A "Quick Pottery Video" on how to use shellac or wax resist to create a design on pottery.
Keep in mind this is just a quick video that I am sharing, no words, just simple and quick for you to get an idea of the process. I'm gonna try this now, I'm super excited! Does your pencil show up after the final firing without a glaze? Probably not? I'm gonna try and pit fire something

No the pencil does not show up, it's just guidelines for the wax application.

Your work is absolutely stunning.. In your experience, is it better to do the water etching at bone dry or leather hard?

Thank you so much! Bone dry seems to work best. If you apply the wax resist to leather hard it does not seem to hold up as well when it comes to the rubbing with the wet sponge.

@@TurkensRule I use wax, but you can use shellac, I just don't like the smell of it.

What was the final glaze used?

I used a clear glaze. Sometimes I will glaze shellac resist porcelain in a celadon type glaze, but this particular one was clear. You can see the final results on my website LuciaUrns.com. Thanks for taking a look!

Nope that is just the food coloring in the wax resist. It is not fired yet.

@@lucyfagellapottery Hi Lucy, I'm a potter. I know that's the wax resist with colouring. I meant the final glaze - I think it's a celadon and it's gorgeous. We've just developed some mid and high fire celadon types and they're perfect for wax resist or shellac resits. The pool in just the right places over the raised part. Thanks so much for your videos too. I direct my students to your site and instagram. Lu x
