I would think that the method would work for any size sashing. I would however recommend that you add decorative quilting stitches if you go above 2 1/2 or three inches.

Oh ye of little faith! Give it a try and I think that you too will become a believer in the glue. The glue makes your quilt assembly much more stable and controllable as you feed it through your machine machine. The extra stability translates into straighter seams and better quilts.
