Thanks Steve! Ya it amazes me how many people are telling me there is no SDE? I'll admit it's not bad, but it certainly is there. I guess you and I must just be hyper sensitive to it? I've also had several of my viewers tell me the Quest Pro has the same problem, and I hadn't heard that before now either. It is certainly not enough to be a deal breaker, but people should be aware of it.

I got mine today and I'm quite impressed with it, I totally agree with you on every point. One big positive that should be mentioned too is how big the sweetspot is now, you can look to the sides and read text without having to move your head which is just great. Absolutely everything about it is much better thant on Quest 2, it's a big leap in quality in every single aspect. Only one thing is worse, and that's the SDE that you mention in your video. I wasn't expecting that, it's not a big deal and nothing to do with how it was on the OG Rift or anything, far from it, but it was something I had totally forgotten about with Q2 and now it's made a bit of a slight comeback. Not a major issue at all, I guess it's the tradeoff of canting the lenses to get a wider FOV but yes, it's definitely there. On the other hand getting that extra FOV more than makes up for that. I have to do more testing but I tried a few games via VD with the new AV1 codec and everything looked fantastic. That and the wider FOV might make me ditch my Index and only use Q3 for now, at least until an Index 2 or similar is out. All in all, a fantastic headset IMO, totally worth the price.

Thank you for taking the time to make such a detailed comment. It's good to know other people are having the same experience I am. You're right about the sweet spot I just don't think to mention that because inherently any pancake or aspherical lens has a big sweet spot. I'll try to remember to mention it in my full review. I'm so glad you're enjoying your Quest 3 and thanks for watching!
@dtrjones
@dtrjones 10 ай бұрын
Your use of sweetspot is incorrect. The sweetspot in the past was used interchangable between what is known as the eyebox (where your eyes are positioned to get a clear image) and edge-to-edge (where your eyes a are looking to get a clear image). The proper interpretation for sweetspot is with defining the size of the eyebox which pancake lenses are probably the best in the business and fresnel lenses are terrible at.
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 10 ай бұрын
@@dtrjonesthank you for your explanation. For me the "Sweet Spot" is where the vision is the best and I think most people think of it similarly so in reality as long as I'm getting my point across that is what is important to me. I even refer to the "Sweet Spot" in aspheric lenses as the point where you don't get any distortion (or at least minimize it). Thanks again for the comment.

I have the Quest Pro, but the following should also be valid and help for tweaking the Quest 3. For PCVR for nearly no loss of compression you can set the Bitrate in the oculus debug tool to 960mbit. You have to copy/paste the number e.g. from notepad. Otherwise it will not be accepted. And as always SS helps a lot. I run it at the highest setting in the oculus app and add 1.3 SS on top of that. And the headset can be charged while being used for PCVR. But you have to use an PD injector with enough power.

I'm about half through the vid. Glad to know you see a lot of positives with this. It looks like you are mostly covering the visuals / specs, so I thought I'd ask, which is the most important thing to me: is Meta / Facebook / Zuckerberg, etc, going to lull into their empire in any way, either directly or indirectly. Directly being they require you to create an "account" so you can "utilize all of their other fabulous services and experiences." Indirectly being they could still track your IP addresses and information, even though you don't give it, and of course have you in books. I'm really against stuff like that, and it's very, very important to me.

Hey mikem, yes I'm right there with you and hence why I vowed never to support Facebook/Meta ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qapdfNdykpbDdYE.html ). The simple answer to your question is Yes, probably based on their history. As for making a "Meta" account, that is typical I mean we obviously have "Steam" accounts too and obviously not connecting the VR account with the Facebook account is huge, but I still don't trust that company in general and if anyone was going to find a way to use your info, my money would be on Meta over everyone else. One of the funny things about all this is that the Quest 3 NOT having eye tracking is actually a big positive from this privacy perspective... that was one of my concerns with the Quest Pro, who know how much tracking data they are gathering. Anyway, if that is you primary concern, I'd say skip any meta product because I can't say they aren't doing some shady stuff in the background. Thanks for watching.

