After riding a 400 for a year and then a 650 i recently got a s1000r and it's silly how much power these big bikes got. No one needs even 100hp on the road let alone 165. Your licence can go out the window with just a twist of the throttle.

You got one! That's awesome man. Same model year as mine (05-07). I can hear the utter joy in your voice. I still feel the same way about my triple after 15 years of owning it. Other than the stator/rectifier debacle, that bike won't let you down. Over 80k miles on mine and the engine is still bulletproof and usually within spec for valve clearance/adjustments. I even picked up another used motor just in case lol, but I'll likely just build another triple from all the extra parts I've hoarded over the years. My one recommendation, is to use ethanol free fuel if it's available, or an ethanol neutralizing additive. That plastic tank might be susceptible to warping and blistering (mine did and I swapped it with a metal 08 tank +fuel pump, but I live in Florida where it's hella humid and the plastic+ethanol = a moisture vacuum, so maybe don't sweat it if humidity isn't a thing). Nice triple! Enjoy!!

Well it depends. Sure the bike is fast asf. But the torque and some of the horsepower is plenty usefull in some countries. I was on a holliday in Germany and Luxembourg with a SV 1000 albeit a little slower I were still able to go very fast and not speeding that much... all that torque is a godsend exiting hairpins. But I agree the speed triple is pretty much overkill for a street bike, even a street triple is overkill.

It’s not so much the power as it’s how the triple delivers it. I think the triple is the best engine configuration for a motorcycle. When I owned my Triumph, I felt their torque specs were always too high. I really can’t remember but I recall their torque spec for the drain plug too high. I torque that bolt to 14 lb/ft no matter what bike and I’ve never had a problem. It’s a high use bolt so I go easy on the threads.

It’s a great engine, I was surprised by how little revs it needs to make its power. I guess that’s a factor of a long stroke Setup. Noted on the torque settings, I’ll look into that.

Mate does your engine use oil? If yes then how much?
@ZediMaster
@ZediMaster Жыл бұрын
You missed the point of having more hp. Granted, street riders really don't need 40+ hp, but the technical adv of having 100+ hp is to preserve the engine life. Operating at legal highway speed for a 40hp engine will cause the engine to run harder all the time. Whereas, for a 100+ hp engine, highway speed is a walk in the park for these engines, which equates to not stressing the engine at all, other than rev bombings. As for motor oil for street usage, if you change oil every 3.5k miles, just stick with any name brand oil with JASO rating MA/MA2 (I personally use rotella T6, multi weight). Skip the motul $25/qt, and use the saving on gas money.
@Theillestrator1050
@Theillestrator1050 Жыл бұрын
"Granted, street riders really don't need 40+ hp", well that was my point about this; but even with what I was trying to say, as a city guy, i'd say the upper range of full use-ability is gonna be maybe like 60 to 80 hp really. Anything beyond that is kinda having your cake and eating it too so to speak, and there's nothing wrong with that. I was also speaking to a sort of fear factor that I have with this bike, its the quickest accelerating bike i've ever owned and on a small level it actually scares me lmao. With all of the "stuff" on NYC roads and on the side of NYC roads, its intense and I have no real interest in anything faster than this (but i said "im sure someone will answer" to acknowledge other people's wants/needs). Also, yes I understand the concept of an understressed engine. Regarding the oil, remember that I said in the video that I get Motul at a heavily discounted price, it basically gets cut in half for me and brings it down closer to the price of other higher end oils ($14 a quart for me)
@ZediMaster
@ZediMaster Жыл бұрын
@@Theillestrator1050 Although $14/qt for motul is a very good price, I have been buying rotella for $23.99/gallon, which equates to abt $6/qt. At that expense, I can change my oil and filter more frequently. Anyway, ride safe, god bless u.
@VasyaIvanovichPupkin
@VasyaIvanovichPupkin Жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that 300V is a racing oil. It is designed to run under more stress and temperature at the cost of longevity. So probably not ideal for year round NYC use. 7100 will suit you better. Personally, I have switched to VPRacing oil because of the SM grade base they use. No discernable difference so far, but I also have not put enough miles on it yet, to make comments.
@Theillestrator1050
@Theillestrator1050 Жыл бұрын
Yeah we had the whole discussion at Revzilla, and even reached out to Motul. We came to the consensus that it’s fine for daily use with reasonable change intervals (No more than 3,000 miles)
@VasyaIvanovichPupkin
@VasyaIvanovichPupkin Жыл бұрын
@@Theillestrator1050 Agreed. You just reminded me of another aspect that is almost entirely overlooked, and it is the oil age. 3000 miles is a lot to cove for most weekend warriors (I myself have become one. What with working form home and having a kid in the aforementioned home). Some people go a coule of years without an oil change and short runs here and there. That ruins the oil like nothing else. The moisture never gets evaporated but it does get mixed and heated enough for oxydation to accelerate. Just a PSA. )))
