I've also just always loved that Brian is a crab. Like, Roger and John get to be massive threatening Lions. Freddie casts himself as a couple of fairies in yet another sly allusion to his sexuality. And then Brian, songwriting legend, guitar wizard extraordinaire, doctor of astrophysics... is a crab. A flaming crab mind you, but just a crab. I love it for the absurdity.

So as a Kid I never knew Unicorns weren't real. In England, we sung the Lion and the Unicorn all the time in reception and pre prep and learnt about the Queen and looking at the coat of arms. So I grew up thinking, "Oh yeah, Lions, I saw them at the zoo, Unicorns are cool, super rare but, I've only ever seen horses along the road, I expect they have some at the zoo near the palace." I also thought all the dragons had just gone existent, why else would they be on the Cambridge shield.

Never saw the Queen logo broken down before. Fascinating. In parallel, there's a version of God Save the Queen on "A Day at the Races".

The 3D depiction of the Queen's Crest on the gate feels pretty majestic and not campy compared to the paper version. Very well written video!

Hi Linus, as someone whose affinity for sports is nonexistent, I recently went down a rabbit hole of NBA team logos and was absolutely fascinated at the amount of disparity between the logo quality. Between teams who've moved cities and kept a now irrelevant + logo along with it (Utah Jazz, anyone?), or teams who look like their logo was made on a free trial of Windows '98, I think you'd really get a kick out of it. Future logo shootout, maybe? ;)

I've been binging these videos all day at work and I'm just now looking at the view and sub counts and HOW? Everything about the video from audio quality to presentation implies a much higher sub count. This is incredible. Well, I don't know why the number is what it is, but I can at least do my part to push it where it should be. Great stuff mate!

Considering Queen (band) doesn't actually have a crest... Achievement unlocked!

The O.G logo is much better designed to my eyes. It's compact, fitting into basically a pentagonal shape. The shield is nicely central. Each of the elements is well weighted. Queen's logo should have the Q in the centre, but instead has the crab leering out at me. The phoenix feels very detached/superimposed, while the fairies don't stand out at all. There's too much white space, and no defined outline.

Remember the Royal Coat of Arms is different in Scotland.

Technically that is called the Coat-of-Arms. Yes there is a Escutcheon-only version of the Coat of Arms, however more generally, the Coat of Arms refers to the ENTIRE symbol. Just like in Australia, the coat of arms of Australia, or officially the "Commonwealth Coat of Arms" refers to the entire symbol, with Kangaroo and Emu, while a Escutcheon-only version is jus the shield of Escutcheon in the middle.

I think based even just on the sheer redundancy in the design the royal coat of arms falls to Queen's.

What a playful use of the two meanings of achievement and a great deconstruction of both pieces of heraldry at the conclusion of this video. I think it's a bit silly that they depicted England essentially twice on the shield while leaving out the Dragon of Wales. They could also put some leeks on the bottom, for the same reason. I also love most of Queen's music and their Heraldry is certainly majestic and fitting.

On the band crest the negative space above the head of the lion on the (viewer's) right is very straight and in the same place that the unicorn's horn is on the royal crest. At first glance I thought it was a horn. I wonder if Queen did this intentionally to further mimic the royal crest.

I don't know if the slogans are really that outdated. I suppose God and my right is as outdated as the concept of monarchy. I'd say "evil to him who thinks evil" is a fair motto that lines up with the concept of punishing crime. Bad things should happen to bad people isn't a controversial opinion. If anything with modern fights against racism sexism, transphobia, homophobia, islamophobia... "evil to those who think evil" is rather fitting and accepted. "God an my right" just fits the royal family, who style have a strong religious position. Divine rights sure sounds outdated, but then we still have a monarchy so...