@@GYGOtv The trick with Meta is buy the HMD to do PCVR, and buy all your stuff on Steam, my guess is Meta doesn't make much money on the HMD itself but make a fortune with their overpriced accessories and the software on the Quest Store. Very astute observations. Many other reviewers I have to listen intently and pick out what I think is important information. With you I can relax and just enjoy the review. I ask myself ‘why is this so’ and what I come up with is I think it’s an IQ thing. Anyway, I ordered one of these, should be here tomorrow. I have Quest 2 and G2. I was blown away when I first got my G2 because I realized how much more comfortable the VR experience was with the Display Port and low latency. If only they had made a G3 with these lenses ! I am skeptical how much I’m gonna like this Q3 for PCVR but I’m willing to give it a try and it at least should be good for some stand alone. Good review, thx

Hey GT, I don't know if I'd buy a Quest 3 if you are really enjoying the Crystal (unless you have some Oculus games you want to play). Can you test the latency of this vs a Displayport PCVR headset like the G2 or Aero? From the reviews I've seen it looks like the Quest 3 has 45-50ms latency both wired and wireless because of the encoding/decoding that is required. And since you have experience with many VR headsets, do you notice the difference in latency personally?
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 10 ай бұрын
I'll try to figure out if I can get an actual number for you, but either way I will get a feeling for it and let you know in the review. I can say right now that my initial flight in DCS felt pretty good but let me try some shooters because I bet I would notice the lag a lot more in there. I know the speed of the network and even the quality of the link cable can play a big roll in that so just be aware when you see other people testing it as well. I suspect the issue will be more dependent on the data transfer rate vs. the decoding because of that new Snapdragon chip... but we will see. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks! I know there are many variables. KZfaqr "SteveKnows" did some latency tests and low 40's seemed to really be the best he could achieve on the Quest2/3. AV1 vs HEVC codec, Older XR2 vs newer XR2 chip, wired vs wireless. They were all in that range of latency. Although the quality and stability was better on the Quest 3. If displayport headsets can drop that number to

@@Dex2R7That is interesting, I'll have to look that video up. Realistically I don't think you are going to notice a difference between 40ms and 20ms and I don't even think it will impact your game much but will try it out and let everyone know. I haven't researched it, but display port headsets shouldn't really have any latency because you are just displaying the native signal from the video card? There is no encoding/decoding processing to be done. As for the Apple Vision Pro, there is no way I can afford that thing (I personally buy all the headsets I test), and honestly it isn't going to be a gaming headset anyway so it doesn't really fit into what I like to do. Thanks for watching and the comments, you have given me some good ideas to add to my Quest 3 testing.
@Dex2R7
@Dex2R7 10 ай бұрын
@@GYGOtv I know it's expensive but you do own some quite expensive headsets so I wasn't sure. Yeah, 40ms to 20ms won't matter in most situations. But I did want to try to play some FPS, and fighting games while using the headset as a display. And you don't have to be pro level to notice 40ms when you're moving a mouse. But those are really novelty use cases. I'm going to go ahead and order the Quest 3 and then look for a cheap G2 in the coming months. The Quest 3 is too good of an all around headset like you said. I'll easily get $500 of entertainment out of it.

I stuck with the strap on my headset on my Quest 2 for way too long. It's such a massive improvement in usability that I think it's essential. When I upgrade to the Quest 3 I'll be grabbing the BoboVR M3 Pro straight away. Both for the comfort and for the hot swappable batteries. I'll definitely be getting the 512GB version as well. I have a 256Gb Quest 2 and I've already used 128GB, despite the fact that I mostly use it for PCVR and don't keep any videos on there. Also most existing games are increasing in size (even on the Quest 2) with the enhancements being done to the assets to take advantage of the Quest 3. For instance Red Matter 2 is jumping from 5.6GB to 9.1GB, Espire 2 is jumping from 7GB to 12GB and Hubris is going from 5.2GB to 8.2GB. Also, since MR isn't usable on PCVR, there's likely going to be more apps I want to keep on the headset. I got Demeo on Quest instead of Steam purely for the MR mode update they did (it's cross-buy, so I've still got it for PCVR, but MR makes more difference for me than the minor PCVR improvements in graphics and performance). Lastly, I setup a dedicated wifi 6E access point for VR use (TPLink RE815XE range extender in access point mode) a week or so back. Even with the Quest 2, having an uncontested 1200mbps 5ghz (wifi 6) network is such a huge improvement the link cable is barely worth using anymore. The only remaining reason to use it, is for not needing to swap batteries (so long as you have a USB C port capable of adequate power delivery, or one of the cables that uses 1 USB C port and one USB A port for additional power).

