Not to be harsh BUT that shouldn't happen. Sounds like you are trying to add to much OR you are not allowing yourself to learn from your mistakes and just powering through the painting. Set the old painting up next to the one you are about to paint... this way you can see what you need to improve. Also take you time :)

I am in the same boat trying to get everything ready for spring along with dealing with auto repairs. Most of my painting is now done sitting in my car on my lunch break at work. I found a pochade box at a thrift store for $6. It just needed some cleaning and minor repairs. I downloaded some reference photos to a cheap tablet and keep it in the car with the box. I found out the hard way though, I have to remember to keep the windows down while painting even with odorless mineral spirits. lol

I have an inward drive to paint, from digital to watercolor to oil. Lately it's been wet on wet with a drive to conquer wet on wet. I watched Bill alot when I was a teenager, there is no better teacher than Bill (God rest his soul he passed on in 1995, ), and because of all of the German spoke in my house, his accent is no big deal. I ve found myself making a few mistakes, or missing steps here and there but I know I will conquer these things.....and Fire Innnnn

There is another benefit to taking your time. A lot of times, especially as beginners, we struggle to control the thickness of paint and end up mud mixing. Stepping away for a while to give the paint a bit of drying time helps keep the layers from mixing when you don't want them to. Just because it is a wet on wet tutorial doesn't mean we have to do it that way. A little wet on dry painting is not cheating.

Amazing video, and just the day after I did a Bill Alexander walk along. Though I did get one thing I didn't like about it, which was that sometimes he doesn't tell which colors he's mixing, so you're left guessing a bit. :D

Yeah he does skip over a few things every now and then. I think though if you look at the YT video description. It lists out the colors there.

Hey Wild, Thanks for all your help! Wondering when using a wet to wet process and the paint dries, I want to come back to it, and add or finish the painting, do I apply liquid clear before starting back on that canvas? Thanks for any help you can provide
@WildCreates
@WildCreates Жыл бұрын
You can do it with any liquid base medium ( if it is needed ). Generally I will use a little bit of Liquid White BUT it really depends on the painting and style. I hope that helps.

@@WildCreates Thanks for getting back to me. You are awesome ! I am using the Bob Ross method, and run onto mud mixing. I am thinking of letting the work I have done so far, dry and then do highlights. Would you still recommend Liquid white or liquid clear, or just apply oil onto the painted canvas?
@WildCreates
@WildCreates Жыл бұрын
A common issue for new painters so dont let it get you down. It is completely fine to let the painting dry a little then apply highlights. When it comes to the highlights just use a nice fatty paint that flows and you will be good to go :)

How do you do the wet on wet technique of the base layer is dry? Will it mix okay?
@WildCreates

Just re-wet it OR add a thin wet clear coat on top and continue painting.

Hello Wild Creates, I am a beginner interested in painting . This was the very first time I ran into your channel which is very helpful and expands my horizon. Can I ask you a few questions : 1) Can I use acrylic paints instead of oil paints on canvas. 2) After priming the canvas with gesso , gambling solvent free gel or Liquin, do I leave it completely dry to paint or leave it a very little wet before applying on acrylic paints? 3) Is there a name of canvas I should get? Please also give me description of the canvas in order to get the right canvas from its varieties. Thank you.
@WildCreates
@WildCreates 2 жыл бұрын
1) Yes you can but I recommend open acrylics. I have a few videos on it which you can watch below: - Liquid White: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7WKdKaWldzDdKM.html - 3 recipes: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pK9ld5B5qJ3JZaM.html 2) Use gesso then let it dry. Then apply you liquid base on top of the dried gesso. Then you are ready to start painting right away. 3) I like to use level 3 canvases when I can.
