Queens of the Stone Age at the Big Day Out Auckland New Zealand, January 2003 - The First Set.

This is the first set QOTSA played that day, and the PA system cut out a few times, I was in the stands of course, hence the windy sound, and you can hear everyone around me including some real dummies lol, anyways, the beginning is missing cause the MiniDV tape snapped and i had to open it up and fix it with a snip and some tape, and it worked!

Wow, really rare to find new footage of older gigs, thanks a lot. Shame about the PA, but rad to see anyway. Josh actually recently talked about this gig being where he met his future wife, she was still married at the time, probably hence why they opened with The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret. Anything memorable he may have said coming onstage that got cut out?

Bro thanks for the feedback, and interesting story about Josh, sorry i havn't a clue what happened in the intro etc, it was a rude awakening just getting these vids captured, i had tried viewing them almost a decade earlier, and they were all glitched and fuked, that was through a JVC cam i brought to test tapes , randomly tried on an old Sony cam from my grandparents room the other week, almost same but a newer model i recorded the vids with, and boom played straight off the bat... it was a real WTF moment.

Could be the power loss related to some bad issue with Homme's Ampeg v4 head (the one driving two cabs facing each other)? At minute 16:30 you can see the stage guy removing the jack from the amp's input and replacing it with a Marshall Super Lead or Super Bass (iI'm not sure which Marshall model was using, but I saw the same amp here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/erFgiqeg0bCappc.html ). Or the power/PA fail damaged the Ampeg?

I was there. They ended up moving to one of the other stages and played another set later that night. From what I remember the amps for the PA system overheated

Josh's sunburst Ovation GP wasn't brought out for "No One Knows" due to the constant PA failures. And also, before GINTR, an additional Ampeg SVT was put in Nick's rig. This is also QOTSA's second-worst show, only followed by Rock am Ring 2001 (on 1st June 2001).

Awesome to see. I was there and I am surprised watching this, they actually played more than I remember. I thought the P.A. cutting out interrupted them more. Gutted i didn't stay and catch their boiler room set after the foo fighters.

Yeah mang, I thought they only got about five songs in. But then, Pj Harvey and Janes Addiction were faaaaairly frikkin mind blowing. The set they played later in the night was eeeeeeepic dude. Was up on the Essential stage tho, not the Boiler Room. Fave BDO by far! Woot!

That’s right, I was anticipating for Dave to rock up on stage with the stone ages, but he never did, so I was so bummed out 😂😂. Foo Fighters headlined the event later that night. Best concert ever!.

was there for the day. atrocious sound on the large stage. the rescheduled full set on the 3rd stage (outdoors in the upper field, not boiler room as another poster said) was much better. Hutch gave me his setlist after the 2nd set, it's in a box somewhere... I had chatted with Hutch and Van Leeuwen after the 'secret' PJ Harvey show (at The Dog's Bollix, Newton Road) the night before and they seemed happy to be in NZ, pity it turned out rough.

Nice you got the Setlist dude, yea na it wasn't the Boiler Room, that was in a tent with rivers of sweat dripping off the walls as you entered lolz, and for fuck sakes i did not know about the PJ side show...dang, i would have documented that too if i'd known... BTW if you didn't know, check out my other vids, i got the 2nd set aswell, with an alternate audio, witch is better than my original Cam audio, Peace!

I remember this well. The most anticipated band of the day. Sound was shit from the get go where I was - the PA cutting out at crucial moments absolutely sucked. Set 2 was amazing but I'd been awake days by that point