Crystal visually is still the best, technically the Crystal is 35ppd and the Quest 3 is 25ppd and the difference is visually noticeable. Visually what’s quest 3 look like VS reverb g2?
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 10 ай бұрын
Hi biosliege, that is the exact question I've been asking myself as both have pros and cons. Obviously the G2 does not have visible screendoor while the Q3 does. The G2 also has the benefit of the Display Port which gives it the best possible signal vs. the data stream that the Q3 uses via USB-C or Network. And then the big one, those Pancake lenses are edge to edge clarity vs. the G2's Fresnel lenses. If you are putting me on the spot, right now, I'd say the G2 is still better for Sim type games but I think the Quest 3 would be a better experience for more casual games... especially with the controllers being more standard on the Quest. I hope that helps and stay tuned, after more testing I might have a better answer for you.

@GYGOtv Thanks! I love your channel and value your opinion. Like you mentioned in this video, some of this is a bit subjective for each user, and I'll keep that in mind. I never thought I'd be in a position where I may be running more than one headset at a time, but here I am! Even though quest 3 may not totally work out for me for all scenarios, I feel compelled to try it: Too many pros and not enough cons. Even if it isn't the best for sims, it really would be nice just for a casual headset to play other stuff with a lot less hassle. I am also very curious to try the better lenses. All that I really know is fresnel. I'll probably just buy virtual desktop on the meta store, and then keep buying PC VR games and stream them, since my ultimate focus is the best quality possible within my budget. I see some folks use battery packs to extend the play time. Bigscreen beyond tempts me, but I don't have lighthouses, and I live in a hot/humid area and not sure about the facial interface, so I'll wait and see how that develops. I'm clearly a PC VR person looking for an interesting stop-gap and an occasional fun diversion, and this may well fit that bill better than current alternatives. My first headset was the Quest 1, prior to the G2. Ever since switching to WMR on the G2, I enjoyed the quality visual upgrade, but really miss the wonderful Oculus/Meta tools/apps/environment and controllers. Thanks again!

Even if the resolution isn’t quite the same, I’d honestly be hard pressed to notice unless I had both headsets side by side to compare. But the increase in clarity across the whole FOV is immediately noticeable. Not to mention the general ease-of-use is so much better. I can just pop it on and use my hands to open Virtual Desktop. With how good the passthrough is, I can stand up and walk around the room, check my phone, pet the dog, etc. without having to take it off. And for casual VR games, the controller tracking, haptics, and overall wirelessness blows the G2 out of the water.

Good first impression video, I had to laugh at many places since you are new to Stand Alone HMDs. I've had the Quest-2 since launch (the 64gb model, but hey, it has the Oculus logo at the front), I also own a Pico 4, this is the headset that I'll be comparing to when I get my Quest-3 (Monday). As for price, in Canada, we have to bend over a lot further, $650 for 128gb and $850 for 512gb models, so as you can imagine, the Quest 3 accessories from Meta are outrageously priced, example.... $95 for the plain Elite strap, that's a hell of a markup for $5 worth of plastic. What you might want to do is use a Link Cable, in the Oculus software, up the resolution and test something like AC (Not ACC), and see how the compression is for distance viewing, looking down the race track at far away items, this is where compression of stand alone HMD fail, in my G2, everything is pretty clear and crisp even in the distance, with my Quest 2 or Pico 4, it's a blurry mess. For up close game play, these stand alone HMDs do very well, HL Alyx is beautiful in the Pico 4, but if outside (starting Scenes), in the distance, the compression is visible, but mostly looks really good since most of the game is indoors or in dark caves. Looking forward to seeing your full review. Enjoy! :)

@@GYGOtvI think you can still increase the bitrate manually up to 500 Mbps, it's an exe in the Oculus folder, but you have to use USB to get there. For wireless, VP has always worked better for me than airlink, heck, when I got my Q2 it wasn't even available.

