Quick n' Dirty: Scripting an auto crossfader mix combined with mix effects in VDJ8.4/2020

This video shows how you can combine the automatic crossfader mix with the crossfader mix effects in VDJ, and add it as a script on a single button og keyboard key
Scripts used:
mix_now 8000ms
effect_mixfx_select 'echo' & effect_mixfx_activate ON
effect_mixfx_select 'echo' & effect_mixfx_activate ON & mix_now 8000ms
effect_mixfx_select 'filter' & effect_mixfx_activate ON & mix_now 8000ms
You may also want an OFF function to turn it off again:
effect_mixfx_activate OFF

What a great video Klaus! Thank you! Not only did I learn that there is a "Mix Now" feature, but also a "Mix FX." The extra added bonus of combining the two features on one Custom Button is sweet!

hi great tutorial but i have a question. when i do this on songs that are not compatible on the bpm or keys when i do it to mix now like u showed us it automatically syncs the bpm when i clicl the mix now, i have checked mark the no sync but still does it. what am i missing? i do not want the tracks to match bpms or keys. can you help

Hey, thanks for the video. I have a question, is there a way to add or subtract effects. For example, I don't like the reverb is there a way to get it out the default effects and add something like delay?

Yes, to remove a native effect simply right click it and select "ignore" To get other effects, either get them from "extensions" Or get external vst effects and add them - I have a video from a while back on how to do that

Hello Klaus, for the Pro and Performance modes, is there any way to create a new Pads list called "Mix FX" and have each effect in the numbered pads with a simple on and off feature in one script/one button? Thank you!

Sure. Simply create a new pad page and add script to the pads like effect_mixfx_select 'echo' && effect_mixfx_activate effect_mixfx_select 'filter' && effect_mixfx_activate Then each pad will be a toggle for that specific mix fx And when yo then select the pad page you can control the toggling from your controller (if it has a pad section)

Hie Klaus, is there a way to script the scratch dna feature with the crossfader so that when you apply scratch dna the crossfader will be moving in sync with scratch pattern applied. I think this will be cool when you are doing video mixing as the crossfader movement will be in sync with the transitions giving a cool cutting effect to the videos.

No I don't think so. The cutting is build into the scratch dna patterns, so it would only be a visual effect if it did

Hey Klaus i did some testing and found that the issue is my controller I am using the Roland 707M do you have any suggestions I have tried resetting the controller to factory setting and still have the issue I stated below about the crossfader. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

My guess is that the Roland 707M has a hardware based mixer built-in, so that VDJ doesn't handle the mixing between the decks. That is instead done by the physical mixer In that situation the software crossfader and in this case crossfader based scripts won't really work

Try looking at mix fx. They are on the essential layout Also take a look at the new video I just uploaded about "Ducking Echo"

Hi Klaus , thanks for this tutorial . I have succeeded in adding the mix now button but ive tried changing the speed/duration of the crossfade/mix you used the example of 8000ms ... i have tried from 1000-20000 but no matter what it doesnt change . i'm trying to set it to 20-30seconds ,i have noticed that when i go to mapping and adjust the settings the save icon stays grey (it wont allow me to save) Your assistance will be appriciated greatly .

I've just tested it using: effect_mixfx_select 'echo' & effect_mixfx_activate ON & mix_now 20000ms and that works fine in the latest VDJ release Maybe try testing it on a custom/user button to make sure the script works before adding it to the keyboard or a controller mapping?

i cant find the effect of the fade on the softwARE. virtual dj 7 had it but this one i cant seem to find the effect. help

I can't remember such an effect. What do you want to fade? The Master volume? The deck volume? Something else? If it's the crossfader then it's the "effect" in this video

There is no right click function on the user/custom buttons - right click goes to the edot pop-up But yes you can map this to a new button, or anything else (like a keyboard key or pad page pad) to turn it off: effect_mixfx_activate OFF

Hey Klaus I tried this auto crossfader mix combined with mix effects and I noticed that it would work the way it should however, when I would shut down Virtual DJ and restart the program the auto crossfader mix combined with mix effect would not work at all, which is very frustrating. I even reset Virtual DJ to factory setting and still the same thing. It would work when I first set it up but the moment I shut down Virtual DJ the script would not work when I reloaded Virtual DJ. I am not sure what to do to fix this problem as it I have tried it on two Mac computer and I get the same issue. I copied your script and followed the steps as you did it and still no success once I reload virtual DJ. If you can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Try this in the customs area do (effect_mixfx_activate) in another custom box (effect_mixfx_select) and you can just click to activate and click to change(select) the effect you want then use your crossfader to mix. hope it helps. I'm using the Mixars Primo controller
