Not sure how the movie got queen for the soundtrack, but I do know how queen got the star of the film to appear in the music video with them. Apparently Christopher Lambert was really good friends with Freddie Mercury, so when Freddy asked him to appear in the music video he said yes

Even as a child I adored the film and the incredible music of Queen. When I saw the clip, I thought, “Oh God, how lucky they are, it’s MacLeod with them!” Now I understand that it’s actually the other way around, it’s incredible luck to stand on the same stage with Freddie. Favorite song, magical!

This track and Who Wants to live forever, really hit the theme of the film, very well, espeically who wants to live forever because you can feel the weight of Conner's sadness at the fact his first wife has died and he has to go on living with no family to help him through his grief!

I absolutely love Queen, and they are indisputably one of the greatest rock bands in history. That being said, this song has one of the most jarring tonal shifts I’ve ever heard. I absolutely adore the bad ass beginning of this song. It has an epic dark fantasy feel and then suddenly it shifts to an upbeat almost whimsical sound. The movie Highlander is anything but whimsical.

I’ll never forget hearing this song for the first time. Sounds weird, but it gave me hope when I was young. I was bullied a lot and I thought that I was destined to be bullied my whole life. But this made me want to stand up and fight back. It was the first time I felt that way. I still get chills listening to this song.

Nothing about this movie needed to go as hard as it did. But there was a shining moment in time where Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, Christopher Lambert, and Motherfucking Queen were all in the same movie, and we, collectively, as the human race, do not deserve the sheer awesomeness that it delivered.

Both of my kids, adults but kids to me, are monster Disney princess dorks and my son and his husband will explain in great detail how the greatness of a Disney princess is weighted by how useless the prince is. My goodness, if having Queen doing entire soundtracks wasn't a HUGE win in the 80's column then I don't know what is. The loss of Freddie Mercury was tragic not only for the person who he was being lost but to music itself. He was a unique occurence and he had so much more music in him. I mourn for what we might have heard from him over the last 30 years.

You, sir, are *exactly* correct. The ultimate frontman with a four octave range? Never be another Freddie. His voice was so strong, Brian - who has a great voice as well - never had to hold back lest his own singing come out too strong. *Scientists* are literally still studying Freddie's voice - and he's been gone far, far, too long. Almost twenty-five years now. I was only twelve, and had no idea, as I didn't fall in love with Queen until college. (My roommate was a Queen *fanatic*; I fell in love with them in self-defense - lol. He played Queen, Metallica, and Meatloaf almost exclusively. Yes, he was a bit weird - lol - but he introduced me to Freddie and Highlander, so I really can't complain.) But I love this and "Who wants to live forever" in particular. "These are the days of our lives" is just too sad - knowing it was his last song. (Made the mistake of watching the video and cried my damn eyes out.) Too many others to name. It's a kind of magic, Hammer to fall, I'm going slightly mad, The Seven Seas of Rhye... The concert they call "Hungarian Rhapsody" is second only to Live Aid in '85, IMO.

ImmanentTremor Four octave - but no less amazing for that. His normal range was baritone, yet he sang tenor most often - and could go all the way to a coloratura. I'm told that he was hesitant about doing the opera duet because he was afraid his fans wouldn't recognise his voice.
