My reaction to Queen live at Hyde Park 1976 with their performance of You Take my Breath Away. This is perhaps Freddie Mercury's best live vocal performance that I have heard. A singer songwriter reaction. To hear more of my music, get contact info and links visit www.calebcoles.com

Hey Hey Karen J! Yes! This is my favorite version of this song. Freddie & piano & the sweetest, breathiest vocals. Perfection! Now, onto "White Queen" -Live at the Hammersmith/Odeon 1975. and sometime later, "My Melancholy Blues" - from wherever it's found. QUEEEEEENNNNN Forever!

I'm a bit ashamed to say this, but I grew up listening to queen, and for a while, I had to keep it a secret from people at my school, everyone had a problem with gay people back then, and they thought queen was for puffs (not my words), they thought the whole band were gay, probably because of I want to break free, and labeled anyone who would dare admit to liking them. I wasn't even gay, but I was that paranoid of people thinking I was it took me a good few years before I built up the courage to tell everyone that I love Queen. Shame on me I guess. ☹️☹️

You’re not alone in preferring this version to the studio one. Most times their live versions are so much better. I could give you many examples, but one you really should give a go is White Queen live in Hammersmith 1975. Freddie’s voice is sublime, and the instrumentals particularly Freddie’s piano and Brian’s guitar are so beautiful it will bring a tear to your eye.

basically all Queen live releases have been altered after the fact to correct pitch or add overdubs. They had some live versions that were better than in studio for sure (Love of my Life comes to mind), but definitely not most.

He was an interpreter, not merely a "singer". Much like someone who translates language, Freddie's interpretations bring us closer to understanding the music. Everything from the aching vulnerability of his falsetto to the catch of breath just before he sings "you take my breath away" helps us to feel the song and not just hear it.

i know some people say later in the 80’s he wasn‘t able to sing this falsetto anymore in live-performances but if you listen to the montreal-version of „somebody to love“ in 1981 or even the „rock in rio blues“ in 1985 you can hear this falsetto also later or also near the end of their live-performances as it would never have been away. i think later in their career he only chose to sing it more powerful or like he wanted to so he would have to take care of his energy a bit more. in an interview he once stated if people wanted to hear their songs like on the records they should go and listen to the records behind closed doors. due to my observations they‘ve always done their songs slightly different compared to their records even during one and the same tour. but all the versions were always phenomenal. their intention was to give the audience something they wouldn‘t expect especially for people who came to visit their concerts regularly as i‘ve heard in some interview with roger i think.

To me, this is the very BEST version of this song! So gorgeous. This song was obviously very personal to Freddie as he shows his insistence that the audience "listen to this one". Ah, Freddie in love!. Next up? Perhaps an assessment of "White Queen" live at Hammersmith/Oden 1975. That is a feast for the eyes & ears as well! Then follow with a nice "My Melancholy Blues" from where ever you find it. Enjoy.

It is actually more difficult to belt in full chest then to sing in falsetto. Freddie sang in falsetto every night that he performed on Impromptus or during Get Down Make Love, in the 80's. An example, Impromptu Queen live Tokyo 1985 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fLx_aLqg1pe7mKc.html.

It's my favorite live performance. I enjoyed watching your reaction to it as I no longer can find people around me whose opinion I treasure who can experience this song for the first time. You made it special. I don't think there's a single person whether a professional or not who will say this is not a great performance, but then again, I've seen vicious criticism of Montserrat Caballe of her best performances on some channels, so I think there are people out there who don't appreciate the pure beauty and talent. I pity them...

There were approx. 150K people there for this free Queen concert. Roger said they were even hanging from the trees. It was a VERY rowdy crowd as you can tell at the beginning of the song. Part of Freddie's magic was the fact that by just using his quiet falsetto voice and piano he was able to almost completely silence the huge crowd. This is one of my favorite 3 Queen songs. (White Queen live at Hammersmith and Bijou being the other two.)

The thing with Mercury is you always had the sense that he felt what he was singing. I went to a number of Queen's concerts and sometimes he was tired and not perfect (still better than 99% of performers) but his passion and commitment was incredible. He, and the band, had an astonishing connection with the audience.

Caleb I’ve loved your Queen journey and the insight you’ve given into Freddie’s voice from the power ballad “somebody to love,” to the tender “love of my life” and this early Freddie masterpiece. You’ve made it clear in all the videos that Freddie’s voice went on a journey in itself. With this in mind I’d love to hear you react to “who wants to live forever” Wembley 86. It’s a belting number but I would like to see how you analyse Freddie protecting his voice and adapting it due to all the marathon concerts he’d put his voice through. For different reasons it’s still a masterful performance from Freddie but would love to see you breakdown what he does and the journey of his voice in what is one of the last live performances he does. Keep up the good work 👊🏻

A LEGEND!!!! I love very much Freddy Mercury and the Queen are one of my favorite group of all times. Beautiful song and performance!!!! Great reaction👏👏👏👏Please, listen "Okinish regret" by Dimash, he wrote this beautiful song. There is a fancam video on KZfaq, the sound is not very good but this song and his performance are awesome. Greetings from Italy ❤️❤️🇮🇹

@@CalebColesMusic No, unfortunately I have found only this video of this song or some fan made videos and then I searched the translation on Google, but this is one of the few songs written by him
