Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was trying to figure out how to attach my binoculars to my tripod for tomorrow's eclipse and thought I would need to make a trip to the store to purchase an adapter. I quickly found the parts I needed in our toolbox and now my binoculars are attached and ready to go! No money spent! Thank you again! You're awesome!

I'm glad it was helpful! Good luck tomorrow and I hope we all have fair skies for the eclipse.

I just bought a pair of Perrini 12 - 40 x 80 binoculars and was brainstorming that exact idea on a mounting hardware to my tripod. Thanks for the great video!

You sir, saved me because I only have 4 days until the lunar eclipse and can't find any sellers within my country which will ship that fast

Yes, I could have. But I wanted to make completely clear what it is that was done, because when I don't, then I have people messaging me to explain things in more detail. I like to be thorough. Thanks for watching/commenting, though :)

Aeryck de Sade I like this set up, is there a way to attach a camcorder to one of the eyepieces?
@AeryckdeSade9 жыл бұрын
Alex A I've not actually tried that, but I'm sure if you were to use a webcam it would be a piece of cake. I've done that with telescopes before using old webcams and it's pretty much a matter of just taping the cam to the eyepiece and getting focus.

Aeryck de Sade Right but then you would have to carry a laptop around, right?

Alex A Good point. Or you could try one of those little cams that store video on an SD card. They are cheap and everywhere nowadays. I also did a video about the little "spy cams" that I had mounted to a bicycle helmet. They cost under $20 on eBay and are rechargeable.

Nice job. Do you get much binocular shake now ?
@AeryckdeSade7 жыл бұрын
Not at all. Of course, the more stable your tripod, the less shake you'll get with anything attached to it. If you have a more economical tripod, it's best to either hang some sort of weight from the hook that most of them have, or brace the leg bottoms with something weighted.

Ours doesn't have any type of feature accessible for a tri pod. DANG!! Bad shoulders means minimal watching.

Yeah, unfortunately not all binoculars have the tripod adapter ability. There are some fairly inexpensive ones, much like what I use in this video, though, that do have the threaded insert. This particular pair was quite cheap, and has great optics and has lasted me for YEARS, even when I was a park ranger and carried them every day in the field and on the beach.