Just a update, I got my Quest-3 yesterday, I haven't tried using a Link Cable yet but from what I hear, it's not great (Oculus Rift PC software needs updates), but using Virtual Desktop, OMG, this is the closest thing I've seen from a Stand Alone HMD to my Reverb G2, I tried it with AC watching a replay, the clarity was the best I've seen in a Stand Alone HMD, I couldn't see any compression like with the Quest-2 or Pico 4. The bonus over the G2 was edge to edge clarity of the pancake optics and a better FOV than the G2 (Facial interface set to as close to lenses as possible). So far, I am blown away by the Quest 3, my biggest gripe is the facial interface, it's uncomfortable, feel "abrasive" (for lack of a better word), I have a silicone cover coming for it late next week. So far, I am loving the Quest 3.

@@jackr.749Thanks for the update Jack, I spent the morning doing basically the same thing. I played a ton of wireless PCVR titles through Virtual Desktop and they all looked really good. Saw some weird distortion a few times but it was really minimal. I'm thinking with a 6E Router the Quest 3 would be fantastic if it is this good on an old 5Ghz router. Unfortunately I'm only getting just over 2 hours on the battery, but as soon as it charges again I'm going to do some driving to test that out too. This might become the headset I do my roomscale in vs. the Crystal... it is just so much more lighter. I guess we will have to wait and see how good the Crystal wireless is, but it has some strong competition right now with how the Quest 3 looks. The bar is pretty high here Pimax!

@@GYGOtv Actually, I can't see a wifi 6e router making much difference with Virtual Desktop since the max mbps you can now set for the Quest 3 is 200mbps, so even wifi 5 should be able to keep up with a clean wifi connection. I can't wait to see how much better this headset is over the Quest 2, will there be a big difference in the graphics with playing pcvr games over the Quest 2? I am already impressed with playing pcvr games on the Quest 2 now, I just ordered the Quest 3 512 GB with a Elite strap with battery, because I never use the default strap the headset comes with, the Elite strap with battery is a must buy accessory for me, more comfortable to wear and longer battery life on the headset, and I heard Meta made the Elite strap more durable this time, which is good, the bigger storage option for me is a must, I'll be able to have more games on it, a bigger FOV is a plus also, when vr cover comes out with a facial interface for the Quest 3, I'll most likely buy one for the headset, vr cover has the best facial interfaces for vr headsets, I've been waiting all year for the Quest 3 to come out, every Oculus or Meta headset that I have owned so far has been good and worth the buy

Being able to look around the headset and everything looks clear is almost indescribable, you just need to experience it for yourself. I can't really answer how different the games will be from the Quest 2 because this is my first Quest. I will say the new Snapdragon chip will allow faster network transfer which should mean less compression and artifacting on the image, but I'll have to test that more to see. Stay tuned for my further review and enjoy your Quest 3 in the meantime.

