Here’s another version of the Quilt-As-You-Go technique, this time it’s a log cabin quilt block.
If you missed the previous video, it showed the very basic strip pieced QAYG technique. Check it out here: • How to Quilt As You Go...

I have been excited by your Quilt as you go videos. I have a ton of 10x10 batting squares I would like to use. How would I attach a backing to these batting 10x10 squares? All the Best Richard
@TulipSquare
@TulipSquare Жыл бұрын
You put the backing down first, then the batting, and it all gets attached together as you add the pieces, as shown in the video. 🌷

Thank you for the very followable (i just made up that word 😁) instructions. I want to make curvy blocks, but now i get how to start. I can lay out the 1st complete block and then measure for placements of the starting square. Yay!!!!

This looks like something I'd lie to attempt. Now just to figure out block and strip sizes. Hoping I can do this it seems to be a simpler way to actually for me possibly finish a quilt. Or at least a pot holder. Smaller to start is good for me. Thank you for making it look simple quilting seems so difficult. I used to help the ladies at the church when I was little but that was long ago. Thinking it's time to start again.

Potholders is a great project to start with! When I started, I definitely did the small things first. Potholders, then placemats & table runners, before I was ready to tackle a whole quilt. Much easier to progress that way! 🌷

If it's not exactly in the center, it could be a practice block!!! Just kidding. Great video!!!

Haha thanks! 🌷 That's definitely why we recommend leaving a little extra space around the edges for trimming. Although...anything can be a practice block if you mess it up enough! 😄

Great tutorial! Love this method. How do you join the blocks together??
@TulipSquare
@TulipSquare Жыл бұрын
Thank you! There's a few different ways to join them, I believe the most common is with sashing strips. We'll have to make another video for that! 🌷

Is this the same technique as for foundation paper piecing, except you don't remove the under layers?

I'm sorry, I don't remember the measurements, this was before we decided to start providing a cutting guide. This video is just to demonstrate the technique, and this method will work with any log cabin pattern, in any size! Happy sewing! 🌷

What do you do with all the ends of the threads on the back side that will come undone when you wash your hot pad? I would think it would be better to make the log cabin block then stitch it to the heat reflective padding and backing in one continuous stitch starting in on the center square and following the strips as you had added them, finishing at the outside edge, then self bind with the backing or adding a traditional binding.

You left out the most important part, how to join the blocks without sashing
@TulipSquare
@TulipSquare 10 ай бұрын
Because of the thickness, we always recommend using sashing when joining this type of block. We do have a video showing that here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtqAesmD163cZJs.html
