@adena539
@adena539 8 жыл бұрын
+Paige Cat I had the same reaction! I thought it fertility treatment was much later in time as well. I'm assuming it wasn't anything too difficult to treat, it could've been something as little as irregular cycles and getting the timing right. Yes, she was such a sweet woman to all that knew her. Yea back then things were very different. I'd never be able to even view a cousin as a potential spouse.
@paigecat9104
@paigecat9104 8 жыл бұрын
adena539 Me either. My cousins are like brothers to me and today we know so much more about the genetic complications that come from well inbreeding. Like on a episode of That 70's Show Eric thought his female cousin was adopted and she said that to get back at him and his parents caught him down in the basement in pjs with her and Red said I don't want any flipper grandchildren lol. It's like Elvis Presley had a double first cousin Patsy Presley both were only children his twin Jesse Garron was stillborn so he has a brother in heaven but they were raised like brother and sister her parents were his parents siblings his father her father brothers his mother her mother sisters and I was curious about the genetics there and they said that they were like half brother and sister in DNA so if they married and had children those children could have had defects. But they didn't look at each other that way they were really brother and sister and he took care of her and her husband he took care of everybody. He never wanted anyone to take care of him and I think he felt some type of guilt over his fame never could figure out why he was put in this position of fame. I'd say Maud wasn't around her cousin all that much and they did marry their cousins in that family and inbred. I think that's why most of them weren't that attractive a few were but some whoa. I don't mean to be mean that sound redundant doesn't it? I know maud was happy when her father gave her this house she never wanted to leave England. I read a book about Queen Victoria's granddaughters who became Queens in Europe and she was one of them in the book mentioned. That's why I know these things when I read that book and it was so good and interesting. Really out of all the granddaughters she had it easy because the other's had political turmoil in their adopted countries Alexandria Russia murdered and her sister Ella and Sophie who married in Greece their family was overturned but lives spared. Forgot the one that was Queen in Romania her name escapes me but they lost the crown eventually her oldest son was horrible to her. Maud didn't have to endure these things and she had a sweet husband. So did Alexandria Nicholas was in love with her but they weren't that bright and made horrible mistakes he even said after he became Czar when his father died that he didn't want to be Czar and wasn't prepared for it his father died only in his 50's. Nicholas was too gentle natured man to be a autocrat too kind and sweet natured and didn't have the savvy to be a autocrat he made wrong choices and he wasn't mean enough to do the job. If he had become just a figure head and let the Duma run the country he wouldn't have been killed by the Bolsheviks in my opinion. His kids didn't deserve that horrible death they were innocent and killed based on birth. So sad. You know you don't hear of girls being named Maud that much very old fashion name I just remember the TV show back in the 70's called Maud but didn't watch it my parents weren't into it. I was born in'71.

Gods save the Queen of Norway.

Thank you! It has been a long time hasn't it? I'm well! I hope you are too. I always wondered if her fertility struggles lead to anxiety even after having her son. A woman in this era would identify greatly with their maternity, perhaps thats why she was often so sad?

+adena539 - Perhaps...but she was probably just tired of the restrictions and publicity that went along with her title...I assume. She doesn't smile in her photos very often, but she smiled more than Alexandra Romanov. I think I've only seen 1 photo where Empress Alexandra had a small smile...but I think she suffered from more physical pain than people realize, due to certain medical issues. Anyways...have a great new day!
@adena539

+Helen Keller I agree about the publicity, it must have been difficult. Really? I have seen many smiling Alexandra photos. Even in a video clip she smiled toward the crowd. They take after their grandmother for sure. Queen Elizabeth II barely smiles as much as Queen Margrethe II. Some people just lack the warmth that others were blessed with.

+adena539 - You've probably seen more photos etc... of Empress Alexandra Romanov than I have. Several years ago I started out on youtube as a "Romanov Fan" but I made the mistake of making a video that portrayed Fr. Grigori Rasputin in a GOOD light. After that I was ostracized by the "Romanov Fan" community on youtube...so I became a "Helen Keller Fan". Some people are very touchy about the "Rasputin issue". Oh well...such is life :)

If you ever call your daughter Maud, be sure to sing her this song: /watch?v=AvwW276v_gw (They just don't sing 'em like that anymore!) I still carry a bottle of smelling salts in my pocket in case I should happen across a lady who needs reviving, having been overcome by her corset. Alas, I have found most dear ladies are more likely to be overcome by vodka and lemonade these days, whereupon smelling salts would have them throw-up all over me. :)

This system works for England. and the UK, God Bless! Tradition in everything is important in human lives. As a Canadian, I'd prefer this to continue here too. Especially viewing that our absence of monarchy might lead to the trumpist manure fumes emanating from our southern border. Why change the name to Haakon? Many norwegians gad the name Carl at that time. In my fam too. I suppose to make him more "norwegian". But he wasnt. He was Danish. She was british. Very strange indeed. We gave royal not from our country.. Only those married into it from the people made the royals somewhat norwegian. Or swedish.. etc.. I think people are fooled to think theres a choise. We dont have any. Its pushed upon us from the start. No voting was done.