Hi, can you help me? What headset would you recommend if you had a entertainment business in flying fighter jets with DCS? Consider software friendly, different users throughout the day, robustness and still a good immersive experience. No need for fancy secondary stuff like hand tracking. Pure game play experience. Also I see you use a motion platform. How does this work with inside or outside tracking? Thank for your time and your channel. Feels really genuine. With regards, Dave
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 10 ай бұрын
Hi Dave, thanks for watching the channel, I'm happy to help. I'd probably recommend the Varjo Aero, with the only downside being you need an additional audio solution. The Crystal is too big and heavy to be comfortable for everyone and the Quest 3 doesn't use a display port and seems to run out of batteries very quickly. The only other real contender might be the Upcoming Pico 5 Pro Max which will have the display port and will be small and light similar to the Quest 3, but we don't have a release date yet, and at this time it is not officially supported in the USA if that is where you are. If you are not trying to provide the top tier experience, you could also look at the HP Reverb G2, which is nearing the end if it's life cycle BUT is still considered a great simming headset and also has great built in audio along with comfort. It's downside is smaller FOV (field of view) and also uses old Fresnel lenses which get blurry as you look toward the edges. If you can afford to do Motion Platforms, they add SO MUCH to the immersion and feeling of flight. This is a whole other discussion if you are serious so let me know what you are thinking (you can also email me if you want this discussion to be more private). If you decide to go this route, you will need to add "Motion Compensation" to the motion rig. There are generally 2 ways to do this depending on what VR Headset and motion rig you choose but it works with the rigs and is a great experience. I'd imagine you will be doing several units if you are starting a business so let me know if this is something you plan to move forward with. I'm fortunate enough to have contacts with both DOF Reality (motion rig) and Varjo for the headset if you choose that one. I might be able to get you some sort of deal if you are buying in bulk. Otherwise, if you are just buying a few, please consider using my affiliate links for the headset and you can also use the code "gygo" with DOF Reality to get a small discount on your purchases. Hope that helps and please let me know if you have any other questions. -Mark

I'm waiting for mine to be delivered today as an upgrade from Quest 2 that was also an upgrade from an Index... overall, seems like a worthy upgrade, as long as i pay for the cheaper option to justify. It's tough, because i know I'll eventually wish I'd have more space, but i will play more pc vr than stand-alone... though i do have a bunch of Quest 2 games... and I'll likely be getting a few more standalone only with Quest 3... but that $150 I'll have toward a future upgraded HMD maybe in a couple years. One new concern I'm getting now from hearing of your noticing of SDE is the angle of the screens (canted) now. I have great eyes/vision, so i hope i don't notice it though. I really am hoping ....😢

I think that new XR2 chip along with the new AV1 codec from the 4000 series Nvidia cards is doing great. Good video! In regards to the battery, what about plugging the usb c into a wall outlet? That'll charge much faster than a computer port. I'm a crystal user so I'm glad you made honest comparisons. I plan to test out plugging it into both the wall and also the battery packs I currently use to power my wireless Vive Pro. Since the headset seems to negative charge, I don't think those are going to keep it running indefinitely, but if we could get upwards of 4 hours or so that would be a big help. As for a light weight 3D movie headset, maybe... I think the screen door effect would concern me a little along with the weird tilted screens because you are going to see that line around the virtual screen and it will look jaggy and might throw off the feeling. I'll try to test it out so stay tuned for the full review. Thanks for the comment and suggestion.

Ouch, that problem with the battery life is huge... Aside from that, it sounds very much like my experience with the Pico 4. Huge lenses and feels like a generational leap forward from the 2020-2021 headsets. Though, the passthrough with the Pico is just for convenience. Not mixed reality experiences. The Pico is able to play indefinitely without battery drain, if you keep it plugged in or use the BoboVR battery pack/strap. Once you experience high quality wireless PCVR it's hard not to think wireless is the future. I think with a 6e connection or a dedicated dongle it will be a no brainer.

Hi Cujobob, well if you have watched my channel for very long you know I LOVE deep black levels so I agree with you on how important they are. To be honest however, since seeing how badly even the local dimming does for this (in the Crystal), I'm convinced the only way to get the black levels where we would like them is with OLED screens. The nice thing about the Quest 3 is that it at least has an easy to access brightness control and I was able to get the blacks dark enough to at least enjoy the experience. I'd love to see a headset like this use OLEDs (The Big Screen Beyond does, but the FOV is small and it has glare), but I haven't heard of any coming soon that will do that. Finger's crossed that someday we get our OLED screens back in VR. Thanks for the comment and for watching.

