And just think, Queen were once referred to, as inventing hip hop :) So much music we have today, not just in rock or metal, but a vast majority with harmonies of grandeur in classical, and hip hop etc, Queen bridged everything, and brought into existence a new meaning of music that'll never die. some say they were one of the most important bands from the 70's & 80's, but I say, that still, to this day, they are THEE most important of all time, literally no other artist/ group on earth has had the influence that they have, and in my opinion never will. Freddie was a true force of nature and I guarantee the angels bow before him now in heaven :) Freddie & my father are the only reason I believe there must be some god of some sort, some sort of afterlife, and the only reason I don't fear death myself, knowing people like that will be there. God bless you and keep you JB.

Great reaction. I suggest you watch the version sung by Brian May. The song was initially about Brian's first marriage falling apart and impending divorce. he was in a dark place and fell in love with and started an affair with actress Anita Dobson, who would eventually become his second wife, and they are still married today. It was first recorded by Queen around or before 1988, and was intended to be on the band's The Miracle album in 1989 but didn't make the cut. This rendition sung by Freddie was recorded in 1989 and was placed on the 1995 album made in heaven. After Freddie's death in 1991, Brian arranged a solo version, which he performed at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992, and included on his solo album Back to the Light that same year. Freddie's voice is without doubt beyond compare, but check out Brian's it is so beautiful and his anguish is clear too. it hits an emotional dead center bulls eye.

@@decodolly1535 I used to think that when I was younger and more idealistic but not any more. It is sad but most affairs happen when a husband or wife becomes jaded and bored with their long time partner and looks for excitement or the spark out side the relationship. Even a so called "strong" marriage can have infidelity break it up.

JB I'm grateful to have discovered you discovering Queen, which has inspired me to discover Queen much deeper than I thought I knew them. Because of you I've been discovering so much more than their famous songs. Wow have they made some of the most beautiful musical art that has made the world better that I've ever known. Freddie Mercury created and delivered so much of that musical Beauty and Joy to the world and I love watching his spirit light up yours, which in turn lights up mine, which in turn repeats and repeats and repeats. And can I make a tee shirt based on what you said: " turn off the media, turn on the music." Our world needs real love and passion so desperately these days.

Beautiful reaction, James!! This song was written by Brian about his struggles with the end of his first marriage when he fell in love with Anita (his current wife), but after he sang it in the tribute concert they made for Freddie, of course the song took a whole new level. And I agree with you, it's such a mature song and we so can relate to it! Thank you soooo much!! You're such a great reactor!!

I agree with some of the other commenters that you should watch the Queen video "No One But You (Only the Good Die Young" (if you haven't already seen it). It's from after Freddie's death and it's Brian, Roger and John saying farewell to Freddie with Brian and Roger singing. And it's the last time John Deacon played with Queen. VERY moving to say the least.

Just a little info on the song: it was written by Brian May and two other collaborators, originally recorded in 1988 during The Miracle album sessions, but wasn’t included on that album. Brian wrote it about the breakdown of his first marriage and his attraction/falling in love with the woman who became his second wife. Brian ended up putting it on a solo album of his, with himself doing the vocals. He also performed it at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, which led some people to mistakenly believe it was *about* Freddie. As far as this particular recording, it was finally put on the Made In Heaven album in 1994 (after Freddie’s death)... Brian and the guys pulled out the old master from the Queen 1988 Miracle sessions, reworked the instruments etc. Here’s the Wikipedia entry, and if I find a link to Brian’s personal version, I’ll drop it in a response under this comment. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Too_Much_Love_Will_Kill_You

Thanks for this information. I first heard the song on Brian's album and loved it, but didn't know it had been intended as a Queen song originally. I can never decide whether I prefer Brian's version because it contains all the emotion & feelings behind the lyrics. Or Freddie's because he's the better singer. No. He died from complications of AIDS, a disease that governments and even science dismissed as just a "gay" virus and so let people afflicted with it die while they turned their backs on them. He may have had many lovers. As did many people. Or just one. It doesn't matter. The virus was out there before anyone knew what to do. I love this song but I'm afraid that linking it to Freddie's death just stigmatizes him as someone who could have prevented it by not "loving" so much.

