Quentin Tarantino dunked all over Bruce Lee's legacy in his movie "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," and when Bruce Lee fans let him know how they felt about it, his response was to go suck a D.
Now Tarantino could have apologized.
He could have explained how he's created this fictional universe where his version of Bruce Lee existed, but instead, he decided to go on the Joe Rogan Experience and do a bunch of interviews where he tried to present his version of Bruce Lee as fact, and do you know why he did it?
It's because Quentin Tarantino has a bizarre hatred for Bruce Lee.

I have researched serial Bullsh*ter Tarantino' story. Too many articles are saying that "Clif Boothe" was based on Burt Reynolds stunt double and friend "Hal Needham" who was a Korean War Veteran and real bad ass. I read an article about Gene LeBell being brought in to teach Bruce Lee how to make fights look real because Bruce didn't think the fights looked real on film. LeBell was horsing around with Lee and picked Lee up above his shoulders and ran around the set with Bruce on his shoulders. There were hollow threats made by both men but there was never a fight like Tarantino claims there was. I believe Tarantino changed who Clif Boothe was based on because Hal Needham wasn't a martial artist and people where pissed off of Tarantino's bullsh*t story so he changed it to Gene LeBell to save face even though that was another lie.

Goldenbell, about Bruce Li , he's been vilified so much threw out the yrs 4 being a "Bruce Lee " imitator!! In those days, it's considered a great boost 4 a young actor's career 2 be mentioned in the breathe as Bruce Lee. Bruce Li was the best because HE looked like Bruce & he studied Wing Chun just as Bruce had. Mr. Hung ( part of Li's name) studied Tae Kwon Do also so his kicks can compensate Lee's kicks. As a matter of fact just like Dan Insanato ( who Li worked with in later films 🎥) Li became a more Authority on WC than Lee himself. Is good ,bad or indifferent?? NO!! It means Lee's life span was cut shorter than Li's that's all!! Bruce Li took 🕤 to train & understand JKD WITH Dan Insanato which BETTER than other Bruce exportations actors most notoriously Bruce Le & Dragon Lee. Le had that lean muscle shredded"Enter the Dragon" look & Dragon was 5 ft short who needed a better fight choreographer! BOTH Divas was 2 of the Clones of Bruce Lee

Goldenbell? Quit It ( instead of Quentin) Tarantino tells our fellow Bruce Lee fans to go suck a dick 😒!! Who knows that better than an ASSHOLE??( Q.T.) There was a better way to promote & publicise this fictional story based on actual events!! All Quit It had to do is say " It's art imitating life!" Giving fans a "What If The Manson kids went to the 🏡 of the 📺 action 🌟s ,fictional character Rick Dalton." Dalton actually, unwittingly saved the lives of the pregnant Sharon Tate & others by ordering the kids to get the bucket of bolts 🚗 out of the area!! THAT redirected the attention from The Roman Pawlowski home ( & wife Sharon) to Dalton's 🏡 where we know what happened there.

I never realised how far ahead Lee was until I studied his training regime and philosophy. He was at least 30 years ahead of everyone else. People trained hybrid arts but taking pieces of many different arts in what we know as MMA wasn't really done until the early 2000s. Even in UFC they didn't really figure it out until BJJ was beating everyone, then people started to analyse a lot of arts. He was doing full contact with gloves and mitts when no one was, he was doing weights for martial arts when no one was, he was incorporating grappling and ground fighting when no one was , he incorporated movement from dancing and fencing when no one was. Sure he didn't have an amazing fight record but his training, his philosophy of just using what worked was very impressive.

I feel Bruce Lee Fans & Bruce Lee Haters are both sides of the same coin. One side props him up as a total god who can beat any pro MMA fighter, & the others believe he's a fraud and only uses their surface-level knowledge of his movies to support that belief. But like you and I have, we've actually taken time to read his writings in order to understand him further. His books weren't bad and the concepts he had to offer were still valuable. He learned a lot from other martial arts & professional fighters. TheWeasel had a good, unbiased analysis of Bruce. He appraised Bruce's use of the sidekick to the knee - what Bruce called the "longest weapon to the closest target" - which has seen use in the UFC by Jon Jones' camp. Bruce fought _very_ differently from his movies. But, Weasel also admitted that his sparring partner was too inexperienced to accurately gauge Bruce's skills. And how Bruce's use of a vertical fist could be difficult against a mobile opponent. I think anybody can gain benefit from studying Bruce. But both the deification & defamation of his name only serves to prevent people from learning something truly valuable from the man.