What you think between meta quest 3 vs. Varjo aero ? For simracing and generally?
@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 10 ай бұрын
Hi gaming-fuel6250, I've been putting together my thoughts on that. I think it comes down to 2 things, do you already have lighthouses and controllers or will you need those too? Second, how important is the vertical FOV to you? If you already have lighthouses/controllers and the vertical FOV isn't as big a deal then I think the Aero is a better experience. There is no screen door effect and you have a direct connection to your PC's display port and you even have that cooling fan that helps keep your lenses from fogging up in the Aero and keeps your face cooler. If however, you would have to also buy lighthouses and controllers then I think the Quest 3 is the best option. It gives you almost as good of visuals as the Aero and is lighter and cheaper too. You will have to contend with the limited battery life so you'll want to either get external batteries to plug into the USB-C on the headset, or look at a headstrap that has more power, or you can just plug directly into the PC or Wall Adapter to get a little more juice. I'm personally looking at the Bobo M3 (whenever it comes out) because I love the hot swap battery design it uses. I guess one final thing to consider would be how good is your router and wifi in your house. With my wifi 5 I'm getting great visuals with Virtual Desktop, but if you have an older or congested network you will certainly not get as good of visuals with the Quest 3. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions, and thanks for watching.

@GYGOtv
@GYGOtv 10 ай бұрын
Welcome to this awesome world Felipe! There really isn't a "Sweet spot" in Pancake lenses like there used to be in the old Frensnel lenses, so everything should look pretty good no matter how you have the headset on. A little distortion and blurriness at the edges is probably normal but if things are blurry in general then there is a problem. My guess would be you might not have your IPD (the distance between your pupils) set properly, you can either get your IPD from your eye doctor, or there are apps to tell you your IPD... or you could just experiment with the little dial and see if the image gets clearer. If not, you might have a defective headset. Keep in mind, VR isn't a perfect representation of the real world, it will always look a bit different, but it shouldn't be really bad. Also, any video you see on KZfaq were captured on the computer unless it is actual through the lens footage, so you can't use that as what the headset really looks like when wearing it. Hope that helps.

Hi nashfan, this seems to be the question of the day and again I've only started testing but let me see if I can offer some advice. To be honest, I think if you are just doing MSFS, I'd probably steer you toward the Varjo Aero. It gives you the best of both worlds, with the only downsides being the need for Lighthouses and obviously the limited vertical FOV. It might end up costing a little more, but I think the experience for your situation would be best. Lighthouses are not that hard to set up and the lighthouse tracking is the best out of all the headsets. The best part is you can expect about the same performance from the Aero as you are currently getting from the HPG2 (infact I actually got slightly better performance from the Aero). I wondered the same thing, but it doesn't look like it right now. Maybe the Flight Sim guys will add that functionality in... that would be so cool! Thanks for the question.

Good that you consider this a generational leap. I had better visual quality several years ago when I bought the HP Reverb (the original) for 440€ when it came out. Sure, it didn't have finger tracking, but it still has better image quality than this because it has a DP. Oh, and the Pico 4 has nearly all the characteristics of the Q3, with pancake lenses, same resolucion, better ergonomics (the thong in the Q2 and 3 is a joke), it is cheaper, and it came out over a year ago. Enjoy your Quest 3.

Thanks for your take as always valrond. So I'd question what you mean by the HP Reverb is "better" because you had fresnel lenses and a pretty small FOV if I remember correctly. Yes it had a display port, but that is what surprised me was the compression wasn't really that noticeable in the Q3 so I certainly wouldn't trade the compression vs. fresnel lenses and smaller fov (but to each their own). As for the Pico, I can't speak to that because it's not officially supported here in the USA but it is my understanding the colors are not as good and it has a smaller fov too. Again, everyone should choose the headset that fits what is important to them, and all I'm trying to do is point these things out so people can decide for themselves. Enjoy your Pico and when the new ones come out I bet they will be even better so I'm glad you have a headset that fits your needs. Appreciate you watching as always.

