This is one of my favorites. No one sings a ballad as passionately as Freddie. From your reactions, it doesn't seem that you have listened to much Queen. Their catalog is so varied that it is impossible to attribute a single structure to Queen. It is probably due to the fact that each of the 4 members of Queen favored different styles of music and since they all four wrote Queen music, naturally the treatment of the music varied. How many groups write and record pop, hard rock, soft rock, rock & roll, area rock, R & B, gospel, funk, thrash rock, ballads, opera, jazz, soul, folk, progressive rock, glam rock, blues, rockabilly songs and made them all sound great?

These guys earned every damn letter in the word GENIUS.They were to Rock-Pop music what Mozart was to Classical. Unparalleled Musicianship . This song was written in 1972 or 73. so you are listening to the years when Queen and other bands such as Zeppelin were creating music with a very whimsical , even Medieval feel to it . Coming directly out of the Psychedelic Sixties. It was a sound that took you on a journey of the mind. But no one mastered it like Queen did .

Dr. Brian May wrote this song when he was still a student at Imperial College, He was facsinated by one of his classmate but he's too shy to approach her. Dr. Bri spent 3 years w/o daring to speak to her, he finally pays tribute to her through this song.! what a lucky lady😁 But Freddie took it to another level on stage especially in this performance! Brilliant! Now boys,you have to check out the Black side "The March Of The Black Queen" I would say it's a must because for me..before Bohemian Rhapsody there's March Of The Black Queen another Freddie's Masterpiece👏👏👌🤟👑👑

Thank you...we can never have too much Freddie and Queen....just to mention about the wing tips on Freddie’s sleeves and the bottom of his pants...this was about the Roman God, Mercury...who was also known as the Winged Messenger....Freddie was interested in everything...from the artist Richard Dadd who painted “My Fairy Feller’s Master Stroke... Freddie wrote a song about it.....he included “Prélude à làprès-midi d’un faune (as performed by The Royal Ballet”) in the video of “I Want to Break Free”....another time he performed with The Royal Ballet...as well as Live Aid, there was Fashion Aid....and in it there was a wedding scene..Freddie was a groom and Jane Seymour was the bride.......Freddie was a boxing champion...there is a pic of him with a huge silver trophy...notice his boxing stance when he’s performing.....just a little bit about Freddie’s life...amazing person..very humble in real life🤩

I’m 💯 with you regarding Freddie’s vocals! He is the greatest vocalist & frontman! He sings every song with such emotion & passion. His voice is so versatile with tone/ texture depending on the song! He always makes you resonate with the song. Freddie’s voice was a God given talent. There are artists who can deliver a technical performance, but you don’t feel they are really connected with the song so the energy and emotion of the song is lost. No one compares to Freddie’s voice or stage presence! The whole band sounds great on this song. Love Brian’s and Freddie’s guitar and piano parts- hauntingly beautiful! Please consider studio version of Another One Bites The Dust; Love Of My Life Live @ Montreal or Wembley; Tie Your Mother Down Live Montreal; Staying Power Live Milton Keynes.

Queen's early albums are my favorites, they did their most experimental music. What we call metal, hard rock, progressive, whimsical, and vaudeville. Queen took rock into the theatrical arena, their first 5 albums are my favorites, but the first 2 and the Innuendo album to this day are my all time favorites.

2, 3 and 4 are the best albums IMO. I hate it when I hear people say Queen, oh what... Radio Gaga, I want To Break Free, Another One Bites The Dust... NO! This was a phenomenal, ground-breaking ROCK band. Say the name Queen to me and I think of Black Queen, Killer Queen, Bo Rhap, Prophet's Song, etc etc and mostly their output pre-1980. And for that alone, they are musical legends.

Live 1974 at the Rainbow, was their 1st TV presented concert with many excellent songs, including Freddie's creation of thrash metal "Stone Cold Crazy" which later became a favorite Metallica cover. Also, " Liar", another Freddie creation, and Seven Seas of Rhye, which was their 1st Top of the Pops presentation. These should be seen from this early live presentation to understand why their music impressed the audience with their creativity and unique performances. This was in the early "glam rock" era of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust etc. and created exciting new genres

Nice reaction. Queen did any style of music that was available at the time, from trash metal to Motown. Queen II is more of a concept album, it is quite a heavy album with a lot of progressive rock. The White Queen is the slowest song on the album, the live version is better then the studio version. Check out Stone Cold Crazy - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974, it is officially known as the first thrash metal song, Metallica also covers this song regularly. Or can check out The March Of The Black Queen, it is more similar to Bohemian Rhapsody, in fact where Bohemian Rhapsody has 5 sections, The March Of The Black Queen has 11 different sections. Or another great early song, where everyone has a time to shine, it even includes a bass solo, is Liar - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974 (the 8 minute version).

Written by and about Dr Brian May so yes it's different, they all wrote the songs separately, as a pair or all four, don't forget Freddie had the job of making every song sound as it was written and the message behind it, in Brian case it was someone who he saw from a distance and didn't act on his feelings, it's not Freddie and Queen, it's just Queen with four singers and writers all telling their stories

Great choice. It is considered progressive rock. It is quite different from the studio; it is this live performance that is a fan favourite. If you listen again and focus on the drums, although subtle, is very well done, locked into Freddie’s vocal and instrumental lead; impeccable timing, not as easy live as it may appear👍

This is a spectacular exhibit of Freddie's piano work (Mozart esque) and did you notice how Freddie empties his lungs of his reserve air? (2-3x). And while you may have to focus to hear the piano (once you realize it's not hard) it's practically a piano solo. Watch it once more for yourselves and I bet you'll see/ hear what I mean. Early Queen vs mid to late Queen.... yes Freddie seemed to have a softer approach or style. To me it seems like he got angry or rough or needed to be tougher in his sound later like he had something to prove. Although don't get me wrong there is Stone Cold Crazy that Freddie wrote before Queen. Wowza! And of course Liar!
@kenanderson2002
@kenanderson2002 7 ай бұрын
Don't forget Death on Two Legs!!! I'm going to agree and disagree about the piano.. One thing I think I have noticed in almost all Queen songs is that all 4 of them are doing their things and playing throughout, but each has an isolated segment. I believe the reason the piano is hard to hear at times is simply because they wanted you to hear drums, bass, or guitar. Almost every song has a guitar solo. Almost every song has a drum solo. Bass solo. Piano solo. Backing vocals. But more times than not, they aren't really solos as much as they make certain parts louder so you hear the dominant instrument or vocals... but it wouldn't sound as good without that faint hint of the background playing along with the 'solo.'
@bethford6007
@bethford6007 7 ай бұрын
@kenanderson2002 good commentary. for this performance, I do hear Brian's guitar strongly aligned with the piano strokes and tones. it's like he elevates the piano playing into the air. I expressed it as a piano solo because there are essentially no words sung during the majority of it, unlike other songs, as well as its length. 😉

I was wondering when you would do Queen again. Thanks! I love, love, love this performance. Brian May has written some of my favourite songs. I only wish they would have put the camera on Brian more when he was doing some of his epic guitar work. Listen again--there is more drumming going on by Roger than you were saying. I can't imagine there are many bands able to pull off this song in concert. I think it was Robert Plant that said a lot of bands want to cover a Queen song and then realize how hard (or impossible) it is to do. Queen = 4 talented musicians and 4 talented songwriters. Check out "Liar" from the Rainbow (Live). Thanks again.
