A year in, and this Triumph Speed Triple makes wheelies no longer reduce my gut into liquid. How nice.

I can wheelie my Speed Triple better than I can wheelie any other motorcycle I’ve ever ridden. Dirt bikes included. First gear roll on and hang on. My skill level is about the same as yours.

I don't try to wheelie, as I cannot afford to make a mistake. Maybe if I had a little dirtbike to practice with, but it's not a priority. I have a gorgeous 1978 Yamaha xs1100 that the previous owner setup as a cafe racer, and I won't take crazy chances with her. Once, on my 1985 Ninja 600R, I accidentally let the clutch pop at a green light when I had just picked it up, and the front wheel came up about 6" from a dead stop. I was not able to repeat that feat intentionally again - out of fear of losing my baby. That Triumph is a wheelie dream machine - I have actually had recurring dreams over the years of riding a bike like that and feeling like a king!

@@stevebrzosko9793 I have a very clean, low mile, 09 orange Speed Triple. I rode it today riding many power wheelies like in the video. They’re fairly effortless and controlled due to the bikes linear power. The short wheelbase and torque mean the front end will also get light while going through the gears if you’re hard on the gas. It’s just the nature of the Speed Triple. I’ve also done track days on mine. I really love it and I don’t want to wreck it but the experience of riding it like a hooligan is truly addicting. I’ll add that I do these things on rural roads far from other drivers.

@@kenwolfe5697 Yes, but the beauty of wheely-ing is showing off! Back in the early 1980's, I was walking along a street late at night in Alphabet city, NYC (i.e. Avenues A, B, C, etc. - REALLY seedy area back then, and a guy in full leathers on a Suzuki Katana (1983?) Pulled up a high wheelie from a dead start on a green light (like 60 or more degrees), and I was permanently impressed, knowing that I would never be able to do something like that. I swear he did it just for me, as there was no one else around. He must have been a professional racer.

@@stevebrzosko9793 Very true! That’s an awesome story. I definitely can’t do that. Maybe if I was better and felt more comfortable I wouldn’t hesitate to show off. That reminds me of something that happened years ago- While on a motorcycle myself I saw someone in the opposite lane on a Ducati 999 take flight on a sharp, small hill on a rural road when I lived in Oregon. I still remember them soaring through the air and looking down at me. Legendary.

@@kenwolfe5697 If a bike can lift the front end at will with throttle alone, wheelying is a piece of cake, say on this Truimph "Speed Triple", or a CBR 900RR. I don't respect those guys as much as someone who can clutch pop a wheelie, and ride it - shifting up while on one wheel is also worthy of mucho respect!

I accidentally did a wheely on my Triumph speed four, scared the shit out of me! As your fan is running a lot in that heat, please check your regulator plugs under the tank. It will be drawing a lot of current and the plugs tend to melt and cause a fire, like mine did 😕

As someone with the exact same bike, I can confirm! the torque is insane on these bikes. It's not the highest peak number, but it's the fact that it makes its torque everywhere! My best friend has a 2021 MT-10 and that thing is a lot more unpredictable since it feels like it doesn't make power until higher rpm. Also, 1:50, trust me these bad girls will lift 3rd and 4th if you're on a hard pull!

This reminds me of my MT07. It also power wheelies easily in 1st and 2nd gear but mostly from the lower mid-range. I mean I know I can't compare a 70HP bike to your 130HP bike (torque numbers are also really good on that Speed Triple, like 85ish pound feet). The MT07 makes a lot of it's 50lb-ft torque down low, so that couples with its 400lb weight and stubby wheel base means it wheelies pretty easily. The Speed Triple weighs way more than an MT07 but still easily picks up that wheel effortlessly, that's the amazing part. I can't imagine how scary it is to have such a heavy bike pick up its front wheel like that.

Funnily enough my cb300r did that for me. Even though it was a rather low power bike, the single cylinder engine gave it a good bit of pickup right off the bottom of the revs. First time out the bike almost got away from me when it wheelied leaving a stop sign. Only thing I didnt practice was balance point. I'd rather do that on a dirt bike off road where the ground is a little softer.
@EllaBananas
@EllaBananas 11 ай бұрын
Though with the cb300r, if you wanted to get the wheel up high, you had to clutch up, and because of the low power it took a good fistfull of throttle, sometimes it felt like I had to be a fuckin safe cracker to get it just right. Main reason I practiced wheelies as much as I did was to get rid of that fear of the front wheel coming up. If I can control it, then I dont need to be afraid of it.