It's easy. You can watch QT's movies when you are a teenager, you may find some still interesting when you border a certain age, but from then on, his violence and general approach drifts away from any personal evolution that might happen. There is just nothing behind the stories QT tells. In change, you can age with Bruce Lee. You will always find him inspirational when you need assistance most. It is not about the movies, it is about the man. He can fill any void at any time, and not because of violence, but because of genuine wisdom he spread, generosity and hard working character he was. I would really like to explore this topic in depth as I find it very interesting. Does one focus on a single martial art like Muay Thai or jujitsu and spend many years to become an expert at it? How many martial arts should you learn? Does a person learn to be good enough at one thing and then add to their style 1 by 1? What is considered as being good enough that you decide to explore something else to plug the weaknesses that your main style has?

Yep, he was in fact probably the only such person in a time when it was common to speed up film to make the actor seem faster than they actually were. So that is a pretty stunning caveat in that time era of the film industries history. I mean say for instance, our current film industry, where it doesn't really apply, but if Bruce were the one exception amongst a slew of films that regularly practice speeding up film in that earlier era. What might that imply for him and us now? Well today we have computer generated graphics and are light years ahead of the technology of those times. It is probably more prevalent today with the need to make each new character more amazing than the one before. The cameras wouldn't miss anything Bruce did and it would be nice to see how well the tech could slow Bruce and follow his movements these days. That would be quite revealing. Back to the point though if he was the only one that had to be 'slowed down' during a time when everyone else had to be 'sped up' . Could he possibly be the only one bad ass enough to impress the audience in today's time; 40 to 50 years later, who didn't have to be 'sped up' but just 'kept the same' Seems like your being a bit unfair if you can say ahh the hell with how his speed was so fast an entire industry treated him and him alone differently the combined rest of the lot. That fact means something it's no light fact that should be glossed over as having no bearing on a simple reality Bruce Lee was probably faster than any other human for a long long time if not all time.

From what I understand Bruce wanted to make the fights look real on the Green Hornet. His problem was that he didn't really know how to do that for the camera. Natural, most would think that if I punch and stop within an inch of the person's face.....It'll look real. Bruce try this on the set. His mistake was that he didn't tell the stuntmen what he was trying to do. His targets react differently. Which lead to some tagging. Bruce is trying to take it to the next level but doesn't know how. Gene was call in by the studio because he a martial artist and the studio thought he could get through to Bruce. (At least thats what I believe) Gene loves to horse play and if I remember correctly Gene bear hugged Bruce from behind and lifted him off the ground. Bruce was mad but couldn't get out. Gene said he wouldn't put him down until he calm down. Bruce had a temper so he didn't want to deal with a pissed off Bruce, especially for just playing around with him. If they had fought.....people would have talk about it a long time ago. Gene help Bruce with his experiences from being a stuntman. Did Bruce tag some stuntman? Yes. Was he doing it to be a jerk? No. Bruce bragged about his abilities to showcase his style and to see if it could hold up against other martial arts...but he wasn't stupid. He never claim to be a "God" that a lot of his fanboys claim. I'm not putting Bruce down. I love him and what he did for martial arts. Bruce never claim he was unstoppable. He said you can brag about how good you are but if they pull out a gun.....BANG.....you're dead. Bruce got into a lot of fights in real life but he always try to keep what happen from coming out to the public. He told people to keep their mouth shut about his fights. The handball court fight he had....he told them not to say anything about the fight and it still got out. If he kept track of all the fights he had in real life........his fanboys would have made a 50 foot statue of Bruce Lee and pray to it everyday. This is my take on it after spending a lot time researching him.

