I finally got rid of a large divided bookcase that sat on top of a beautiful buffet piece (which I love). I was constantly removing more and more items from the shelves. It just kept looking busy to me. When it was gone our house instantly became more open. We loved the new open look. We hung beautiful wildlife photos that we had taken ourselves. Those photos is where guests went to first. I am so happy that I was finally brave enouugh to seperate the two matching pieces and only keep what I love.

After nearly 32 years of marriage (& 3 kids) we realized that putting Christmas decor away in tubs labeled by room was a wonderful solution for keeping us organized! Currently going through 30+ years of pictures (ours as our family has grown and changed), including pictures from both sides of our family that we’ve inherited as our parents passed away… MAJOR project! 😭

Growing up I watched my mom move the furniture around twice a year when she did spring & fall deep clean. I have done it by habit all my adult life 🤷 Our Christmas decor consists of 1 box of decorations & my tree. Makes it easy to put out & put away. The only thing I check each year are my strings of lights before putting them up. Our decorations are a 3 foot prelit tree (in its own box) and a small box of lights, candles, cards, bead garland and velvet bows. That's it!

Bonus! I learned to make the Christmas lights in my living room window the white variety from you. Now when I take down my Christmas tree and lights soon, I'll be able to leave the white window lights up. I usually take them down by Valentine's day, but I also live far enough north to have very long dark days that need to cozy brightening. I signed up for the challenge! I have enjoyed your challenges in th epast.

I'd leave the shelves until it's time to put the TV elsewhere. Do it all at the same time. In the meantime, leave it as it is. If I got rid of all of it, I'd put a sitting area there and I'd put pretty artwork on the wall.

I like to leave my Christmas decor up until January 2nd. Then I go through everything I didn’t use this year and purge. Labels are wonderful because I have snowmen and various trees I decorate until spring. 1 bin.

I just decluttered a big cupboard which was mostly empty anyways. The pieces of it will be collected in a few days. One bulky item less, and decluttering the inside felt so good.

I used command strips, certain ones to put on the outer edge of the sides and backside of my desk to have my led lights glow without having the mess of the string on my desk. Just a tip.

I actually like you bookcase. But if you’re over it either of those console tables will work for your tv. The tv will be lower so make sure you measure where it is now. You might want to anchor the tv to the wall if the console you like best is too low. 😊

Boxing day we took down the Xmas decor but left out winter decor - made the house and us feel so much more relaxed. Weird I know but that's how we felt. What we noticed was in some areas we couldn't for the life of us remember what went in some spaces?!? We know we had a group of 3 on a particular shelf a small painting, a small plant and a ???? We're all having a good laugh cause it proves the point that you if don't need love it, need it or use it - then you can donate it. Perhaps over time we'll figure it out, but in the end we're not missing it🤣

I feel like you did about moving furniture around. When we were teenagers, my sister was always moving our furniture and I hated it. I like the second look better for a replacement; however, true to my nature, I don't think the bookcase you have there is fine.

I would keep the piece of furniture the TV is on, and just get rid of the shelves around it. It looks like they are separate pieces, right? It will look nice and less bulky, and doesn't cost you anything.

Same! I organize my books by subject, similar to the library system. I want to be able to put my hands on the book I want with no wasted time trying to remember color. Books are a necessity to me & the ones I keep get read repeatedly so efficiency is key!!
