Just so you know - you can always find all of our videos at our website. Our newest joining video shows how we join quilt blocks using continuous batting and batting strips which eliminates the need to close the backing between blocks. You can watch it at: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbx1jMh0x5muY4k.html Part 3 can be seen at: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gNGIY6Slyq6XgJs.html&spfreload=10 Part 4 can be seen at: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ic6gprV22eDconk.html

How did you keep your back side from showing the the threads where they started and ended ?
@QueenofStitching
@QueenofStitching 8 жыл бұрын
As a rule we hold on to our ends when we begin a seam to prevent nesting. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of just trimming your ends - try threading them through the eye of a needle. Then insert the needle tip into the quilt for an inch and bring the needle tip out again. Pull the threads so that they are taught and then trim the ends. once the threads are relaxed again, the ends will be inside of the quilt sandwich.

What is a stainless steel flow restrictor?
@QueenofStitching
@QueenofStitching 8 жыл бұрын
A stainless steel flow restictor is a conical shaped device that is placed upon the tip of your glue bottle. The flow restrictor has a much smaller opening than the actual glue tip meaning that it allows for a much tinier bead of glue. Stainless Steel Tips are available on our website.

I hope this question makes sense. After you stitch in the ditch, there is a stitching line going from top to bottom on the block. How do you sew the rows together since you can't separate the layers as you did when you were making the blocks? The top, batting and bottom layers are now all sewn together at each end and can't be separated. Please help :)
@QueenofStitching
@QueenofStitching 8 жыл бұрын
When joining the blocks together - we only stitch the exact length of the finished block and do not stitch into the seam allowance at the beginning and end of the the stitching lines. This leaves the seam allowances open to be used for joining the rows. Our newest method of joining blocks uses continuous strips of batting and backing which eliminates the need to close the backing between blocks. You can watch the video at: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbx1jMh0x5muY4k.html

This is for any one who is thinking about dealing with queen of stitching. I have never been given better customer service from any other web sight that deserves an A+ like this one. I was having trouble getting a pattern to work through my PayPal account and not only did I get to talk to some one who called me on the phone and fix it but it was the owner and sje was working after 6 pm. They have my business for life. I have been making family traditioms for 18 years and will be able to hug my childern and grandchildren years after I am gone. Now it will ne through this wonderful lady's designs. So fill up a coffee cup in the morning and check out this site. You're crazy if you don't.

HI. This looks great but I'm having a hard time telling exactly how you placed the tape. Do you mean the edge of the tape is 3/8 in inside the edge of the rule or does it stick out 3/8 in past the edge of the ruler on the cutting side? Sorry. 3/8 in in from the edge makes the most sense to me but since the tape's clear I can't see it against the ruler.

Gwen Harlow - Queen of Stitching develops and distributes quilt blocks made for computerized embroidery machines. "Made in the Hoop" is the reference to the the computerized functions built into these machines. We piece, quilt and join our blocks together inside these hoops with spectacular precision and results. The joining techniques that we have introduced will work for blocks made traditionally as well as blocks made "In the Hoop".Don't miss our newest technique shown in our latest video - "Joining Quilt Blocks With Continuous Batting and Backing Strips". This technique is an incredible time saver and can be used for both traditional blocks and blocks made in the hoop.You can view the video at:kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbx1jMh0x5muY4mi.htmlr on our website at:queenofstitching.com/quilt-in-the-hoop-videos/169-jaygo2

The blocks are joined by stitching in the ditch from the right side of the quilt. If you advance the video to 6:05 you will find the beginning of the explanation. Also - check out our newest video "Joining Quilt Blocks With Continuous Backing and Batting Strips. The new process eliminates the need to join the backing between quilt blocks. Rows are still joined using the joining method shown in this video. You can find the new video at: Joining Quilt Blocks with Continuous Backing and Batting Strips

While developing Bursting Bubbles, (the newest release to include this technique) we found that great results can be achieved by applying spray starch and pressing the fabric before it is adhered to the freezer paper. Two benefits of starching earlier than shown in the video are - fewer steps and no waiting for the piece to dry before returning to the machine.

When you quilt your borders ahead of time they become a closed unit and need to be treated exactly like our quilt blocks that have been pieced and quilted in the hoop … only longer. Follow the method we use for joining un-sashed blocks. Watch the video and if you have any questions send an email to support@ our website - make sure you include your phone number and we will happily talk you through it.

I would think that the method would work for any size sashing. I would however recommend that you add decorative quilting stitches if you go above 2 1/2 or three inches.

Thank you so much for this four part series. I had this beautiful material given to me and wanted to use it all up in quilts. I enjoy hand quilting while lisenting to the radio or wathcing TV. I do it free hand with no paterns. I like my quilts to tell a story. I have many quilted blocks finished and wanted to learn how I can put them all together easily. You showed me how. Thank you.

Oh ye of little faith! Give it a try and I think that you too will become a believer in the glue. The glue makes your quilt assembly much more stable and controllable as you feed it through your machine machine. The extra stability translates into straighter seams and better quilts. We have a FAQ on our website where you can read about our journey. (Sorry no links are allowed here or I would have provided the page for you.)

A safe rule of thumb for batting sizes is 1 inch larger than the finished block size. We trim our batting all the way back to the last stitch guide in Queen of Stitching Designs to keep the batting out of the seam allowance. When not using our designs - trim your batting back to the seam used to join your blocks. We generally cut the fabric for our backing 1 1/2 inches larger than the finished block size. That gives us plenty of extra fabric for easy centering and trimming.

How much wider do you cut the batting and the backing compared to the top? I'm going to be starting a log cabin quilt using this method tomorrow and I'm not sure how much more to cut these two items. Thanks!
