And the backup vocals are no slouch, either. This band was criminally underrated. I feel like they got lost under the hype of mid-80s new wave and then bands like GnR, and Empire was released right when grunge was introduced to us in the 90s. Empire was one of my fave albums my freshman year of high school, but I was definitely paying more attention to Nirvana, RHCP, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins and the like.

@DismalShadow7 жыл бұрын
Idnic Tsal Never said they were alike. I said that they're the same genre. Queensryche is progressive metal, which is a genre that they pioneered; Dream Theater's main influence is Queensryche. If you listen to Dream Theater's earlier songs you'll see. James Labrie's vocal style is quite similar to Geoff Tate's. Like I said, the bands aren't the same or alike, but they are similar considering they're the same genre. Listen to some of Dream Theater's interviews, you'll see.

I had an older brother who introduced me to the music of the 80's while my parents preferred the music of the 50's and 60's. I guess I got the best of both worlds. I stumbled upon queensryche by accident when watching MTV one day as an 11 year old (early 1991). It was when one band a week would host an hr of music throughout that week. Geoff didn't catch my eye first, it was Michael wilton and (no joke on this as I remember it like it was yesterday) in the background was Eddie Jackson on sort of fake horse trying to wrangle it.

"Anybody Listening?" You and I Long to live like the wind upon the water If we close our eyes, we'll maybe realize There's more to life than what we have known And I can't believe I've spent so long Living lies I knew were wrong inside I've just begun to see the light Long ago there was a dream Had to make a choice or two Leaving all I loved behind For what nobody knew Stepped out on the stage, a life Under lights and judging eyes Now the applause has died and I Can dream again Is there anybody listening? Is there anyone that sees what's going on? Read between the lines Criticize the words they're selling Think for yourself and feel the walls Become sand beneath your feet Feel the breeze? Time's so near you can almost taste the freedom There's a warm wind from the south Hoist the sail and we'll be gone By morning this will all seem like a dream And if I don't return to sing the song Maybe just as well I've seen the news and there's Not much I can do...alone Is there anybody listening? Is there anyone who smiles without a mask? What's behind the words-images They know will please us? I'll take what's real. Bring up the lights Is there anybody listening? Is there anyone that sees what's going on? Read between the lines Criticize the words they're selling Think for yourself and feel the walls Become sand beneath your feet

The story of a man's lonely journey down the road of self realization. The painful journey to follow a dream and wondering if it's all worth the sacrifice. Realizing how high the price truly is and asking himself if it's all worth it. At what point do we determine how much of ourselves will be stripped away for this dream ? Is it really worth the sacrifice, knowing the person who started the journey will be a stranger by the time the journey has ended? The moment where the veil between fantasy and reality falls away and your face to face with the painful truth in front of you? The journey is always a lonely one, but when you boil it all down, it's not about whether or not other's can accept us, but whether or not we can accept ourselves. . I think we're all required to walk this path,taking us to a deeper level of understanding our ourselves and what lyes within the shadows of our souls. I think only then are we able to see the purpose of it all. Anyway's, such a beautiful story and beautiful song. I think alot of people can relate to it, thanks for sharing this side of yourself with us :)

As a man I've battled demons but have always had angels by my side in the journey across the sea. I hear whispers in the wind of my ancestors guiding me towards my destiny and the Sun is my sheild against darkness. Who am I ? I am Akasha the Legend and my heart is in the Caribbean sea of life.

@@LaurieRycher Tate went on an ego trip. It’s already apparent in this video, walking around in some kind of weird pro wrestling outfit. The split within QR was inevitable but there’s no question in my mind that Tate and DeGarmo were the main drivers behind the band’s success. TLT must have been a nice change at first but has nowhere near the same songwriting skills as Tate had, as far as lyrics go. Wilton and Jackson are too passive and are allowing TLT to fill the void and take over the band as we speak. This is just not QR anymore. it’s a different beast.