I began studying Bruce's legacy in 1980. I was a young teenager. Bruce Lee had a tremendous impact on my life in a good way. Obviously I'm not one of those who thinks Bruce was invincible but I don't see him as just an actor. His contribution, during the Jim Crowe era to martial arts, the development of martial arts, the insight in looking at people as people and not the color of their skin or ethnicity broke barriers not only in the US but between east and west. Jeet Kune Do was not Bruce's only legacy, he was and did so much more. Now if you ask me, could Bruce fight, I would answer "You wouldn't want to find that out personally". The fake Karate champions of the 60's that played tag Karate were no match for Bruce and they knew it, they were envious of his intelligence, his creativity, his insight and the fact that you couldn't touch him. Hayward Nishioka said Bruce was well trained in grappling arts but if he got him on the ground he could possibly defeat him, but the problem was getting him on the ground, he was too fast.

Bruce Lee is definitely overrated, you're a fool if you think otherwise. There's a whole bunch of hype around him and Mystique with the fact they died so young. He's like some mythical fighter who can to do things no one can do today. Like some comic superhero. He was a human that's it, nothing more. Maybe he was a good fighter but he wasn't really tested. The way people describe him sounds like he could be beating 15 top MMA guys in the same night, it's ridiculous. It sounds like people think that he could do in real life what he did in his movies

@@silence-humility-calmness I think you’re pretty wrong actually. While I do believe that their could be another martial artist like Bruce Lee out there he was definitely not overrated. He had discipline, followed strict regiments to his craft, and was a great martial artist and actor. And about his movies not portraying reality that’s wrong too. He was actually even faster at striking and kicking irl than in his movies since there were many times the producers had to tell him to slow down to get the shot correctly. He was connected to his culture so he was definitely a key part of bringing the influence of Chinese culture and methodology to the West. Also you’re forgetting about his one inch punch, 2 finger push ups and dragon flag workout. Why do misinformed ppl like you shit on legends like it’s bad to admire them? I wonder if there are two issues at hand here : 1) Whether Bruce Lee was more proficient at practicing the martial arts , which perhaps is where Tarantino disagrees with other critics( in other words , that Tarantino thought other martial artists were better at competitive martial arts than Lee was) ; OR 2) that critics believe that as an ON SCREEN PRESENCE , Lee was unsurpassed. That Lee had more charisma , more acting skill than other martial artists. Perhaps what's being compared here are two different and separate things.

A lot of people back then didn't even know what martial arts was until they saw bruce lee. He brought the art to a whole generation of people. Bruce Lee was one of the fastest people alive, and one of the most dedicated martial artists. He wasn't "just an actor" but a thinker and a philosopher too.

I feel if anything Bruce was underrated. I believe that he never showed his true potential or was on his way to. I also believe he was very subtle in some of his notes about crossing the line of human to supernatural in becoming a being that is one with everything and channeling energy into the human body from the universe. Also intuition of potential threats in so many words. To harness a flow of energy that can strike like lightning. For instance.....there is a shrimp called a Pistol Shrimp. This shrimp can snap its claw so fast that it creates a flash dispersing water in the bottom of the ocean with heat that is equal to the energy released from the sun. Think about that. A tiny living shrimp snaps its claw so quick it releases the power of the sun for a millisecond. It's so loud it messes with the sonar of a Nuke Submarine. This shrimp is the size of a silver dollar. Now put your whole hip into it and SNAP IT. HAPPY HALLOWEEN

On top of that, many legends within the legitimate Martial Arts community thought highly of Bruce Lee, all saying he was the real deal. For the final word (go ahead; you tell him he doesn’t have the Final Word), you should speak with Chuck Norris, who was not only friends with him, but sparred Bruce Lee and even learned a thing or two from him. He’ll set you straight on Bruce Lee. You may dislike Bruce Lee, especially considering his name is an industry unto itself, but you cannot say he was nothing more than a Hollywood Martial Artist. I have seen a video here on YT where Van Williams is explaining Bruce's attitude and his interactions with the stuntmen. Bruce, coming from Hong Kong, was used to strike for real since that was the practice. But once they pointed out the differences, he adjusted. If he truly was arrogant, he wouldn't have cared. I think this whole thing with Bruce Lee doesn't even have to do with Bruce, but more with someone who is a fan. And that someone has hurt Tarantino which he is still disgruntled about. Tarantino is the arrogant one. If it weren't for Hong Kong Cinema he wouldn't be where he was today.
