Quentin comes across as a cooler guy on British interviews then he does on American interviews, he seems more comfortable. I sorta agree with Jonathan Ross about his use of music. I mean I love Inglourious Basterds as a whole but at times the use of music from other films is a bit distracting. It works at times, but at others it sorta sticks out like a sore thumb. Still though, I love everything else about the movie and I hope QT gets an oscar for the screenplay.

Tarantino’s decision to use an original score in The Hateful Eight had nothing to do with JR’s comment lmao. Tarantino made Django Unchained AFTER Inglourious Basterds and this very interview with JR, and in Django, Tarantino still used pre-existing music and score. It always comes down to what serves the film, and as Tarantino himself has said, he thought that an orchestral atmospheric score was very appropriate for the story and feel of The Hateful Eight.

For me, the music in a tarantino film is designed to draw you out of the movie. He doesnt make realistic movies that are designed to draw you into the screen (a la Ridley). He does the opposite. He constantly draws attention to the fact that you are watching a movie. In terms of soundtrack, the best example is David Bowies Cat People. The song is a 80's track in a movie set in the 40's. and cat people is also a movie. All this reminds you that it's not real and that allows Tarantino to have fun

He is being deadpan though. I'm not sure how much of Johnathan Ross's shows you've watched but he honestly isn't being offensive, his comments are not serious, this is the way our humour is - deliberately crude but not serious. We tend to make a lot of comments that on the surface seem rude but they are not supposed to be - that's why the audience laughed, they know he's messing around. But Quentin, being American, isn't used to our way and feels that he's being offensive, but he isn't
