Same concert they introduced " Take hold of the flame : and Chris Degarmo hit some notes as high as Geoff Tate , Tate hit an E-5 at least 5 times I believe . Just incredible .....

Yeah, Chris's harmonies would many times take him above Geoff, but I don't think he got quite as high as E5. Chris has a very nice voice ("All I Want") but doesn't have the power and energy of Geoff''s. Nothing against Chris though! He's a killer songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and harmonizer!! And all around nice guy.

Geoff Tate is an amazing singer 🤟 He was invited to sing in the last Avantasia album (and has joined their live touring crew). There he has a lead song that reminds me of this era of Queensryche. The song is called Alchemy, if you want to give it a try :) Cheers from Chile 🥳

Kim Harris (Queensryche's manager) told a curious anecdote in an interview years ago. When recalling Queensryche's stint opening for Iron Maiden at Radio City Music Hall in 1985, Harris revealed that singer Bruce Dickinson appeared intimidated at the vocal range of Geoff Tate. “Bruce was knocked out,” Harris said. “He was actually pissed when he saw the band play. He was standing on the side of the stage with me, and he had daggers in his eyes when he heard Geoff hit those high notes. … [I]t scared him that Geoff could hit them so easily. This guy was killing his voice every night and Geoff was just singing away.”

Not surprising at all. I did stand up in my early days and it would get catty if someone killed, especially an opener. I'd put Geoff's vocals in the Top 5 of the 80's and Top 10 of Rock. And I'm not that big of a Queensryche fan, but one can't deny the power of those vocals. Cheers! Eric

My friends and I were big Priest, Maiden, Triumph, Rush etc., etc., fans (as well as lots of other music) at the time Queensryche released their EP. Queensryche took what Priest and Maiden did, and upped it a couple of notches. They were extraordinary at the time. I'm still astounded every time I watch and listen to them from these days. I actually caught the very tour featured in this video at L'amour in Brooklyn. The band was even wearing the same outfits, and yes - they sounded exactly like this.

Your reaction to "my guys" has been immensely satisfying! Thank you for your very insightful and enthusiastic comments! I agree with everything you said!! It's nice to hear when someone really appreciates what Queensryche was, and could do! Scott Rockenfield was a BEAST on those drums, and along with Eddie on bass, WOW! I CONCUR about Chris and Michael's guitar tone and the beauty of those twin guitars! Back to back! Then there's GEOFF! I could go on forever about the quality of his voice, range, tone, pitch, vibrato, power, intensity, and expression, but there's not enough room here to do so. YOU know what I mean! I've seen them live (mostly in the 90's) and as you said, I have NEVER seen better live performances than theirs! As you said "stupid good!!" Really enjoyed listening to YOUR wonderful voice ( you still got it) praising my favorite band in the multiverse (original lineup)!! Thanks again! 😝

Also, wasn't this before bands had the ability to use an earpiece to enable them to hear themselves? I know they used to have amps on the front edge of the stage pointing back at them to help with that, BUT even so, Geoff ALWAYS hits all the notes! How is he so good?? I can't recall ever hearing him off key, as can happen occasionally, or miss a note! Such a tight and talented band!

I've thought about doing a version of a "reaction" but more of a "Please Allow Me to Introduce This Song". I've done other vids of older tunes and why those songs are important. But I feel folks need to be reminded why 1965 to 1995 is the greatest period of music in the past 300 years. A lot of great stuff has been lost to the zeitgeist and nostalgia. Cheers! Eric

Yes, people are always talking about Halford and Dickinson when talking of 80s metal vocalists. However, there are numorous singers from the 80s and 90s that are not shown enough love. I´m thinking of Geoff Tate, as demonstrated here, Jon Oliva of Savatage, one of my personal favourites, Sebastian Bach of Skid Row and Tony Martin of Black Sabbath and Ian Gillan of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath ,- just to name a few- all amazing tenors who deserve to be given much more attention by the metal community. Btw. I´m still hoping for you to react to Universal Death Squad by Epica, Burning Bridges by Delain and House Of Mirrors by Arch Enemy. Epica just to hear them rock out in a way that I think even Nightwish would have to rise early to follow. Delain just because Charlotte Wessels is an awesome vocalist. Arch Enemy just because Alissa white-Gluz is a monster vocalist and it´s the perfect three minute modern metal pop song,- and there´s nothing poppy about it. All three song are official videos,- as far as I know they don´t exist in live versions outside crappy phonecam recordings,- and those are not really worth watching let alone listening to,- but it should make no difference,- they are all mindblowingly good. Epica: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hsWJpsKInN-3m4E.html&ab_channel=EPICA Delain: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hdZ6ZNCSmK-UcZs.html&ab_channel=NapalmRecords Arch Enemy: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z6qmd82Wt9mRj6M.html&ab_channel=ArchEnemy Enjoy.

Your thoughts on 80s metal up until grunge ruined it all, is exactly how I feel. Needs to be staged presents interaction between two guitarists and have actual talented vocals like the 80s, twin solos, and it is a show so..... some form of not really costume but stage presence and of course massive drum kits and the frontman like Geoff Tate is the perfect formula. Nowadays there's no guitar solos practically and a bunch of growling and really not that many virtuosos in guitars or vocals like in the 80s..... oh yes, the 80s was the best decade in metal

DeGarmo wrote the bulk of the music, so he got the lion's share of the solos...but i have ALWAYS contended that Whip was the better of the two guitarists.
