Well the biggest problem is the down at the crank, where the chain tensioner sits. Just did a full headjob on this engine now. All 12 valves. Both cam were in position but the chain was so slack, the crank couldnt get a grip on the chain down there, so all the intake valves were bent. You might not get any warning signs of this happening. This happend on startup after the car was parked hillside.

Thanks Sandy. Wife's 2011 Polo 1.2 is running badly on idle (engine shakes and sounds like a misfire) but runs fine when driving. I'm not sure what the symptoms are of a jumped timing chain, but I'll certainly check to at least rule it out. Other than the obvious (plugs, connectors etc) I'm at a loss as to what to try next. No fault codes, by the way. Plugs are clean/new.

@@akjn6929 It turned out to be the engine stabiliser bar. The rubber bushes were worn. Chain is fine. Still have an occasional misfire though. The coil packs were changed so it could be a loom fault or maybe dirt in the fuel system. The wife's driving a Honda E nowadays so the Polo isn't used much.

If the timing does jump will it bend the valves? And if so can you do a video how to change them?

Hello, for some reason I can't watch part 4 of your timing chain renewal series, it's telling me in the playlist that the video isn't available. Can you sort this out? I'm really inquisitive about the last part because I'll do this repair on our seat ibiza 1.2 CGPB myself. Thanks for the vids and best regards 👍🏻

Iv done 3 of these this week. That's how bad they are. And one of them was a seat ibiza but with the TFSI engine. That's a little different. And the timing was miles out on that one.

@@sandyande hi sandy, with sump off, 4 hours. To make sure the side cover reseals correctly to the sump. The TFSI is a bit longer cos of the water pump at rear of engine. That runs the supercharger. The water pump has to come off on them to get to 3 bolts for the cover. I charge 340 for the 1.2's . And 415 for the TFSI ones. They both use same timing tool setting kit.

Hi sandy,I have a p0341 code on a 2010 vw polo. It revs up but cuts out on idle occasionally. The fault is camshaft sensor. I have checked that the cams are aligned using the tools and they appear to be. It had a new chain 3-4 years ago. Would it be the chain again?

My Mrs has this engine and it misfires when you first start it after its been left a while , will run like shite for the first 20 secs then be alright! No codes and had a chain 6 months ago (did this before chain too!)

First thing in morning remove spark plugs and check if any cylinders are wet/damp

Borescope or leakdown test but the standard procedure is just to put on new chain and see if you got lucky

First off great video. Subscribed. Anyone know if there's any difference in a cgpa to a cgpb engine. Layout looks the same. Are they interchangeable for a swap?

Hi sandy, the two positions at the top of the engine are the same and I am getting the camshaft sensor error and I have changed the sensor, what do you think could be the issue? Thanks

I have the same situation. Probably the crankshaft position does not match the position of the camshafts. I will replace thhe chain AGAIN. Don't buy the cheapest parts.

Hi Sandy, I have had a look at mine and mine are seems to line up, but do have the code for the camshaft sensor and i does run like the car you have in one of your videos. I am going to try another sensor but is it possible for timing to be out on both cams? Could it jump teeth on both? I have the 16725 Camshaft position Sensor P0341 Implausible Signal like you had and thought it had jumped. I am thinking of getting the locking tools and see if i all shafts line up at TDC?

Get the timing tools from eBay it's the only way to be absolutely sure, cheers sandy

@@sandyande thank you, ordered tools if anyone follows the comments, i have put another sensor my fault existed and i do have voltage to the harness so it must of been jumped!

I have the same. It really looks like both camshafts are misaligned to the crankshaft.