JB, I love watching your reactions videos. You're so honest in your emotions. I'll help as much as I can. This is what we need more of in the world, kindness to and for each other. Like you have written, anything helps, $2, $5, $10. So, come on guys, let's help JB. Another song that you may enjoy, is Cool Cat. I love how funky it sounds. Deacon kills the bass in this song. "Cool Cat", written by Freddie Mercury and John Deacon, originally featured David Bowie on backing vocals and a few lines of spoken word to a rhythm during the middle eight. According to Freddie in a 1982 TV interview, Bowie was unhappy with the results and requested them to be removed days before its parent album was slated to be released. With the exception of the electric piano (which was played by Freddie Mercury), all the instruments are played by John Deacon, including drums, guitars, and synths. On the album version, Mercury sings the entire song in falsetto. The alternate take with Bowie's vocals still intact is widely available on various bootleg recordings (however, not this recording) and surfaces from an early 1982 vinyl Hot Space test pressing from the US. Deacon can be heard using the popping technique throughout the track. Queen - Cool Cat (Remastered 2011) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gppioLB0yNjSn58.html I came across this next song a few weeks ago and have played it every day at least 5-6 times. It's obvious as you listen to the lyrics, he's singing about Freddie. The person who created the video did a nice job adding the pictures of Freddie. Makes me cry every time that I hear this song. Brian wrote this song about a very personal and painful time in his life -- the breakup of his first marriage to Chrissy after he met Anita, who became his second (and current) wife. He wrote intending to include it in his solo album but when he played it for his bandmate and heard Freddie sing it, he knew that it had to be released as a Queen song. Freddie sang with such heartfelt emotions that one can not help but wonder if the lyrics meant something very personal to him. (Too much love led to his HIV/AIDS infection?) Brian did later record a version for his solo album.

This song sounds like Freddie looking back up on his whole life and seeing everything in hindsight. it seems that everything is easier to see that way. He trusted Mary more than anyone because she was with him when he had nothing and before his fame. He loved her emotionally even though he couldn’t be with her physically. His partner, Jim Hutton, would not put up with Freddie’s messing around, & Jim was the only male relationship that he had that pretty much put Freddie in his place. Jim gave Freddie the stability and love that he always needed in a male relationship. I’m sure by this point that Freddie was able to look back on all of his bad decisions in the mid-late 1970s & early to mid80s until he met Jim Hutton, & that’s when he saw the big picture and realized the consequences of his actions. This man was facing his own in mortality. So sad but a beautiful song❤️❤️❤️

You should react to 'Mother Love' next. One of the very last songs Freddie sang on. Brian sings the third verse as Freddie was too tired to finish the song, and unfortunately he never did. But the notes he hits are incredible for a man so weak and so close to death. Personally I would skip the video version though, for me it takes away and distracts from the song. You need to just close your eyes and listening to Freddie. It's a really emotional and powerful song. Try this link instead of the actual video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNiDfcWcv7Xan2Q.html

This was written by Brian and it's about having to choose between two lovers (in this case his wife and the woman he fell in love with). As someone who was a cheated on wife it made me see that both side feel pretty much the same way. When it says it will make you "plead and scream, and crawl" it just about rips my insides out. Fantastic song. Freddie sings it best, but Brian also recorded it and did a video. It's well worth the watch because of the raw emotion he shows.

You have such an open mind to music, love your channel. Try "Exercises in Free Love" It's not an actual song but rather a Demo that Mercury made for opera singer Montserrat Caballe to lure her to sing one of his compositions. He sings in falsetto mimicking what would be her voice singing. It's him on the piano too. She liked it and the result was a song called Ensueno (Spanish for Dream/Fantasy) She liked his composition so much she asked him to sing it with her. Later they did the song Barcelona which you already reviewed. However, I find Exercises in Free Love so interesting for the backstory and the fact that its a demo tape. Both songs are on KZfaq.
