New sub here. Great vid! When i did my pipe repair i used a 12v car air compressor that stayed threaded on the valve stem and showed current pressure on the guage. Pumped up to 40-50 and the heat bumped that upto 60-70. I didnt let it any more then that

If i can add some advice? I've done many many bikes myself and like i said im not telling you what to do but i think you're using to much heat and not enough air pressure. As hot as your getting the pipe its going to take away the temper making the pipe more susceptible to bending again and easier. Ive done the same thing and trust me please, less heat and higher air pressure.

Cork the ends with air pressure inside, dip in a tub of water or brush with a soapy solution. Mark the areas for welding.

@@AlbertaMountainPirates May 2024, just checked the AMP YT site and don't see a video for leak checking or welding pipes. Did you do one (or more)?
@AlbertaMountainPirates
@AlbertaMountainPirates 14 күн бұрын
@@ljprep6250 i did not. I havent had a pipe with that kind of damage since i made this video(thankfully.. LOL ) But heres a quick tip for you. >> Basically, if you cant visually see a hole or a crack, follow the procedure in this video, And when you fill it up, and heat it, You will likey hear air escaping, and you may see a small bit of oil begin to develop on the outside where the suspected hole would be. be sure to mark it, Let the pipe cool, and then remove any air in there safely. >>>Once you have the pipe marked and it can be handled, Get yourself a brazing torch ( i use an oxy mapp torch) and fix the hole using brazing. Its much better than welding and will be less hassle and cause less damage to the existing material. Brazing can take a bit of practice, and the upfront cost is certainly a bit of an investment, And the oxygen bottles dont last very long, So you should work as quickly as you can safely. You may also want to practice on another piece of metal that is less imprtant, But a similar thickness so you get the feel for it, Because a brazing torch can easily melt the stainless to a puddle causing a huge hole if you are careless. Hope this helps!

What do you think of the pressure washer method to fix dents
@AlbertaMountainPirates
@AlbertaMountainPirates Жыл бұрын
personally havent tried it, but have seen it. I feel like, Heat makes metal malleable. Cold doesnt. i prefer to use heat if possible, But im sure there are some situations where the pressure washer or freezing works better
@2887bigbird
@2887bigbird 2 жыл бұрын
I do the same with my pipes. Biggest issue I have right now is guys bringing me their pipes back after I've blown them out saying it's not lining up. The pipe gets bent most of the time. Using water pressure allows the pipe to bend back into shape
@AlbertaMountainPirates
@AlbertaMountainPirates 2 жыл бұрын
certainly an issue. As i mentioned, the risk for the pipes getting damaged is higher using ice. If using water, It would be advisable to use a pressure washer. But hey, Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
@tonymarshall9670
@tonymarshall9670 Жыл бұрын
I'd want the whole bike. That way you are fitting the pipe back on. That gives you the opportunity to fit even though it may be a bad fit and tight to line up. But get it on and heat it up in a couple of the right places. It will lose all its tension and settle back into place. It doesn't take a lot of heat just get it hot not glowing. I've weld repaired plenty of them. That was best way I found to finalise repair work. Once it cools remove and refit to make sure it's easy back to a snug fit.

What type of torch are you using, and is that propane? I put 90 psi to my pipe, and it's very hard to heat the pipe and take dents out. I think I need something that transfer a lot of heat.

Can you fix bent pipes as well or just dents?
@AlbertaMountainPirates
@AlbertaMountainPirates Жыл бұрын
Depends on the damage. Sometimes bent pipes are repairable, Sometimes they are not. Twists at the header are very challenging to fix, And often it becomes a case of Lets just make it work, Rather than make it look l like new. All depends on the damage like i said. The pressure washer method has better success but a higher chance of damaging or exploding the pipe making the problem worse. Hence why i stick to the heat method. Pipes heat and cool as part of their job, So heating and cooling is less likely to damage it than cold water forcing it

@2strokin70
@2strokin70 2 жыл бұрын
Its just the cone in the flame from your torch.. there are many different tips that you can get for oxy-acetylene setups that you can use for either heating or cutting you can use the cutting tips without cutting anything you just wouldn't hit the oxygen lever so it wouldn't blow through is often how I would bend seal Channel whenever I was making these shoes for vacuum lifting pipe. I could stop most of the defamation of the center of the seal Channel by heating up just the sides of it and allowing it to be bent a lot easier and faster as well if you have a oxy-acetylene setup you could probably use any tip you had as far as that goes you can literally heat up that little tiny creased Bend and it get it hot super fast allowing it to pop out really easy but not getting everything smoking hot. I sure hope that helped a little bit I am not the greatest at explaining things sometimes

yes of course. Usually when following the basic precautions such as not pressurizing it past 80, Wearing protective gear, and ensuring things are tight it works just fine. you really have to make sure the brackets fit well and can be tightened down very solid. Washers work in most cases to add more purchase, Or in some cases, you could use a piece of tie wire to help hold the bracket in place if your seal is decent. but not every pipe will support the tie wire.. To be fair, it certainly takes some practice and trial and error to get it just right. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Im happy to try to help you get it working
