Hello gentlepeople,
Been sick for two weeks and I keep coughing so this one won't have me talk over. This one's a bit of Doug, a bit of Refsal, a bit of me. All flat-plane of course.
Piece is ~1 1/4 x 1 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches or 3 x 3 x 8cm.
Wood is Lind (lime/basswood)
Knife is Sergey Belov 40mm
I hope you enjoy and have a great day!

I do 90% of the time. As I wrote in the description for this one, I've been sick for two weeks and coughing so much that not talking was preferable at the time. Glad you liked it.

Nice carving, Jeff, and will give it a try in a week or so. Currently doing Doug's bears. :) Thanks for doing this and hope you have a fast recovery. BTW, I tried to post a link to the viking long houses but it was removed from the comments and figure I can't do that. Thanks again and you are a great resource for my carving.

@@QSOutdoors yes absolutely! Thanks for telling me. I'm driving my dad up there this summer. He is from around that area. Thought it might be fun for him to see. I'm thinking of learning to do this, but turn the figures into stopmotion puppets. It might be easier for me to do this in blender 3D software and animate the figures. But I am growing a bit tired of computers 😅

@@QSOutdoors No, I live in Denmark know, but my family lives in Sweden. I just bought a beginner set on Amazon. I know... I tried buying some wear else. But... It was more affordable there. But if I get bitten, then I will by quality stuff.

Hello Peter. I am indeed really well! I haven't caved much in the last 2 months or so. Was focusing on work and preparing for the gardening season. Creating youtube videos, especially tutorials take quite the mental space that I don't have at the moment. Thank you for checking out. It means a lot.

What designates a carving as “flat plane”?
@QSOutdoors
@QSOutdoors Жыл бұрын
That's a good question. If we look at the origins of Scandinavian flat-plane carvings from like Axel Petersson, it's really about the roughness of the cuts and the simplicity of the carvings. No fluff, every cut is there for a reason. I feel that when Harley Refsal revived the style and put his own twist to it, it became the art of one tool where everything is still "raw". I think that flat-plane defines itself in its cuts where we can clearly see edges and per it's name, the flat-planes, of the surfaces.
