Then you need to consider your life choices--if you want/need more PTO for leisure, do you decide to have children? Do you decide to be a caregiver for a parent? Or do you hire out those tasks? Do you ask your employer for more PTO and less salary as part of your compensation package? Do you find an employer who has more flexibility to accommodate your need for more PTO? Do you join in on lobbying the government and industries to adjust their work weeks/PTO requirements, etc?

This is rage baiting. It's not 'vacationing' if people are logging in and working. Working does not equal vacationing. If you're remote, then what does it matter if I work in my home office or if I'm at the park or at the beach? This is meant to scare employers to force workers to come back into the office so that commercial real estate doesn't collapse.
@RedShipsofSpainAgain
@RedShipsofSpainAgain 16 күн бұрын
Exactly, this is the real reason. CNBC and the corporate-backed media conglomerates are trying to scare employers into forcing employees to return to office so the stock price of the commercial real estate, which CNBC is has invested in, stops plummeting. Conflict of interest 101. It's a clever manipulation tactic, and we all see right through it. Sorry, commercial real estate: your prices and value have been heavily overinflated for years, and now it's toke for you to feel the burn as commercial real estate prices come back down to earth.

The problem is not workers trying to get a moment of human existence, it's corporations that treat us like robots they can exploit for their profit. Most of us don't get paid enough to afford a trip to work remotely from, but that's not the fault of the lucky workers who can. The system must change. It has become popular in the last few years after COVID started and more people started working remotely. I work remotely in Japan, and in my case, my company doesn't care where I am working from as long as I get my work done. In my opinion, that's how it should be. I work in-person myself, but it's ridiculous to act all high and mighty when most of the companies we work for don't pay us enough to live comfortably. So stop trying to blame workers for trying to find balance in their life when we're being taken advantage of by greedy CEOs. Many of us don't trust the higher ups in our companies. We're treated as expendable. So unless its creating problems on an individual basis, lay off the people have to struggle to get by. (Btw, I'm grateful to have 2 jobs with none of these issues. Unlimited PTO is a deceptive accounting practice used by employers to remove the PTO otherwise owed to employees from the liabilities on their financials to make them look stronger. Instead PTO is only deduced in the event that it is used by an employee AND this also leads employees to feeling pressured into using less PTO than what would initially be offered to them if it were a set amount.

I would work over seas for a month out of the year and I would make meetings at east coast hours from Asia. I think it was a win win for me and the company. Many businesses are now employing call centers or online billing where you cannot even talk to a person on location, especially billing/accounting. Only exception are businesses that actually deal with the public in person. Some people actually complained as I got off duty a couple of times at two in the afternoon, as for that period of time I couldn't perform some of my duties in M.I.S. during regular office hours. So I got up really early in the morning long before anyone else was there, except security. Come on, as an exempt employee, I often try to take work with me when out of town, but I cannot ever be as productive while not in the office. Also, “being on the clock” is being available at all times during the companies work day.

I encourage my employees to take vacation and I never work on weekends, so there's no reason for my employees to either. Companies don't deserve your weekend time or vacation time. And we deserve to live full lives.

When required to be in the office, how can you quiet vacation? You either need to take sick days, or some companies have remote weeks as a benefit. Most white collar jobs have vacation accrual. I turned down one job that had overtime, but the slowest accrual rate of vacation. Instead I took the same pay with no OT, but unlimited vacation, and took the same among vacation I did from a previous job that I had several years at-6 weeks over a year.

The people I know who “quiet vacation” do it to maximize their vacation time. Only have a few weeks vacation a year? Save them for the big trip that doesn’t have reliable internet, but take as many mini vacations as you can while working remotely. I’m just jealous that I haven’t had the guts to try it yet.

A friend of my little sister, who is a gen Z was with us in a all included hotel in DR while all of us were enjoying the facilities, he was from 9 to 6 in the hotel room working full time. I think this is silly, it is much better to take some time off and really enjoy, especially when you are paying a lot for your stay

This is all untrue. Most of us today are in strategic positions; allowing us to add counsel from anywhere in the world while doing anything. With most white collar jobs being mostly remote and many people often having access to properties around the country (sometimes internationally which brings a whole host of taxation issues and licensing), there really is no need to let anyone know anything. My job is to advise, to counsel, to provide insights and inputs into more efficient ways of doing things. Whether that's from France, Moab, Tuscany or my mountain cabin, no one really cares and neither should they.

There are many ways to take a cheap staycation. In CA, we can check out a free CA state park pass for a week and it's for a vehicle, you can load up to 4/5 people. Pack a few tuna cans, hotdogs in the cooler, and enjoy the state park. For state beach camping was $29.99/ night but reservation are fully booked for 6 months, so planning is required. A 2 person tent is approx $65. I was camping for 3 nights by the beach for that price . So check out your local state park pass to see something similar are available.
