Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Tate was born in 1959, so he was 25 in 1984. He is no longer with Queensryche, but he still does solo albums. Queensryche is still around too, their current singer, Todd La Torre is a really good singer too.

Geoff Tate might be the best singer in metal, any other genre isn't even at the same level. The musicianship is top notch, the guitar solos are always excellent and the two compliment each other well. The drummer has such a ggod sound and the bass player locks on to produce that thunderous bottom. World class in every respect.

It is all a matter of opinion, but base in range and his live vocals I believe he is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. I am a huge fan of Bruce but he doesn’t have Tate’s range on the low end and Bruce’s vocal aren’t as clean and “perfect “ live. If you want other live concerts listen to MTV’s Queensryche unplugged in 1992 (I will remember”) and the Operation Live Crime performance, especially Suite Sister Marry.

I grew up in Bellevue around these guys, Jeff was a "good" singer with a band called Myth, then he spent a summer getting voice lesssons with one of the best teachers, and Jeff came back an "amazing" singer, we were all blown away, it took him awhile to commit to Queensryche, he thought Myth would be the big band! Great reaction of my favorite band (even if you bust on the Pink Floyd vibes in Silent Lucidity 😂)! Pink Floyd was their favorite band so it is more of an homage to their favorite band. This song was the encore of the Tokyo concert that you watched for your “Take Hold of the Flame” reaction video. I think Geoff Tate is the absolute greatest of all-time keeping in mind this performance was after a full night of live singing. Believe Roads to Madness should be next and the entire Operation Mindcrime as a live stream since it tells a story that really should be heard from beginning to end to fully understand it.

Queensryche was influenced by Pink Floyd, but they are no rip offs. And Pink Floyd wasn't their only influence. They're their own band with a wide range of music. Their music is very diverse. Geoff Tates voice is Diverse, no way David Gilmour of Pink Floyd can sing like him.

Bruce Dickinson had one of the best “studio” voices. Geoff Tate is a progressive Metal God and real talent … he not only had by far the best studio voice but has the best “Live” voice in the history of metal. If you are going to compare him to Bruce well sorry guys Geoff Tate wins by a long shot. Bruce has never performed at the same level Live. I don’t know of anyone not even Ronnie James Dio that could do what Tate does Live. Geoff Tate’s voice is the best voice Metal has ever had. Thank you guys for taking a peek at the best progressive metal band ever. You have to watch the Live performance “Blinded and the Lady wore Black” and from their warning album “Roads to Madness” … and from their Rage for Order album, “walk in the shadows” “The Whisper”and “Chemical Youth”.

Not a band I had heard of until I started watching reaction channels (Kel N' Rich) on KZfaq. The singer is Geoff Tate (I can see the comparison with Bruce Dickinson) and they still seem to be running in 2022 from the discography on Wiki. Started in 1982 Bellevue, Washington - a place I actually know because I stayed there one night while visiting Seattle, and Vancouver BC the next day, back in 1982 as it happens. Queen Of The Reich was their first single and only charted in the UK at #94, which would explain how it flew under my radar (only the Top 40 got played on the radio chart rundown every Sunday and Top Of The Pops on TV). Their biggest hit on both sides of the Atlantic was Silent Lucidity in 1990 (#9 in USA, #18 in UK). Great song and reaction. I think I'm awake now, so thanks for that!

OK, I'm about to drop some serious knowledge on you two. This is no knock on Bruce Dickinson but I have seen Iron Maiden several times and they are excellent live but half way through the show (from the late 80s on) Bruce's voice is not what he started the show with nor does he hit many of the high notes as in the studio versions. I know Maiden fans will hate this and I will catch hell saying it but it is true. That said, this video will actually blow your mind even more when you learn this. This was the last song of their SECOND SHOW that day and Geoff Tate was still hitting those high notes with total ease and precision. Yes, that is a fact. This video and the "Take Hold of the Flame" video that's live in Tokyo were both filmed during their SECOND SHOW of the day and I think there is a video of "The Lady wore Black" from the same show. Amazing vocal prowess and quite simply put, Bruce could NEVER do that. I think if you guys dig a bit deeper into this band you will see that they are just far superior to every other Metal Band of that era. The vocals, musicianship, song writing and their energy live were second to none. May I suggest something from the "Rage for Order" album (The Whisper or Surgical Strike) or maybe Suite Sister Mary from the "Operation Mindcrime" album. The Operation Mindcrime experience is more of an Album Play reaction because it tells a story song by song but I'll leave that to you guys. Great reaction by the way. Peace and Be Well. KMM

They took the twin duel guitar attack from Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden. They started out a Metal band for their first EP which this song was on and their 2nd release which was their first full length album called the warning. Then they went in a hard rock/new wave direction with their next release Rage for Order then the did the prog metal concept album theme for the next two albums Operation Mindcrime and Empire where they were a cross between Pink Floyd and Iron maiden. They became huge on MTV and started headling areas buy 1990/91 which was hard to do at that time with the grunge explosion that practically wiped out metal all together for a while

Definitely “Silent Lucidity”. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, just an observation. Still love the song though. Silent Lucidity remains as one of my favorite “ballad” type songs -Ethan

Silent Lucidity is about as much pink floyd as master of puppets is david bowie. You sir, are confusing standard scales and chords as plagiarism. Lol

Great reaction guys. Larry I was looking at you during this song and I thought, oh no Larry isn't impressed, but after the video, I was pleasantly surprised. Don't forget Helloween's singer Michael Kiske for great metal singers, I recall you were both impressed with him. Geoff Tate is no longer in Queensryche but his replacement Todd La Torre, is just as impressive as Geoff. One more thing, Geoff Tate is still touring, and he's coming to our town next June, so I'll be there.

Geoff Tate is still going! Unfortunately , he’s not with Queensrÿche anymore, they had an ugly split about a decade ago. He’s absolutely one of the best metal singers ever, to me only Rob Halford and Dio are better. You’ll have to hit “Roads to Madness” (studio), an absolute magnum opus for Geoff’s singing. “The Lady Wore Black“ and “Walk in the Shadows” are also great. Cheers guys!

First off, Geoff Tate went beyond Bruce Dickinson and I'm a major Bruce/Iron Maiden fan. My opinion of course. This is the song that defined Queensryche and put them on the map, and yes his style is comparable to Bruce Dickinson. They started as a traditional metal band and went on to progressive metal, peaking with the album Operation Mindcrime, which you reacted to and both enjoyed (Eyes of a Stranger). Their next two albums after Mindcrime were ok IMO but went totally downhill from there. Rumors of Geoff Tate not being a fan of the genre anymore, along with the departure of guitarist Chris DeGarmo took an impact on the creativity and songwriting of the band. Fortunately Queensryche still performs and releases new music with new singer Todd La Torre an excellent singer capable of handling the early recordings of Queensryche. The same cannot be said for Geoff. He cannot do those notes anymore. If you want to know who Queensryche is, listen to the first 4 albums (the first being the band's debut EP). They pioneered progressive metal.

I'll add here that this song was written by Chris DeGarmo before Tate joined the band (though i am sure Tate must have made some of it his own with his vocal style and ability) :)

They don't sound like Pink Floyd not even close Pink Floyd is good but the singer for Pink Floyd doesn't even come close to having as many octaves in his voice as the singer for queensryche so no they don't sound like Pink Floyd and besides Pink Floyd doesn't even hit those really high notes in any of there songs

@@fatherandsonreactions None at all. That is a singular perception pulled from your experience. Although all people and bands pull from their listening habits it is more likely they came from the mindset of Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Definitely Iron Madden.
