Kudos to the rider and her mates who managed to contain a young horse's energy while on duty! I have every faith that the comfort of the horse is paramount and that the rider knows perfectly well how to use (and not abuse) the bit. Did you notice she has very soft hands and barely resists the horse at all? These are ceremonial horses: it's their job. They have to be trained to the work and exposed to many situations over the long term in order to make them 'bomb proof'. While the *idea* of a bitless bridle might be attractive to some, the reality is that the horse is working at close quarters with the public and the rider needs to have complete and absolute control of it. Before you say 'it's time they didn't use horses for this work' - just ask yourself what would happen to all the military horses who would lose their jobs. While we all know that horses *evolved* to 'run wild and free', the fact is they can't any more. If you want horses to remain relevant in this modern world, they need to have jobs. For myself, I'd much rather see a lovely thoroughbred carefully and sensitively trained to ceremonial work rather than being ridden at speed on a racetrack for most of its young life and then being tossed aside like rubbish. And then there's rodeos and the bull-ring...

To be fair to the horse...the horse is not playing up as the title says...it's a horse just being a horse trying to cope with the heat and having to stand still for hours...with having someone hanging on it's bit!! These are the Kings Troop Regiment standing in for a month whilst the Household Cavalry soldiers and horses are off on their well deserved summer vacation. The Kings Troop horses are not used to standing still for long hours like you see the HHC do ...but the cope as best they can...it was good the female soldier tried to come out and calm the horse... a looser rein from the rider and if the girl stopped hanging onto the bridle would have eased pressure on the bit causing less pain and discomfort to the horse. The horse is not 'playing up'! If you look closely there is a wasp buzzing around the horse. If you look at other videos on this site - this is not the first horse to complain of wasps in these guard-posts! Good to see that the young woman on the ground was quick to see if she could settle the horse - but both she and the horse's rider should then have looked around to see whether this horse's behaviour was more than just a case of 'first time nerves'. These are supposed to be very good-natured and very well-trained horses and it it really important for a rider to pay close attention to their horse and not just pre-judge the reason for the horse's behaviour. When people rode horses into war they depended on their horses to keep them safe and the riders were trained to watch closely when their horse signalled the approach of any danger. Horses have sharp eyes, mobile ears, and a great sense of self-preservation. As 'prey animals' they are very good at avoiding trouble of any kind! I'm thinking that it would be a great time to get a wasp exterminator out to those guard boxes to find out where the nest of wasps is!

A curb bit is a leverage bit, meaning that it multiplies the pressure applied by the rider. If a bit is causing pain or discomfort, communication breaks down and your horse’s performance, as well as his mouth, suffers. The biggest problem causing bit pain doesn’t necessarily have to do with the type of bit used or the specific horse. The problem, whether through lack of experience, frustration, or deliberate abuse, is often in the rider’s hands.

Well it certainly does not prevent the horses from tossing their heads now does it. These artificial gadgets are unnecessary if the horse is properly trained and the rider is sufficiently skilled. If a horse tosses their head back and bops the rider in the face, it could cause a broken nose, a dislocated jaw, and even knock the rider's ass out cold. All easily avoidable with proper training, which the British army seems quite incapable of.

Perhaps the horse is trying to get feeling back in his face. Sometimes nose bands cut off circulation to the face creating numbness. The horse then rubs its face to regain feeling. The head tossing may be a shake awake.

Standards have dropped somewhat since I completed my 22. Those two 'creatures' in the MTP camo need to get their hair up into a tight bun, the only ponytails on parade should be on the horses.

Horses are not meant to be forced to stand on concrete all day long. Horses naturally graze 16 to 18 hours a day and they like to be together they are herd animals. They also don't like confined spaces. Making them stand there with too much metal in their mouth also is aggravating for that horse. Horses have different shaped mouths inside some horses have low pallets some have high pallets. This is old-fashioned treatment of horses where you just stuff the bits that you've been using for hundreds of years into their mouths without considering whether the bit is comfortable in the first place. The other thing is horses stomachs produce acid on a continual basis. This is because they're meant to be a grazing animal and they are meant to eat all day long. People produce acid when we eat not all day long. So you have a horse that's standing there unable to graze or eat and his stomach is continuously pumping acid. This horse guard stuff is stupid it doesn't take into account how the horse is feeling physically it doesn't take into account the animal not wanting to be in that confined space so it's ignoring his mental well-being. The whole thing is not in the horses favor or best interests. You're expecting that animal to stand there for I don't know how many hours the heavy weight on his back in a confined space that they don't like with nothing to eat. You're separating him from the other horses and they don't like that either they instinctively want to be together. I'm surprised that some of these guards haven't been launched off of these horses backs. These horses are long suffering and putting up with way too much and after a while they figure out if I act up enough I'll get taken back inside. Back inside isn't a whole lot better but at least they get the rider off their back and they don't have to stand there. Why is back inside not a whole lot better I've seen some of the Queens stables the horses are in what are known as tie stalls so they're forced to stare at a wall all day. Because they are tied in a row and they're facing a wall. Once again they can't raise they get fed a certain amount of hay per day and they're stuck standing there. This is why horses get stomach ulcers can you imagine being forced to stand there for I don't know how many hours with your stomach burning. With various temperatures having a weight on your back and having a bit that may not fit your mouth stuffed in your mouth. Stand there all day what you're seeing is a horse saying I'm not doing this today and I know how to get out of it and I don't blame them and good for the horse.

It's an hour before they are taken back in what about when there is a Royal ceremony they stand there longer then they are trained to do this job and they stand linger in a field the guard and horse are together for most of their working lives so read up about what goes on and how the horses are treated before you spout off such rubbish

I would love to see the bits used on all Of these horses! EVERY last one Of Them is always throwing its head up. Like the bit is causing Them a ton Of pain!!! It is very commonly seen in these vids.Plus in many Of the vids the horses entire tongue is hanging to the side outside Of the mouth. The tongues are From deep gray to purple. Indicating that there is a horrible luck Of oxygen to the tongue. Yes, it Will hurt like hell. It very much saddens Me…….