What Pico doesn't have is all the exclusive games that you will only be able to play on Quest and that's a HUGE difference, mainly the main reason I wouldn't buy a Pico myself. If you only play PCVR then yes, there might be better options for you, I'd personally wait for the Pico Max with DP and its crazy resolution but as far as standalone goes I don't think there's anything better than Quest 3 right now. Also, Meta doesn't give a *** abot PCVR, we're even lucky they have Airlink and allow VD to work but adding a DP port is probably not in their plans now or in the future. Comparing Quest 3 to other devices that do have it is not something they worry about, that's not a part of business they're interested in.

@@GonzaxThanks for the comment Gonzax, it's great to hear from people who have experience with this stuff out there. As for the PCVR side, I know that isn't a big focus for Meta but I know my viewers will be interested, especially if like me they have lots of Steam games that they would want to still use on the Quest 3. I know for me, no PCVR support on the Quest 3 would be a deal breaker for sure. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, absolutely, same for me. I am mostly a PCVR player so an option for PCVR playing is not only welcome but almost mandatory. What I meant to say is that in the end software is king and for most people, those who play all types of games at least, that matters more than having a DP port or not, considering many people don't even have a capable PC for VR and is certainly not any type of priority for Meta. For us who play PCVR mostly and even more for simracers, that option is a must-have and I wish it was included but I don't see it happening in the future in any Meta headset which doesn't change the fact, as the Pico user seemed to suggest, that Quest 3 is still a fantastic headset overall and a real generational leap IMO. If I had to recommend a headset to a new VR user it would be without a doubt the Quest 3.

@@GYGOtv It looks better because the image is crisper and it isn't smeared because of the compression. And that was, I had to check, over FOUR years ago. I was already using 2160x2160. Much better than anything back then and it still holds up pretty well, although I barely use them. I have better things now, heck, I own over 10 VR HMDs now, starting with the HTC Vive. Yeah, you can try to blame the lenses or the FOV, lenses on the reverb were fine, very little godrays and glare, unlike the Index or the Vive Pro 2. The FOV has never bothered me, bit confort has, and the Quest 2 wss the most uncomfortable headset I have ever used, and it was cause I spent some money in a decent solution. For sims, DP is a must compression just kills all of the detail not right in front of you. Anyway, now I use an Aero for sims, everything else just looks like crap compared to it (I haven't tried the Crystal, it was too big and heavy for me).

I have both of them and quest 3 pancake lenses and much higher resolution looks a lot better but if you play something like vrchat and need steamvr tracking switching would be troublesome. Bigscreen beyond would probably be the upgrade for index but its $1000.

Hey Mark, I did not expect you to buy a Quest 3! It's a very solid headset for the money. I've returned mine as I still prefer the Quest Pro for PCVR with its local dimming and better colours, but Quest 3 is better for standalone and mixed reality. The headsets are too similar for me to justify keeping both, but Quest 3 is very good value for the money.

Hey Kevinbrook, I didn't expect to ever buy ANY Quest products but enough of my viewers have an interest in it so I thought I should probably give it a shot. I can honestly say I'm not disappointed as you could probably see in the video. I can see where the Quest 3 is too close to the Quest Pro, that you wouldn't need both. Maybe the Quest 4 will bring a big enough change. Anyway, thanks for the comment and the support as always!

@@GYGOtv they are great as all purpose headsets, that you can take anywhere and do pretty much anything with. I may well buy one again in a few months, I really liked it, I just don't play mobile games or use MR to justify keeping it. @@GYGOtv Amazon didn't turn up to collect today so I still have mine and tempted to get it back out of the box again. My dilemma is I prefer the Pro for PCVR but obviously Quest 3 will be much better for mobile. But having a 13900k, 4090 PC I feel like I'm wasting money if I try mobile. But I also feel I'm missing out if I don't. Have you tried any mobile games yet?

@@kevinbrook7033Just Tales from Galaxies Edge so far, and I'm a Star Wars fan so that thing could probably look like an old Atari 2600 game and I'd still love it. I'm going to mess around with some of the other games today and also more PCVR so I can get a better feel for that experience. I'm not really that excited about the Stand Alone because I'm pretty picky and coming from PCVR Sims I'm kind of expecting to be disappointed but I'll at least give them a try. I feel for your decision, that is a tough call, please let me know how it goes.
