Learn how to make miniature "glass" jars with simple everyday items. I used hot glue sticks, paper fasteners, colored pencils, buttons, paper, and string. Decorating the jars was a lot of fun.
www.etsy.com/listing/14639576...
This isn't the file I used, but I really like the variety offered and the "lids" that are included.
I can't find the files I bought on Etsy. I don't see a record of it in my purchases, and I can't find them by searching. It's possible the seller deleted the listing. The files weren't in 1:12 scale when I printed them. They printed "too big" (and I used those labels for the larger jars). I had to print them again and make my best guess about what size they should be. I printed them at 55%.
I have lots of projects planned ranging from scratch made accessories, abandoned miniatures, furniture makeovers, accessories, kits and Dollhouse Miniatures in multiple scales. I also have a large Harry Potter build planned for 1" scale.

The coupon section of the Sunday newspaper can provide product images, which can be cut to use as labels. The coupons usually feature a small photo of the product, and if you don't plan on using the coupon to save money on your groceries, or if they are already expired, you might as well put them to good use for your miniatures.

I love the realism of keeping a bit of the jar empty. Canned foods always need to have that space to be safely processed; it's called "head space."

I believe that the heated air in the headspace shrinks at it cools. It creates a vacuum that seals the lid to the jar.

@@fredericapanon207 Exactly. If you don't have the head space, the contents will force their way under the lid, preventing a good seal. I used to be Mormon and canned all the time 😂

I Love this! Thank you for sharing it. My daughter and I have been wanting to work on a couple of miniature houses we purchased before I was unexpectedly diagnosed with multiple spinal cord injuries, severe nerve damage, breast and endometrial cancers and a few other life threatening health issues. I have made a couple of miniature houses and all of the furniture and furnishings that are in them including the people. When I was teaching 3rd grade we did a unit on the pioneers and settlers in our area and the country. As part of it we did a number of immersive activities and projects both as a class and individually. Each teacher in the grade level did a craft where they got to make something just like how they did a few hundred years ago. They got to make ink for writing with a quill pen, paper making, candle making, simple toys, just to name a few. We also did a school day like it would have been in a one room schoolhouse using only things that they would have had. To provide a realistic lunch we made homemade soup and bread and even made butter the old fashioned way. I had each student bring in 1 ingredient and they helped prep the vegetables by washing them, peeling and chopping. I provided the protein. I would take all of the ingredients home with me the night before so I could cook the meat and get the soup started in the crockpot. I also got everything ready for the homemade bread that I would bake in my bread machine once I got to school in the morning. I did this to guarantee it would be ready before our lunch time. The aromas filled the whole floor of our building and made everyone hungry. In the week before our day in the life we invited people from around our community who had special skills to come to the school and show/teach our students how the settlers/pioneers would have made everyday items. We were blessed to have blacksmith who showed them how they made knives, horseshoes, nails and hinges. One of our teachers in the school taught them the history of weaving with reeds, pine needles and other plant materials and demonstrated how to make a basket. Another teacher shared what it was like growing up in a house that didn't have running water and all of the chores they had to do on her Grandparents farm. We had a sweet woman from the public Library who taught them the history of wool and the steps needed to turning it into thread and yarn including what they used to dye the yarn and how they would either knit or weave it to create the clothing or fabric. Another gentleman demonstrated how to make a broom. As part of their grade each student with the help of a family member chose a project to make off of a list they were given. They could make a covered wagon, a log cabin, or a couple of other items that I can't remember. We asked that they not go spend money to make the project and use found items in and around their home. It was incredible to see what they made. I made the miniature log cabin to help them see and understand what their home might look like. I used mostly materials that I had in my sewing/craft room that were leftover from other projects. Pebbles meant for a fish tank became the stone fireplace and chimney. The jars you created will be perfect for the other houses we need to finish. I thank you for your tutorial and will look at your other videos to create other items.

Brilliant idea! I shall definitely be making some for my models. I love the idea that you can either make them look ‘shop bought’ or ‘handmade’ depending on the finish.

love this!!! i don't make physical crafts very often these days, but i love the way you think about art. leaving room in the jars to match how they're packaged in real life, choosing fabric that fits with whats inside of them, finding neat ways to use objects in ways you wouldn't normally think to, etc... its very inspiring and straight-up awesome! the way you designed these miniatures really makes me think of how i design background elements in my own art. made up brands, modified designs based on real ones, all the way up to the generic objects or lumpy shapes i hide behind the better ones. 😅 i subscribed!

That's awesome! Thanks for subbing and your comment. Little details like leaving space at the top of the jar takes no extra skill, but it makes a difference.

So many good ideas!!! All so different ! It really adds just so much to have that variation. I just love watching people make the tiniest accessories. When they’re building the whole dollhouse I’m just not as fascinated idk why. And then I keep thinking about your shadow box and it’s so much better than this clunky giant dollhouse you can hardly see into. Which is fine as an actual child’s toy as it’s intended of course 😅

Thank you! I have a couple more smaller projects planned (a French Boutique and a Tudor style pub). I've been very busy and neglecting the Goose Egg House, so I'll be getting back to that, too.
